Preventing Drops In Stars and Ratings---Rate...Rate...Rate!

Hi and welcome to Mylot rashvinder. We seem to be having some wonderful new members arriving at Mylot...and the quality of your response shows you are one of them. I love to read thoughtful additions anywhere. That is why I keep coming back...bright, articulate, caring people sharing their ideas from the 4 corners of the planet...what a joy it is to be here.

Your experiences and observations about the possibilities for members to cheat is a really excellent perspective. You are obviously and ethical person and I respect you for saying no to the member who wanted to cheat.

This was the point I am trying to make with this discussion. If each member rated everyone on their site as soon as discussions start...then there are no openings for 'funny stuff' to take place. That is my approach. Every time I notice a new response I rate and comment immediately. Taking care of my friends on my site is on top of my 'absolute yes' list here.

I also do the same thing with allocating best responses rather than leaving unresolved discussions for too long. My approach is to wait at least a week...sometimes longer but always try to keep my BR and ratings current.

I am always dismayed when I see the number of unrated discussions on so many sites. Hopefully discussions like these will give old and new members a nudge to keep the pluses coming for all the great comments members continue to add!

Oh Ivor what the heck is going on here? I am really worry to hear this happened to you too. Your are the 4th friend in a short time. Do you have any idea why or what happened to illicit the deletions? The thing that bothers me about events like this is no one knows what to do about it. Perhaps we need to contact Mylot with some kind of a petition.

Why on earth would a discussion of yours be deleted? You are always supportive, kind, encouraging and caring towards all members and always support your friends. This is getting too weird to me. I hope we can find some answers and a different way of doing things.

I would be feeling as you do...but all I can say my friend...is that you are a Blue 10 from my perspective.
Hopefully forums like these will give Mylot the high 5 that the rating and earnings system may need to be looked at. Otherwise they are at risk of losing some valuable members.

No I have no idea and I lost 1/2 my pictures like you did.

Have you sent an e-mail to Mylot...surely there needs to be some explanation to members about what is going on here.

Again I am sorry it occurred...hope we can work together to avoid leaving the ratings open to those who would abuse it.

I got an answer today after 3 weeks and they said they would look into it.

Oh Goodie...I sincerely hope they will upgrade it to where it should be..a 100% Blue!

Just curious though...posted a couple of responses and rate your Bunny picture with a plus..and commented on it. I noticed none of your comments were rated...so I clicked pluses all the way. Maybe not rating comments has something to do with the down slide in some members stars. As you know from this post I rate religiously...before I add any comments. As I've said it helps me track new comment...just like I did with this one..and it got another plus as well.

Your approach is no surprise to me Mooch. From everything I have read from your many topics and responses you appear to live by right principles and walk your talk. I have no opinion about whether the star affects ratings although if you check sunshine's post she pulled facts from Mylot and posted it on her site where it says they do use it as a means of awarding members with higher stars...with more income.

I don't now sometimes the lack on congruity within the information being imparted makes my head hurt. I wish Mylot had a central bulletin board where they could address member's concerns on a specific problem..in a specific way that everyone could have access to and refer back to. With something like that facts would be clear, concise and 'coming directly from the horse's mouth' rather than within a rather nebulous system of rating defaults that do not make sense. Not only that no one seems to have any recourse...problems continue...members frick and frack...and so it is.

Anyhow I am very happy with the responses here, There are so many members that really do want to make this site a win-win for all that the few who do not have no real power.

Like you most of us will keep the pluses outweighing the negs and just keep on clicking and enjoying ourselves while we do it!

Hello again my friend. Your approach to rating mirrors mine. It is the CONTENT...and INTENT to discussions and responses that matters to me. In the self esteem department I agree completely. As group leaders, public speakers and group leaders we do our best to emphasize people's potential rather than under minding their worth through negative feedback.

Same thing here. It is not the spelling, formation of sentences or anything else that matters to me. I live with the idea that WHY anyone does anything is far more important than HOW they do it. Most Mylotters truly care about each other...and they sure get my plus vote...every time.

Thanks...glad you like it. It would be really great not to hear that so many valued members are being unfairly treated by a rating system that seems odd. The Spy just got added to the listed on degraded ratings too.

Maybe I will be next for posting this...but as many of you have said..it is the feedback from members that really counts!

I went from a 10 star to a 9 star overnight. My 10 star was at 98/100 and the 9 star has been going back and forth between a 88/100 and a 89/100. I don't know why.

Sorry to hear that and thanks for letting me know...Pendragon says his star been doing down consistently and is so discouraged he is about to pack it in. It went from a blue to a brown with no understanding either. I wonder what the heck is going on here? Any suggestions? I am wondering if we have to set up a 'please listen to us post' on some site and allow everyone to express their concerns about what has been happening and gently ask them to assist us in understanding...and maybe provide some answers. Just a thought.

I think alot more importance is being attached to that little star than need be. I liked having a nice little blue 10 star and it ticks me off that it is now a glaring red 9 especially when I don't see that I did anything to deserve but in reality it doesn't change anything. You still get paid the same, you still answer discussions and you still have all the site options that everyone else does. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have my cute little blue 10 back but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I have learned to start rating ppl that respond to my discussions so perhaps other ppl will start doing the same if they don't already. I certainly wouldn't leave MyLot over the color of my star. Besides it's bound to go back up sooner or later.

I think your approach is very sensible. I can not say for sure that I'd feel the same way...but you have set a great example for anyone that is has or does happen to. I agree with you that the dynamics of Mylotting doesn't change because of the star color. The reasons behind the problems and the lack of response from Mylot about explaining it or correcting it is, in my view the larger concern.
In the meantime I do hope all members will be more diligent about keeping the ratings current.

Ahhh...how nice to hear..thank you for letting me know that. I also appreciate the plus from you too! I am truly pleased to know that this topic assisted you. Are you aware of the best response post as well? It is the blue sidebar beside members names. When I first became a member I had no idea how that worked either.

Just in case you are not familiar with it...it works this way. After a topic has been up for a few day...I usually leave mine a week...but that is up to you. The person posting the discussion reads over all the responses and clicks on the blue 'mark best response' next to the member who rates the best response. That goes into the mix and the star rating as well. Then members check where it says my best responses to see if there are any. I always go back to the site and thank the person for the BR too!

So hope that helps..all these things are ways we can let each other know that we value our connections. Works for me!

It doesn't surprise me that you rate the way you do...you always seem so honoring of others anyway. I am glad that you think it is a good idea...and I also hope that others will take up the cause and do it consistently over time. It only takes a minute..and even if they ratings are overlooked on another person's site I always pick up the slack and rate their respondents for them. So yes, lets keep the rate, rate, rate idea going and squeeze out those who do not want to play fairly.

Good to know you are such a diligent rater...some newer members are not. It is good to know that there are so many of us here who are ready to sound the battle call and keep rating our good members with pluses.

I have even gone so far to rate comments on other members sites when they do not. So we if we all get involved and cover each other's backs it might be a way for others to regain their higher star ratings..lets hope so.

If we keep on keeping on with our determination to rate...even on members sites who do not do it themselves we might be able to change things for the better. I was checking around this evening...there are still so many with unrated discussions..both current and older ones.

I don't know we might have an uphill battle here!

Sorry to hear of yet another disappointment. Hopefully you will regain your standing by doing things the way you describe. Now more Mylotters are aware of a possible solution..maybe we can assist each other and prevent others from being down-graded without any understanding of why..or by whom.

You are welcome...I am glad it has been useful for you. I know when I started learning how to navigate in Mylot land can be a little confusing. You are right about rating the discussion because the person who posted it cannot rate their own of course. Anyone can rate any comment on any site...and if they do not that is where the trouble can start. Whenever I am on someone else's site and they have not rated their responses..I will; for the reasons we already know.

Yes, the author of the discussion clicks on the blue phrase beside each members name to award their best response to them.

The star comes up automatically once you have made 100 posts. The color of the star designates the rating. Blue is 100-90...Red is the next one..and they go down according. There is yellow, pink, purple, green, white..if you right click over the star it will give you the actual rating of each member.

Some members say Mylot has a place on the faq's that say the ratings are used to determine ratings. Other members have said that is not the case. So for that one I am unsure. However, Sunshinecup posted on her site where Mylot had make that statement..so if the stars do affect earnings it is not fair to have a member lose points because someone has a petty agenda. So that is why we all need to commit to rate...rate..rate...and make it positive whenever possible.
