Benefits of Reaching Adulthood?

This is a question I have been pondering today: What was the benefit I looked forward to the most upon reaching adulthood? The privilege of staying up as late as I chose to was my hands-down winner. I have always had the feeling that I am a night person. I usually have no problem staying up all night. Due to my love of reading I used to sneak the flashlight into bed so I could enjoy my books when I was supposed to be sleeping. Even now, I will sometimes stay up all night if I am reading a book that I can't bear to put down. I also have always felt that I am much more productive during the night. I don't do it as much as I once did, but I actually enjoy cleaning house in the middle of the night. What benefit did you most look forward to upon reaching adulthood?

As strange as this may sound, I was looking forward to adulthood so I could work and start bringing in some money of my own, so I could help out family members when they were needing it.
When I was in my teen years, I wasn't allowed to work, since my Mom didn't want it to interfere with my schooling. But I was getting tired of seeing people in my family struggle to make ends meet, and just couldn't wait till I graduated school, so I could work and help them out the best I could.

I believe I am more sympathetic towards it, because I watched my Mom struggle to raise two kids on her own for three years, before she met my step-father, and I have been there a time or two myself and with my giving as soon as I got a job, it helped in the long run when I was in need myself. Good deeds don't go unnoticed for long. :)

You must be a family treasure, jeweled! Not everyone feels that way toward family members who are less fortunate. You have a kind and big heart.(:

Wow! It's not everyone who can say they had no special goal upon attaining adulthood, maddysmommy. My friends and I used to always sit around and say we couldn't wait to become adults for some reason or other.(:

I don't think I really looked forward to anything in particular. I was looking forward to going to university, but other than that, I was pretty content to be a kid. I wasn't really allowed to stay up really late, but I never really thought about it, because my parents didn't stay up late either. I just sort of assumed that the entire world went to bed sometime before midnight.

Well, cutepenguin, in my house everything went off following the 10:00 news, and that just didn't give me enough time to do all the things I wanted to do. Sometimes I think I am still trying to make up for that.(:

Adulthood in India means the starting of responsibilities. One has to pursue his higher education and find a suitble work.It is the duty of the parents to find a good spouse for their son or daughter.Having a girlfriend or boyfriend as in US or europe is often looked down upon.It is the time the adolescent person should be equipped with skills to look after a family

That doesn't sound like a lot of fun, cosmopolitan. It's great to have the right work ethic and learn responsibility, but youth is also a time when you should be enjoying yourself.(:

Hi worldwise,
cannot say how much I could relate to that! I am a night creature as well and just love to stay awake, doing stuffs normal and not so normal and just be myself. I enjoy being in my space completely and would not want any encroachment at all. On Saturdays I would hardly sleep. I would clean the house, as you have said, I would do chores and watch television and most importantly read books.
Another important priviledge that I enjoy being on reaching adulthood is no one questions what I do betwen 8 amto 8 Pm. LOL..

Yes, mimoi, the freedom is amazing! There's a lot to be said for not having to answer to anyone but yourself.(:

Since I've been an adult for such a looooong time I think the best part is the freedom to do anything I want to with no kids to worry about.

I will second that, ctry! I got married at a very young age, and it seemed that I really had no life until all of the kids grew up and moved out.(:

Whats adulthood? Just curious as your define of adult? 16?18?21? I stopped having a bedtime when I was like in high school at like 15! My parents stopped caring after a certain age about when I went to bed.I mean I only over did it during high school for tests and projects. Not till college did I do it for work and others. So I dont drink, smoke and I'm not married yet at 27. SO I dont know what you want to do as an adult. Well here are two things I loved about being 18:
1. You can VOTE
2. You can play the lottery
YES I have done those two things for sure just not the others :))
ENJOY being an adult, for whatever reason you look forward to.

Wise1,I think adulthood may be a relative term lol. However for me it had to be the opportunity to go out to the bars and chase cute girls or drink and shoot billiards with the guy's.I guess you might say that it is a kind of right of passage for guy's.

Well now that Im an adult I wish I was a child but the one thing I do enjoy about being an adult is the freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want without having to answer to anybody. I also like the whole fact that once you hit a certain age like 18 here in Canada you can do everything because there`s no age limit holding you back. As for staying up all night and being more productive I know exactly what you mean. I feel when I stay up most the night I get more done because there is nothing distracting me from what Im doing like tv or the kids. Its weird because a lot of people I know are like this. Anyways great post thanks.

I agree, kodie, that there are far fewer distractions late at night. I can get most everything I want done in 2 or 3 hours at night without constantly being interrupted by the telephone, etc.
