Do you have good posture?

I have always been lazy when it comes to keeping my back straight but every now and then I remind myself to do it. I have started to practise Aikido- a Japanese martial art. It is very important to have good posture and a straight back so I'm slowly learning to remember to keep a straight back. Someone in the class said 'imagine Sensei has his knee in the middle of your back, forcing you to sit straight'. that seems to work for me! So how about you? Do you have good or bad posture? Has having bad posture done any damage to your back?

I think I am okay with my posture. Many years ago I discovered that I have a slight curvature of my spine, which causes me to be round shouldered. I make a point often of straightening my shoulders.
Also, when I am on the computer, I sit with my back straight. It makesa a big difference. Despite the number of hoiyrs I spend on the computer, I never get an aching neck.

That's amzing Jenny, my neck starts to ache after about 45 minutes. My aunty went to see a massage therapist/chiropractor guy and he said that when we sit at a computer, we stick our necks out automatically, and come to think of it it's true! He said to sit up straight and try to remember to keep your neck and jaw in. It works for me. He also said that if your neck hurts from looking at the screen, pull your jaw right in and kind of down, and gently press under the bones at the back of your skull down the bottom.

I've always had a very good posture. I may be harming it recently because I've started needing glasses to see the coumputer screen clearly but the ones I have require me to be too close and thus I lean in too much. If I sit farther back I can get by without the glassed but then typing is uncomfortable.

I try very hard to keep good posture, but I have damage in my spine so good posture hurts! I try to imagine a steel rod down my spine, which isn't too far from the truth!LOL! I stay this way especially on the computer, and when I rest, I lay down instead of sitting. Chairs and car seats are not easy for me.

Used to have proper posture but the more I sit for longer hours working on my computer the more slouching is becoming a bad habit. Good for you that you're now doing Aikido. Lately, I'm trying a belly dancing routine exercise. I've been having mild neck and back aches and the routine helps.

I have very bad posture, but I'm trying to be more aware of it. I realized that slouching and such makes me look like I have more of a belly than I do if I'm standing or sitting up straight. Still, it's difficult to correct long years of bad posture. I used to study belly dancing, and posture was important there too, so I just try to get back into my belly dancing posture, and it helps a lot.
