What kind of notebook paper do you use? Does it matter to you? |
| |
| Now, if you are really reading this, you are probably wondering what kind of question is that! ha ha Well, forgive me if I vent just a bit here. But I would think that notebook paper is notebook paper. And while just like a pen, so may have a preference of spiral, loose leaf, or even college ruled...I would still think that it is paper. I had no clue that notebook paper came in different thicknesses, brightness, or even sizes!!! Wow! And I thought buying copier paper sounded like an Algebra problem! Now I have to worry about my kids' notebook paper too??? Bad thing is...we don't get all the specifics on the packages. My kids' French teacher does not allow college ruled....ok...I can handle that. Yet she also does not allow the spiral notebooks because she can't stand the fringed edges. OK...fine. WalMart has a sell on the kind that has the perforations. But wait!!!! That paper she calls "smart edges" and she does not allow those because it makes the paper a few cm smaller then the loose leaf paper! Oh! And she does not allow "cheap paper"...the kind that is so thin that supposedly it looks dingy or tears easily. Umm...sorry..my kids need notebook paper and I go and buy whatever is cheaper at WalMart and tell my younger children to stop using it as drawing paper. ha ha However, this French teacher has told my children that if they use any other paper it will be thrown in the trash and they will either re-do it or they will get a zero. I think that is a bit extreme!!! Come on! It's paper!!! And since the French teacher is not paying for the paper...I can't see how she can get THAT picky!!! So... what notebook paper do you use? And do you really care? If you do care...do you think this French teacher has gone a bit far? | | | | | |

| | Wow, yeah...I think she's being a little extreme. I am with you, notebook paper is notebook paper and I go to Walmart and buy whatever is on sale there. I don't think it makes a difference as long as they have paper. Sounds to me like the French teacher is just trying to be a butt and is way to picky. | | | | | | |

| | When we were in school, we did not had different types as the present children have in choosing notebooks. We had only ruled and unruled. The present day children have so many like: 1. Single rules 2. double ruled 3. handwriting text note book 4. four ruled 5. ablong ruled 6. ablong white 7. long note books 8. long note books without rule 8. Drawing book Once the quantity purchased at the beginning of school academic year, will not last till next year. Those books are fully written, so buy new ones as and when they children ask. Any how it looks like substantial part of our income will go for financing the education of our children. My father educated 9 children I do not remember he was bothered or disturbed about financing the education of his children. I have one, there is expenditure everyday!! | | | | | | |

| | I'm with you! We may be showing our age here. But when I was a kid, my did didn't have to worry about a school supply list every year. He gave me 25 cents for a pack of notebook paper and every now and then I would spend a dime on a special cool pencil. Other than that...the school supplied everything else. Now...we have to save up over the summer to buy all the school supplies and that doesn't even last all year! LOL | | | |

| | Hello brokentia I prefer a 22 pound, white paper, colleged ruled, legal sized on a legal pad. Nothing else will work for me. If anyone else gives me something that is on any other sort of paper, such as a post it note, I banish them to the outer regions of the universe! If I even see paper with those fringes on the end, I go into shock. After I recover, I go on a rampage and get rid of the offensive paper, as well as the person who offended me with it. When I tear the paper off the top of my legal pad, I use a paper cutter to make sure the edges are perfectly even. They must be perfectly even, or that sheet must be disgarded for a new one. Did I mention that gloves must be worn when handling the paper? I do not like any oils from my skin or other's skin to be left as residu on the paper. If someone touches my paper without wearing gloves, this is very upsetting to me, and the paper must be discarded. After each page is properly prepared and handled, I place each page in its own plastic page protector. It is vital, VITAL, that there are no fingerprints or marks on these plastic page protectors. I have found that it's best to wear felt cloth gloves for handling the plastic page protectors. The only problem with these is that they tend to cause static electricity and cause dust to cling to the page protectors. Therefore, after inserting the paper into the page protectors, I remove the felt gloves and handle the page protector with tongs. I pass the page protected page over a blast of cool air. This removes the dust by blowing it away. However, one must be careful that the air is not too cool, as this can sometimes cause moisture problems due to condensation, which also results in smears. When that happens, the process must be repeated. Likewise, if the blast of air is too warm, there are problems. Of course, one must also beware that the blast of air is not to powerful, causing the page protected page to dislodge from the grip of the tongs. If this should happen, the process must be repeated. I have found that an air blast with a temperature of 72 degrees works best (of course adjusting for ambient temperature as needed) with an air speed velocity of 13.7 miles per hour. After this, I place the page protected page into a 3 ring binder of my own design. For propriatery reasons, I am not going to give you the details on that. I suggest your child starts using this process and that you give this to your child's French teacher so that said teacher can comply. | | | | | | |

| | The first time she threw my kids paper in the trash because she did not like the quality of paper, I would be to the school board. Maybe you should copy some of their papers so that you have proof they were done. Alot of teachers don't like the spiral notebooks, but have never heard of not letting them use the others. Some do prefer college or wide rules. That is a bit picky. | | | | | | |

| | I totally get them not liking the college ruled or the spiral notebooks. Even though spiral notebooks help to keep notes together or paper neat...I believe that is why they made the "smart edges" for the spiral notebook paper. As long as they do have a clean edge, I don't think it should matter if it came from a spiral or a loose leaf packet. If that were all it was though too...I wouldn't have such a beef. But all the other specifics...that is just pushing it! | | | |

| | hmmm. for me is doesn't really matter what kind of paper it is. as long as i could read my writing there. then i would have no problem and as long as i can write well there without any problem. some paper that are glossy is not really to write something down there since the paper is too slippery for the ink to stick to that paper. and the letter usually fade easily. so i just use ordinary paper. i don't like buying too much expensive paper for just some ordinary puposes and i really don't think we have to buy those expensive paper. as long as we can write something down i guess that will be fine and alright. but i rarely use any paper now and notebook at all. but i have one notebook to take notes of al the good sites i will want to visit and so that i will earn from there. but it's not really easy to remember them so i have write it down. when i have heard some good comments about some site. and i will try to look up at that site when i have the chance to use the computer. but not i have been a member of google adsense but i am not really earning there. and i have only zero click and it's really unbelieveable that i hve no clicks whatever. hope that i will be able to have some clicks soon. and so that i will earn. for the students/ i will not advice them to use too expensive notebooks. just regular notebook will just be fine.a nd i think we only use those expensive papers for business puporpses or if when you are applying for ajob. or if you will need to submit some reoprts. and that will just the time to use those. and those times are not that often. and since it's expensive i need to save some money fro more important things. | | | | | | |

Unless she is going to buy the paper I suggest she get over herself I can see her beef with the spiral notebook paper it does look like poo poo with its chewed up edges I can even see the issue with college ruled because the lines are so small it makes it very dificult test written on it But the rest of the stuff? C'Mon!! Seriously!! The first time she threw my kids' homework in the trash I would be snatchin her happy butt bald! I swear where does the school system find these fruitcakes? | | | | | | |

| | Wow! Being right handed, I never thought of that with the spiral getting in the way. Thanks for pointing that out as one of my children is left handed. :) I wonder why they do not make left handed spiral notebooks...they now make so many other things for lefty. Of course...I never understood left handed scissors...aren't they the same either hand you place them in? ha ha | | | |

| | Hmm strange if there are no special reasons for her requests other than just a taste for special paper. But I remember a French teacher my daughter has in grade 9. She was kind of visually impaired and from the start of school she asked for special pens and special paper. She explained that she put all kids work trough some sort of magnifying thingy and those were the ones that worked in a way that she could read their work easily. We didn't have a problem complying because there really wasn't a difference in prices, just materials at an average price. Now how the paper tears and fringed hedges.. that seems a bit strange. | | | | | | |

| | You bring up a vaild point! :) If it were due to her needing to scan it like your child's teacher...then I certainly would not have a problem with it. But no...it is just her personal preference. :( | | | |

| | Yes that is very strange. Special since she claims that work on paper that is not to her taste will end in the trash. Did you discuss that with the school? I think I would do it just as a matter of principle. | | | |

| | See, I'm exactly the type of parent that would go straight to the teacher and make a stink about it and ask her why she is so picky and if it's that important she can purchase whatever paper she wants my kid to use. I won't be held hostage to any teacher, and I have no problems telling them so. They think they can get away with that crap because they don't have to deal with the parents and 99% of parents will just go along with it because they don't want to make things more difficult. I don't have a problem with making things difficult. | | | | | | |

| | You make a very valid point. Personally, I do not want to make things harder for my daughter with that teacher by raising a stink with her. She already has a grudge against my daughter because my daughter was bold enough to point out that she was showing favoritism to a couple other kids. My daughter even noted that she was marked off for translating the word into the English word "many" but her teacher marked her off noting "a lot"...but my son in her other class was not marked off for the same thing. So...I fear the teacher would have a more nasty demeanor if I say anything. And I certainly do not trust the principal to not say my name if talking with her about a complaint. Grrrr | | | |

| | I personally dont like college ruled, because I tend to write big. However, it doesnt really matter, I will use whatever I have. Thats insane how picky that teacher is. I would send my child with whatever papers I chose to buy and if she tried not accepting his work due to the type of paper used, Id go to the principal and have a talk. | | | | | | |

| | I am getting to that point because last night my daughter had to re-write an assignment last night because she wrote it on college ruled by accident. But I really can't say anything about that either because it is acceptable for teachers to request a certain ruled paper. So, I will just make sure that I buy loose leaf also I guess. | | | |
