Coffee Beans |
| |
| I bought the wrong type of coffee yesterday. All I saw on the shelf was a deal to buy 2 pkts of "eight o'clock" coffee for $6 so I jumped at the chance. I didn't even read the packaging properly and just chose what I normally buy - the coffee in the gold packet. I didn't even check to see if it was ground coffee or whole beans. It ended up being whole coffee beans and I don't have anything to grind the coffee beans with. So what did I do? I put some coffee beans in a clear lunch glad ziploc bag and started pounding the bag with a hammer LOL It didn't quite work the first time because I didn't beat them down enough so I've just done another lot and am waiting for it to finish brewing. I hope it works this time. If this doesn't work, do you have any other ways I could grind the beans without using a proper ginding machine/equipment or whatever they call it? I need my coffee fix before I go to bed!!! | | | | | |

| | I don't know sorry, and if you didn't grind them down good enough with the hammer then, it might be really strong, or very weak, i'm not sure which but i know it won't come out right. sorry that i could help further. maybe if you have a blinder or food processor? that might work, anything with sharp blades. | | | | | | |

| | The store that you bought the coffee beans from probably has a coffee grinder in the store. I know that even most walmarts have a machine in the coffee isle. Why don't you call the store and if they don't have one, call some other grocers in your area and ask if you could bring the beans in to get them ground up, if no luck there, I would take them back to the store and get a refund. Any legitimate store will either make a way for you get them ground up so you can use them, or they will refund your money. Best of luck with it, I just LOVE fresh ground coffee, it's so delicious! And right now with the weather turning cooler by the day, it's perfect weather for a nice cup of hot coffee! | | | | | | |

| | I guess you are too embarrassed to go back to the store? I would. We don't drink coffee and I actually bought coffee today for a meeting I am having in my home tonight. I didn't want a lot of coffee for one evening so I put some beans in a bag and ground them in the machine provided. I hadn't a clue what I was doing. Other alternatives at home would be a blender, and if you don't have one of those perhaps a rolling pin. | | | | | | |

| | I was looking for the receipt last night so I could go back to the store but I can't find it. I may just even drop by and ask someone if they could grind it for me or I may just even buy a cheap grinder and grind my coffee from now on. It was fun hammering with my son though LOL | | | |

| | I would have taken it back to the store. But, as long as you are able to make it work, with a little extra work, I guess that is fine. Pounding on coffee beans is probably a good stress buster also. Just don't hit your hand or anything like that. I wonder if this is the way our ancestors did it. | | | | | | |

| | for me, i will actually bring the coffee back to the store and get a refund... or exchange it... it is a waste of money if i just keep it in my house and i can't use it... but since you already open the packaging and start to grind it by hammering it, there is nothing much you can really do... may be you just have to keep on doing that or buy a cheap grinder... good luck with your coffee... | | | | | | |

| | I'm going to invest in a cheap grinder since the pounding with a hammer took a long while to do, but we had fun (my son and I LOL). | | | |

| | I have had this happen to me before. Applsofgld is right. If you take it back to the store you should either be able to use the store grinder or be able to exchange it for the already ground packs. After I made this mistake I went out and bought a small grinder for like $10, was one of the best kitchen investments I made until I was told I can no longer drink coffee. | | | | | | |

| | Blender. I've never tried it, but I've seen friends grind coffee in the blender instead of getting a coffee grinder. Just put the beans in and hit pulse occasionally until it's the right texture. It'll be pretty loud at first, but it'll work. | | | | | | |

| | If you love coffee as much as I do you will see a big difference when you grind them yourself. I especially love the "aroma"..... | | | |
