I somethimes dont get it why would someone rent a fridge for $12 a week (long term) when the same one in the shops is $500 and you can have it interest free and pay it off over up to 4 year. Do you ever rent something. I have only rented a camera for 3 days as we didnt have one but needed to film something.

I have never understood why people rent furniture and appliences a house or a car maybe but by the time you pay it off considering intrestr and late fees you end up pay tywice as much as you would have if you had just payed in full in the first palce.

me too I dont get it if someone is that needy surely 2 hand is an option untill they can save enough and they most likely you can sell it and get a bit of it back.

I dont understand this also.We never rent something, instead we buy it right away so that way we own it and can do what we want with it,no interest,no payments. When we have the cash we buy it outright then and there and its finished. Peanutjar:)

Yes... it is a crazy thing to do... but people do it because it seem so easy to get what you want instantly with no money down. I have been guilty of it myself in the eighties. I wanted a video recorder and they were costing a thousand dollars in those days... which was a lot of money in the eighties... that was like 12 weeks of rent for a 2 bedroom flat. So I rented one from Rentlo. By the time I bought it from them 3 years later... it had costed me $2000. We live and learn... I guess.

yes I know. A friend of ours (well not so much of a friend we see each other about every second month) had a new tv (lcd) and I congratulated him on the purchase and he sai oh no I dod not buy it I am renting it for a year. I said well how much is it he said 33 a week that is over 1700 a year. and for that money you can get one from any shop.

I do agree with you on the refrigerator deal but I can come up with 2 good reasons for it... #1-The people don't qualify for the store credit line and don't have $500 cash but can afford a $12 a week "payment" even if it will cost more if they keep the refrigerator long term...they may just need it for a couple years until they can save up to buy their own. #2 They realize that new appliances are disposable these days and figuring depreciation on a used appliance realize that they can pay the $12 a week and have a brand new model refrigerator every year and not have maintenance costs rather than purchasing one and having to keep it until it breaks and pay for maintenance in the mean time.

that is also true and does make sence only I have heard so many stories of rental companies not delivering what they promise in services and all that that I am a bit sceptical that it works every time. there was an old lady who had payed over $20.000 over 20 years for a tv and it was the same tv (man it is so old it cold probably go to a colector). they kept promising a newer model but never did bring her one and poor old dear she is like 100 years old and has to get up to change a chanel on this broken down tv.

I haven't ever rented to own,but I have thought about before. We need a new couch and refrigerator. We might try renting from Aarons. We dont have the credit to buy somewhere else right now.

ok since you mentioned couch how is the choice on that (sorry not familiar with the company I live in Australia). I remember the rental company where I live they had 2 couches (same one diferent colours) one table set few other things and some tv, fridges and that sort of things. but not a great deal of choice and as I said it was not rent to own thing.

Some people do not have good enough credit to get no interest financing from the stores. I rented to own a washer and dryer set when a few years ago. What I had to pay for renting it was less than it would cost to go to the laundry mat every week. I ended up paying more for it that way, but at the time my credit was horrible and I would not have gotten interest free financing at one of the other places.

thats true also, but most of the companies that rent out where I live do not do the rent to own thing you rent it and give it back. I know people that can afford to buy it in cash but think that they are making a great deal by renting instead.
