What on earth would possess someone that is walking by a store to just come up and shut the door. Not coming in at all, just come up and shut the door. I didnt not ask you to close it. You arent even coming in here. So dont touch my door. Seriously. Wtf. Okay heres what happened. Someone came into the store. She was handicapped, in a wheelchair. Our doors are capable of staying propped open once they are open. So im helping her and this freaking lady walks up looks at me and shuts the door. Hello?! Theres a person in a wheel chair...that door needs to stay open! Are you mentally retarded?! Ugh! It wasnt that big of a deal for me to go open it but honestly who does that? Why would you do that? You arent even coming in here! So dont touch my door!

No, I am not mentally retarded or any other kind of retarded. But I do have an open door phobia. I do not like to see doors remain open. After all, they are doors. As such, they are to remain closed, otherwise the space they occupy would simply be an opening, not a doorway. If there is a door, it is to remain closed. I close all open doors that I see. All of them.
When I can, I do not even use doors, but prefer using windows as egress points on a building or vehicle. It just makes more sense to me.

If the w/c was facing the door, maybe she thought you had just gotten in and was being helpful by closing the door for you. A lot of w/cs are taken in backwards so as not to potentially dump the occupant out of the chair and maybe this is what she thought was happening.

I can only think that someone did that because it was blocking their way. Otherwise, I find that annoying, too. I mean, they should have said "do you want me to close the door for you" before doing that.
One time, I was staying at a mountain lodge during the off season and my room had a back and front door that opened to the outside. The back door had a nice little patio on a common walkway. It was a warm day and I wanted to leave the door open. I don't know if the wind kept blowing it shut or what, but there were some workers nearby who kept passing my room. Every time I left the door open, it slammed shut about five minutes later, even if I was obviously in the room. I mean, there were virtually no other people staying at this lodge or even in the cabins. No one asked if I wanted the door shut, they just shut it. What if I wanted to carry out my entire lunch and needed the door open?

haha, all i can say is i'm glad i'm out of retail, cuz this kind of wierdness DOES occur...and why? why did she do that? was the door in HER way? could she not see what was going on? why did she feel SHE should be the one who should close it?
but do you think maybe she thought you propped it for the wheelchair and that she was helping YOU by closing it for you? i try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but i bet she was just rude, cuz people are just rude anymore, they're not out to help!

Ok, Cool down, this is the 21st Century. IN Canada there was a big push this last summer (the temperature was in the high 90's F) for store owners to keep the doors on their stores closed. In Ontario we have to conserve electric power, because we don't have enough generating stations online to supply power when everyone is running their airconditioners full blast. So the word is out to store owners to keep their doors shut on hot summer days.
