The voting age in my country is also 18 years old.Actually it states in the law only when you're above 18 years old,you're a real adult.Then you're responsible for everything you do. There are certain periods fixed for people who have reached the eligible age to register themselves as voters. Only the registered voter has the right to vote in the general election. Any how the authority hasn’t made the registration of voters compulsory yet.
