Once again our drug companies have been keeping results of studies from the FDA and the American people. The company's OWN studies showed and increassed risk of liver damage when Zetia (a cholesterol lowering drug) is used in conjuction with a "statin" (also a cholesterol lowering drug. Vytorin contains both in one pill. Here is the full story - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/21/business/21drug.html?th&emc=th This information was known and warnings were issued by both Canada and Australia TWO YEARS AGO and very little mention or warning has occurred in the US. If this drug REALLY helped people as much as it's publicists claim; it MIGHT be worth risking your health for; but, "there is no evidence proving that Zetia can reduce heart attacks and strokes, as cholesterol drugs are meant to do". So we have hundreds of thousands of people using Zetia in combination with cholesterol lowering statins; risking liver failure, hepatitis, pancreatitis, and depression because our doctors and the public have NOT been given ALL of the facts. The sole reason for withholding that information is so the drug company's can line their own pockets. So, if you (or someone you know) is using this combination for cholesterol; please read the article and make an informed decision about whether YOU want to accept this risk or not. If you decide on "not"; then, take this article with you when you do see your doctor so he will also become informed about this risk. Clearly, the FDA is once again dragging it's feet and not taking action (they have dropped the ball on this problem for 2 years already).

I used Lipitor for a couple of years and have been off any cholesterol medication for awhile and just watch what I eat. My mother takes Zetia but seems to still have problems with her cholesterol even though along with it she's careful about her diet. My personal feeling is that since it can be hereditary medication isn't going to be of much help and we just need to be careful.
