I have an old Hammond Organ. My husband will not let me get a piano because it is too big, but I have downloaded midi files and have a software karaoke program so that I can practice my singing from them. I know that some people sing using a guitar, and others a keyboard, and I gather some have an accompanist. So what I want to know is for you singers, do you use instrumental Cds to practice your singing, someone or yourself playing the piano or keyboard or organ, or do you use some form of karaoke?

I sing along with a cd or the radio. I am not lucky enough to know how to play an instrument.

I tried a guitar once. I could only strum a few notes, but I am left-handed and I will have to get a left-handed guitar.

I don't know how to sing, but am learning to play music, so I have an electronic keyboard. It is not that paper thin one that folds up like on TV, but it is a pretty nice keyboard for its age. What is really nice about it is that I don't have to pay someone to tune it ever. Below is a picture of my space-saving inexpensive alternative to a piano.

I am a very bad organ player. I use mostly my right hand and I make up chords for the left. Seems I am better than that at reading music. I would not mind having a karaoke machine. I have to wear glasses when reading some of the sheet music, the kind I downloaded. The ones in the regular songbooks are fine, but I do not have a printer that will print those, it does not have a wide enough width.

When I sing, I mostly sing along to my Cd's but I also enjoy singing to a piano or other instrument. It just depends. But I mostly just sing to Cd's because I try to match my voice to the singers as a way of exercising my vocal range.

I belong to Repetoire Online, and they usually have midi files that I can play in my karoake software, because much of the work is copyright, and I sing to those. I also have sheet music and I sing along to that. I do not do much popular because much of it is in the mezzo soprano or alto range and I am a soprano.
