Songs that tell Stories | | | | Driving around today I heard "Three Wooden Crosses" by Randy Travis on the radio. I was just browsing through stations and I started to listen. I had heard it before, and it still touched me. But it told a story. A lot of songs don't tell much of a story. I'm not talking about shootings, or love scenes unfolding through verse, I'm talking about real stories. So what is your favorite 'story' song(s)? I also like "Travelin' Soldier", most recently sung by the Dixie Chicks, and also (don't laugh) "Harper Valley PTA" by Margie Singleton, even if it is an older song. : ) If any of you have heard that. | | Last Kiss...I don't know who sang it...but it goes.....we were out on a date in my daddy's car....we hadn't driven very far....when up in the road...straight ahead a car was stalled then engine was dead....then it goes on to tell how they hit the car and their last kiss! Gene Pitney also had lots of songs that told a story....like 24 hours from Tulsa. Or how about the Green Berets! That is one of my favorites too and my son sings it all the time! | | | | | | | 4monsters4me (2009)

| | All the old, original country songs were stories. George Jones and COnway Twitty, Waylon Jennings - the oldies were all stories. Sad, hearbreakers! Marty Robbins was a story teller. Yes, Harper Valley PTA was a good one! Remember when they made a tv series about it - staring Barbara Eden? That was a good one, unfortunately it only lasted 1 or 2 seasons, but that was cause it was to good - not enough violance and crime to it! | | | | | | | AmbiePam (20757)

| | It's pretty darn rare for a show to come out of song, but what a song! And yes, the oldies were the story tellers, and hopefully that isn't a lost art in today's crop. | | | | | | | Local Coupons Ridiculously huge deals every day. | | The only song that comes to mind that "tells a story" is a rather old one by Kathy Mattea, called "Where Have You Been"--yikes I got to grab the tissues every time I hear that one--I was able to find the lyrics for it: Claire had all but given up When she and Edwin fell in love She touched his face and shook her head In disbelief she sighed and said In many dreams I've held you near Now at last you're really here Chorus Where have you been? I've looked for you for ever and a day Where have you been? I'm just not myself when you're away He asked her for her hand for life Then she became a salesman's wife He was home each night by 8 But one stormy evening he was late Her frightened tears fell to the floor Until his key turned in the door Chorus They'd never spent a night apart For 60 yrs she heard him snore Now they're in a hospital In seperate beds on different floors Claire soon lost her memory, forgot the names of family She never spoke a word again Then one day they wheeled him in He held her hand and stroked her hair In a fragile voice she said Chorus Where have you been Ive searched for you forever and a day Where have you been Im just not myself when your away Im just not myself when your away The website I got it from is here http://www.lyricsdownload... If you've never heard the song...here's a YouTube video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibvuK5WQ9tk

| | My favorite song that tells a story is "Even A Fool Can See" by Peter Cetera. It's a song from the 90's, I think. It tells about a marriage breaking up, but I like it because I like his voice, and I like the opening line, "One big happy family" It sounds like someone about to tell a story. | | | | | | | | | | Country Radio - 100% Free Discover New Country Music! | | My favorite has always been Cats in the cradle. I think it was Cat Stevens that sang it They lyrics are as below... My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind" He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad It's been sure nice talking to you" And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then | | | | | | | pyewacket (12221)

| | Before, I would have said just my gospel music. But, there is an oldie song that has become on of my favorites in recent years. You see, although this artist has been dead for many years, his music is still celebrated today. I live with his niece and have had the opportunity to meet some members of his family. I always liked this song, but I had never really listened to it with me feeelings. It was only after I met his family that it became more real to me. The song is "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay," the artist is the legendary Otis Redding. Yipeeee, hooraaaay, for good music, LOL. | | | | | | | | | | Marion Solutions Manual View Even & Odd Marion Textbook Problems Explained Step-By-Step! Cramster.com/Physics_Marion | add comment | | | |

| | My 2 all time favorite story telling songs "Thank You" by Ray Boltz and "I Promise" by Cheri Potter (now known as Cheri DeGruccio). The lyrics goes like this: THANK YOU Verse 1 I dreamed I went to heaven And you were there with me We walked upon the streets of gold Beside the crystal sea We heard the angels singing Then someone called your name You turned and saw this young man And he was smiling as he came And he said, Friend you may not know me now And then he said, But wait You used to teach my Sunday School When I was only eight And every week you would say a prayer Before the class would start And one day when you said that prayer I asked Jesus in my heart Chorus: Thank you for giving to the Lord I am a life that was changed Thank you for giving to the Lord I am so glad you gave Verse 2 Then another man stood before you And said remember the time A missionary came to your church And his pictures made you cry You didn't have much money But you gave it anyway Jesus took the gift you gave And that's why I'm here today Verse 3 One by one they came Far as your eyes could see Each life somehow touched By your generosity Little things that you had done Sacrifices made Unnoticed on the earth, in heaven now proclaimed Verse 4 And I know up in heaven You're not suppose to cry But I am almost sure There were tears in your eyes As Jesus took your hand And you stood before the Lord He said, my child look around you For great is your reward I PROMISE Verse 1 I hold you in my arms right now I can't believe it's true I never thought I'd see the day That I'd be losing you I hope with all my heart that when You look into my face You know I would give anything If I could take your place Chorus: And I promise you that I will not Forget the way you smile I promise that I will remember you And if someone can hold a place Deep within my heart I promise that it will be you Verse 2 I look into your eyes right now And wipe away your tear The pain will soon be gone for good The final moments near So close your eyes and hold my hand And dream of what will be When heaven's gates are opening And Jesus' face you see Bridge: And though you'll soon be gone I know one day I'll see Your smiling face again Looking down at me | | | | | | | AmbiePam (20757)

I love her Tapestry album, particularly her songs Beautiful, Smack Water Jack, Tapestry, You've Gotta Friend, oh heck, the whole album! lol.
