I'd pick Franklin Delano Roosevelt although he was in office a little over sixty years ago. He was a bit before my time but I think he was the greatest US president ever. This country was frozen and going rapidly down hill when he came into office. I once read that he passed more legislature in his first 100 days in office than any other President did in 4-8 years. There's not an major artist that didn't work for the WPA, not to mention all the other Americans who found work there. He initiated Social Security and insured the banks. Until his presidency, Americans never even had Social Security numbers.

If he were in office today, he would do something about healthcare. Blue Cross insurance was started in his presidency as a low cost way for all Americans to have health care. Now that's only for the job insured or the wealthy or the foools like me who are struggling to pay a fortune rather than risk no coverage. FDR would solve the current health problem just as he solved so many social problems in his own time.

FDR was great for getting us out of the depression, but he did some pretty terrible things as well. If he were president now then every man, woman, and child of Middle Eastern descent would be sitting in concentration camps waiting for him to decide when our war on terror was over. That's exactly what he did to Americans of Asian descent during WWII. I know he gets high on those lists for fixing our economy and getting us involved with WWII, but I'd hate to live under a president that would imprison Americans based solely on their ancestry.

I would have to say that I have a poor opinion of all the presidents from Regan onward except Clinton. The only thing Clinton did wrong was .. essentially.. have an affair. In terms of his job, he took care of the American people. Everyone else seems to take care of business, big business, rich people, and campaign contributors. (Which are usually all the same thing.) Somehow that makes me feel as if they don't really care about my needs or concerns.

I feel Bill Clinton was a good President and I feel that Hillary Clinton would be an even better President.

Ronald Reagan is the greatest American leader in the last 60 years-he ended the cold war and made Americans to live their lives in relative peace of mind from the threats of the Russian nuclear arsenals-he made America the undisputed super power because in his very face, Russia just disintergrated into small statelets! May his soul rule for ever!

I think this will depend to some degree on how old each person is that answers this question. Are we talking about all around best at the job or best at covering up any wrong doing? Are you asking if the person had good relations in office and out of office? Personally, I think Eisenhower did a great job and you didn't hear about bad things when he wasn't in office either. Many people think Reagan did a good job also.

I would lean towards Lyndon B. Johnson as the best president in the last 60 years. He was a great innovater and signed both the Civil Rights act and the Voter's Rights act. I don't know if he'd be the president we need right now, but he was great at helping our country evolve beyond racist policies and helped us become a much better, more moral and respectable nation.
