I am really happy HR Block just called me and my tax refund check is here. We pay the extra money to get the check the next day as we need the money really badly now I can pay my $200 gas bill and pay the cable bill before it gets shut off.
Do you wait for your tax refund to be mailed to you or do you do the rapid refund like I do so you can get your money right away?

We almost never get a refund. I'm glad that my husband is skilled at money management. He calculates things so that we come out as even as possible at the end of the year. Being self-employed involves paying taxes quarterly, so he keeps good tabs on the money and where it goes.
Remember that you pay a nice fee for that rapid refund, money that you could use elsewhere. You might consider changing your withholding so that you receive a little more each paycheck, then put that extra money away for a rainy day since you're not used to having it anyway. It's always nice to have a little nest egg stashed away, especially with a bank instead of with the IRS so that you earn interest on it.

My dad tells me the same thing, but then I wouldn't have a big chunk of money at one time to catch up on everything. I am not a good saver and there are always things that come up that I need to pay for. That would never work for me, but it would be the ideal way to handle money.

I certainly understand that. Many, many people feel that way and I used to, too. My husband is from a very frugal family who saved and invested very well. They're not rich (and we're definitely not rich) but they thought about the future and put money away for that, which is a good thing because my father-in-law was able to be in a nursing home for awhile before he passed away and now my mother-in-law lives comfortably (not anything fancy, just comfortable) without having to worry about how she's going to pay that nursing home bill - or buy food day to day. Just think how much you would have at retirement if you put just a little bit of money away every month. Believe me, it adds up and can save the day when an unexpected lifestyle change comes into your life. (We've been there, done that.)

I would also rather have the big chunk of money at the end of the year than change my withholding. I don't mind paying the fee for the rapid refund we get a nice chunk of change so we don't even notice that extra they take out.

I just sent mine to my tax accountant. I just have mine direct deposited into my checking account. Though as you I will be paying bills to get caught up on the bills that I am behind on, and hopefully have a little extra to get a few things that I need and want.

I do my own taxes online and normally have the money in less than a week e-filing. We are lucky enough to have money to more than cover our bills so I don't feel the need to waste some of our refund rapid filing.

I just got my W-2 yesterday so I am going to do it online at H&R Block today. Yes I do the rapid because I need it right away too. I always pay all of my Christmas bills off when I get my tax money. I love tax time! I have 3 kids so I get a lot back!
