Dying Fabric

I recently bought some off white curtains and when I got them home I realized that the off white just didn't look right against my wall colour. I don't want to get rid of them 'cause I just bought them! Does anybody have any ideas about how to dye curtains. I don't necessarily want to use "fabric dye". Any "At home" methods would be much appreciated.

You didn't mention what kind of fabric the curtains are made of, there are some fabrics that just won't take natural dye. If you are using tea or coffee, make sure that you set the dye in. I usually use vinegar since the salt makes the fiber accept and keep the dye in the fabric.
If it's a man made fiber, you might want to test before you tea dye...also make sure you agitate the "dye" through the fabric thoroughly so that you don't get uneven blotches.
If it is a blend, you can use dylon which is a cold water dye, they make a tea dye too. I've used all kinds of methods with dying mohair for my teddy bears (I'm a bear artist) and have a wonderful time coming up with dyes for the bears. You also might check either online or at the library for "natural" organic items to use for dye. I'm waiting for my Mullberry tree to bear fruit so that I can test it out as a dying agent.

I don't know where you live, but where I live, there are several mosses, plants & lichens that we can dye with. Is there a special color you want.

i would suggest going back to the store that you bought them from or any other craft store that sells fabric and ask a professional what is the best way to dye curtains and what is safe to use on certain fabrics whatever you decide to use i would definitely suggest washing the curtains first once i tried to dye some fabric before i washed the garment of clothing because i was in a hurry and the dye would not take and then it made a complete mess when i tried to wash it you could also try looking on the internet for good dying methods to use
