There is a push to eliminate incandescent bulbs and replace them with flourescent spiral bulbs. Look around your house. Will all of your lighting fixtures look good without incandescent bulbs? What about those small flame bulbs in your dining room chandelier? How about those globes over the mirror in your bathroom? How would all those look with spiral fluorescent bulbs with large, thick bases that hold the starting elements?

I have fluorescent tubes in my garage - when it gets cold outside those bulbs don't always light. When they do light and it is cold the light is dim. Won't this be a wonderful way to live?

Many lighting fixtures must have incandescent bulbs. Most electronic switches will not work with fluorescent bulbs.

This move to ban them is ridiculous!!!

What are you going to do?!?

I am on my first pack of the new bulbs. The first bulb was broken when a lamp fell over. The second one has been in for about 8 months, I'm trying to find out if they really last longer. But to your question, yes I do have some lighting that the spirals will ruin the look.

I'd be happy to use them if I could read by them or see half-way decently with them.

When you get older, you need more light to see things you used to be able to deal with in even dim light. The new bulbs aren't bright enough--or something--for me to read by.

But they're great in the kitchen! It's bright and nice with those bulbs. They're rather depressing in the other rooms, though. So stark, even with lampshades, and everything looks dim.

I'll get used to them but I've laid in a stock of regular bulbs for my two reading lights, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. They're supposed to be better for the environment so that's a plus, too.

But...for the most part I hate them!

I am so happy the people that took the decision to ban the incandescent bulb don't think like you!
It seems to me all you care is how your house looks like and the ambiance around the house. Don't worry, eye-pleasing chandeliers and globes will appear for fluorescent bulbs as they appeared for the incandescent. If I look to a incandescent bulb I find it looks worse than a fluorescent one.
As for the dim light, get bulbs with higher power!
Please note that switchers can be changed...
The change was not made out of someone's mood, it is necessary to reduce the human impact (large as it is already) on the environment. Your children's children will feel it on their own skin.
What am I going to do?
Let me tell you what I have done already, when the incandescent bulb is not yet banned: I've switched to fluorescent bulbs. And they light just fine if you give them the chance!
(I'm sorry that I can't agree with you, but it's just how I see things. Cheers!)

LED based bulbs can be made much more compatible with current lighting designs. They consume less electricity, can be made smaller for torpedo style bulbs, and they will last almost forever. They are also much safer than fluorescent - which are a bio hazard!

Until LEDs are properly developed into standard bulbs -

If incandescents are banned there will be a new illegal industry created in black market light bulbs.

Oh, so you're not against removing the incandescent bulbs, you just don't agree with imposing the fluorescent bulb.
That's a fair position, from my point of view. Well, I don't think the LEDs will also be banned, but I must agree the fluorescent bulb will tend to monopolize the bulb market as LEDs are not so well advertised or developed...

I have replaced all my incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents. I like them...we have been in our house for over a year. We bought them and installed them right after we moved in and we haven't had to replace a bulb yet...the last longer than regular bulbs and they don't use as much electricity...they are great

If manufacturers could only come up with Incandescent bulbs that don't consume too much electricity which causes fire hazards, we'd still be using them at home.

If they could come up with a good solution to the cause which got those bulbs banned, then things would go back to normal like it use to.

The answer is LED!

myLot reputation of 99/100. ratyz5 (3010)   ranked 2,356 out of 38,434 in life  2 years ago

You mean there are Light-Emitting Diodes that bright up like incandescent lights? There are really big ones to replace those kinds of bulbs...?

myLot reputation of 61/100. qbranchltd (116)   ranked 6,290 out of 38,434 in life  2 years ago

Multiple LEDs are combined in one globe to create as bright a light as one needs. No commercial LEDs are readily available at this point, but they do dominate the flashlight market right now.
