Why do people want to sit in the "audience" of the court shows on tv?

I watch all the court tv shows in the afternoon...ok, I'm addicted to them...lol. At the end of all of them they give you the phone number and email address to get in touch with them if you want to sit in their audience. Maybe people thinking about going to law would like to do that but then why not just watch them on tv? I don't get it! If you were in the city where one of these shows was being taped would you want to be in the audience? Would you go to that city specifically to be on a court tv show?

Hello Ctry, I've never even given this any thought. Very interesting question, my friend! Not only would I not travel to a city specifically to be part of a courtroom t.v. audience, I don't even watch those shows. Personally, I find the real-life scenario of folks volunteering to observe sitting judicial behavior through the program "Judicial Watch" as much more interesting. "Judicial Watch" compiles the data provided by average U.S. citizens to grade judges on their judicial competence, and professionalism. I have to think that seeing 'the real mccoy', while being able to contribute to the overall health of the judiciary is a much better use of one's time. Though, clearly I am in the minority -- because those shows must have a pretty sizeable viewing audience. Different strokes for different folks, eh?

I have noticed that when we watch Judge Judy there is this one girl that is always in the audience every episode she stands out to me becasue she looks like my sister in law. I think people sit in on those judge shows just to be on tv that is the only thing I can think of.

I think people get a good laugh from some of the comments either the plaintiff makes or the defendant or some of the things the judges say to them. The shows are pretty funny to watch and hear the excuses and lies from the people involved and people probably want to be there to witness what is going on. I prefer just watching it on tv as well.

I think some of them would be kind of fun to sit in on...I wouldn't want to sit in on a long one or Judge Judy (I'd get arrested there b/c I can't stand her) or Jerry Springer...that show is hilarious but also insane. Of course, I probably wouldn't have time between the sightseeing but perhaps some ppl just want their 15 minutes of fame. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I have heard, ctry, that the audiences are actually made up of some law students. There can also be interested parties who have some knowledge or relation to the cases being tried. I would suppose that some are just curious also. I have sat in on an actual trial before, and I found it to be very interesting hearing the testimony, etc.

I would say the same reason that anyone wants to sit in on any trial or any tv show. Simple as that. It could be fun and entertaining... and a court trial could be interesting. Fun, entertaining and interesting...all reasons to sit in on a tv show and/or court tv show.

I wouldn't want to be in the audience since all the do is sit quietly, but I bet the people who did are realllly into court cases and reallllly intersted to see the whole process. Plus, they probably hope to see some drama that wouldn't make it to the show!

Oh i am addicted to them myself,I watch them all every single day.I love the judge shows..I guess probably the audience enjoys hearing the shows as we do but they get a chance to sit in..if i had a chance to sit in the audience O would do it too..I would not take a trip to see one but if they had it here in my city ,yes i would go..I think it would be fun to sit in the audience, but you can only see the back of their heads unless they have TV;s there.....

I would agree. surely its some kind of gimmick. I know I wouldn't want to sit there. Even if it is going to be on tv.
