School closing announcements on tv driving me crazy!  

I believe it may be a public safety thing where they are required by law to show the school closings on TV through out the day. Not sure if the notices have to be a certain size though. I just got home from driving in that carp out side. My work still had us come in only to leave early and log back in at home.

Yup they can become annoying. They really only need to show it in the mornings and not all day. It always happens here in VA too.

The schools are out today but the weather isn't too bad today. I think they expected worse according to the weather reports last night.

My son wasn't happy that he had to stay home with me LOL

Yes it drives me crazy too!! lol I mean, I can understand in the morning but once it's the afternoon, it's time to stop and give the information to the news stations and let THEM broadcast it but no, they have to drive us batty with their repeats and repeats.

Yes they do that here to when the schools close an announcement goes across the bottom of the screen over and over again.
The school here will call if the school calls it is called connect ed it is an automated system that calls so I really don't have to pay to much attention to those announcements.

Believe it or not, ctry, some people don't have enough common sense to keep their kids at home when there's inclement weather. I think we all get annoyed with the constant running of school -and other- closings trailing across the bottom of our TV screens, but they will continue to do it anyway.

I am not too very far from you at all and amazingly our school was open. The roads were and still are horrible but the school stayed open. They have closed for storms not even nearly this bad. I think the kids have used all their snow days and they are trying hard not to add more.

Makes me reall y glad I homeschool, I have to say right now tat with all the hype of the winter weather advisary, we didn't get teh ice storm, and schools closed around here for nuthin'....

I know its better to be safe than sorry, but they could have gone a half a day and got the four hours in and hten sen the kids home, but here in MD it was a non event.

just shows tht weather is a freaky type thing that does hat it wants and tries to make a mockery of the people who predict it.

Unfortunately, common sense is very uncommon, and some parent is likely to send their kids just to get them out of their hair, or some child will get themselves up and go to school it happened where I live. Luckily someone was on hand to send her home. I know they are distracting, but I feel they are important. I think they ought to remove them for parts of every hour, and that would help those who have problems because of them.

People should use common sense. But then you'd be amazed at how many schools don't cancel. We just had every day of our Easter vacation taken away from us because of snow days so we had school yesterday and the roads were terrible yesterday morning (over 380 schools in my area closed but not my children's school). And a lot of parents think since the school didn't call off that maybe the roads are better then they think they are and send their kids to school. I know I personally live on a back road and if I based my road on the main roads I'd never leave my house in the winter...lol

But here they turn the announcements off around 10--right after the 2hour delays would end. At night they sometimes turn if back on to list if school activities are canceled or activities in town.

I know what you are saying! I am in the South and we get alot of storms and Tornadoes down here. Every time there is one, the locacl stations all put them up on the screen for hours. It's so annoying, but, I realize probably necessary. One time while watching Milllionaire, they had the mpa right over the questions and you couldn't read the question. bout 10 mins later I noticed they moved it to the top corner. Someone must have complained. One day I was trying to watch and tape Ringo Starr on a talk show and guess what comes on for about 2 minutes of his time on the show....a damn alert system testing. I couldn't hear a word he was saying! Couldn't they do that crap at 2 in the moring when not so many people are watching tv! Makes me so mad, especially for what I pay just to watch these programs.
