well I think it is important to discuss about the texts and passages of the Bible. If we understand debate in that manner we definitely more of it. And as we discuss we need to go back to the Bible and crosscheck our understanding... ask experts and refer commentaries. But if we mean it by heated argument with the attitude to win the debate at any cost then such debate is harmful, I think. So such debate should be avoided.

Not a big fan of debating the Bible or the Koran for that matter. Each book is open to interpretations and is a matter of personal belief about how you interpret.
There is no clear right or wrong point of view with either book, and I therefore think who am I to disagree with someones beliefs

I personally don't like it too, because most of the time even when we get to answer every "attack" others might have about the Bible, they still will not believe. But sometimes by debating we can actually find out more about the Bible and to identify areas that we are still lacking in the knowledge of the Bible. So, I think next time when a non-Christian wants to debate about the Bible, the first question we need to ask them is "Do you promise to believe if I can answer all of your questions and queries?". =P

For me, it is not a good idea debating about the Bible.
Instead of debating, people should just talk what they think on Bible passages/verses. They should help each other to understand the Bible more. I can't think of any advantage in debating. Why not just use the verses in helping themselves grow :)

I personally wouldn't indulge in debating about the Bible, simply because the Bible is not for debating. If our true motive is to save the soul of the other person from going to hell then, the best way is to set an example before them by leading a Godly life & no-one can debate on this. Moreover Heb2:13-17 tells us how to silence the ignorant.

Its good to talk about verses in the Bible as they can encourage us in many ways, although I believe some topics are better off not discussed beacuse they will most certainly lead to a debate and conflicts between christians... (Topics such as predestination which is the most common topic people talk about)
