OMG This Skin Makes Me LOOK SOOO FAT!

Pardon me whilst a rant awhile. There are few things that aggravate me more than stupid people. Very few. But on that short list is people and their incessant whining about their weight. *Disclaimer* I use the word FAT, A LOT in this discussion. I use that word because that's what fat people are. They're fat. They're not large; they're not stout, chunky, hefty, or plump. And they're not big-boned. Dinosaurs are big-boned. These people are not necessarily obese, either. Obese is a medical term. And they're not overweight. Overweight implies there is some correct weight. There is no correct weight. Heavy is also a misleading term. An aircraft carrier is heavy; it's not fat. Only people are fat, and that's what fat people are. They're fat. I offer no apology for this. It is not intended as criticism or insult. It is simply descriptive language. Let me also add that I AM NOT thin, skinny, anorexic, or any other descriptive word often used to describe people who aren't fat. I am 5'7" and roughly 160 lbs. But I have muscles in my thighs that could break a mans neck if he were not careful. I'd say I'm athletic, but then that would denote that I'm an athlete and I'm not. So here is to everyone I offend in this discussion. My sincerest apologies. Now back to my discussion. It boils my blood when I see a 5'4" 100 lbs. soaking wet if they are lucky little twit whining that she can't wear this or that because it "Makes her look fat" She could paint herself up in 50 gallons of lard and still NOT LOOK FAT. But hey, I guess if you aren't built like Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen then you are FAT. It also made me wonder how in the heck Britany Spears (god I loathe this woman) was criticized for her appearance at some worthless awards show because she was TOO FAT to be performing in what she was wearing. I could only hope that one day I too am as FAT as Britany. Then there are the women (and I say women because I have yet to meet a man who checked his rear end in the mirror before leaving the house to make sure his jeans didn't make his butt look big) who won't wear white because it makes them look fat. They won't wear shorts cause it makes their legs look fat. God forbid they go to the beach and wear a bathing suit because then EVERYONE can see how FAT they LOOK. And these women are adequately proportioned. 36-28-36 is now considered FAT if you are to listen to these women ramble. Here is a news flash! CLOTHES and COLORS don't make someone LOOK fat. Only FAT makes someone LOOK fat because they ARE fat. I can't be the only one who realizes this, am I? I USED TO BE FAT so I would know. I was 242 lbs. when I delivered my second child. Yes, go on and tell me I wasn't fat I was pregnant. NO! I was fat. I was so fat I could look out of the corner of my own eye and see my butt! And my BUTT wasn't pregnant. But I knew I could lose the weight once I had the baby so I tried my best through my overactive hormones to laugh at myself whenever possible. I remember a nurse asked me if I knew my blood type when I went in to deliver. I told her yes. It was Ragu. But there is another side to this annoyance of mine. FAT people who refuse to admit they are FAT!. No one wants to see 280 lbs on a 5 foot frame squeezed into a pair of jeans that must have been sewn together with the thread they use to make parachutes walking down a street with so many rolls of flesh hanging out from under their mid riff shirt that it looks like she is a traveling summer sausage saleswoman. Ever heard the phrase, "Spandex, it's a privilege, NOT a right" Yeah, that is what I am talking about. Just because it comes in your size DOES NOT give you the right to put in on and wear it in public. I often think these people live alone or with others who secretly hate them. If they were my room mate they would never get out of the house without being told they look ridiculous in whatever they are wearing. Wouldn't you rather be told by someone you know rather than a strangers child in a restaurant how FAT you ARE, not look, ARE. Because we all know child are too entirely honest. So there is my rant on fat. Anyone care to contribute?

I don't know you but if you say you're overweight then I have to believe you. I remember back before I gave birth to an elephant I was a size 9 too but I look just as good in my 12's and 14's as I did in my 7's and 9's. I'm a firm believer in dressing in clothes that best accentuate your figure, not make you look like someone tried to stuff a hippo in a leotard. But I so understand what you mean. I run my tail off all day long and I eat right but I can't lose any more weight than I already have. I don't care anymore either.

I'm FAT, and I don't mind admitting that since the menopause, I've always been FAT, but I never whined or moaned and people accepted me for my happy, friendly disposition. I made jokes about my being FAT. I didn't wear lycra or any tight fitting close... I rarely wear jeans or pants unless I'm just messing around at home, in the garden, or perhaps going for a walk in the countryside on a cold day, and having to climb over styles and such. I wear long-line, unfitted, short sleeved shirts, over a vest top, and longish skirts, which don't cover up the fact that I'm FAT, but don't cling either. There you have it... I'm FAT and I know it, and furthermore, I don't give a hoot what anybody else thinks about my weight... it's what's inside that counts, and if I'm happy with that, then they have to be. It's their problem if I don't mind it and they do! Having vented with all that... I'm now at a time in my life, when I need to lose weight for the good of my health. I CAN and will do that, and will use weights to lose my FAT and turn it into MUSCLE! :) Brightest Blessings, and thank you for the laugh. I like your sense of humour... so much better than the whining and moaning, as you say!

No, and I think they don't realise how it doesn't seem to affect you in your younger days, but as you get older, you do suffer with health problems, and also, the fat is more difficult to get rid of. Brightest Blessings.

And thank you for your comment. I appreciate people who are aware of their weight and act appropriately. I'm glad to hear you are doing something about your weight for your health too. I don't think people truly realize how much they are affecting themselves by not maintaining a healthy diet.

no I don’t want to contribute for the simple reason that after reading the entire discussion I could not really understand what was it about (OK me the thick-head). At 5’6” weighing around 140lbs I consider myself fat. This means that I am not being able to wear many clothes which I used to in my youth, for the simple reason that I AM FAT and not because they make me look fat. People you are talking about are not fat, they are OK or maybe slim even and they know that and yet whine unnecessarily about their looks only because they want people to actually appreciate their figure. If you are ranting against such types then I am with you…I feel like slapping them across the face asking them not to make such a nuisance about themselves. Or no….its not about them, its about people who are bloated at their edges, bursting at their seams, yet whining that some piece of cloth can make them LOOK FAT…right? Or no…something else??? Sorry I am still confused. No no I got it, its against people who refuse to admit that they are fat and instead go around looking for excuses. Right? Well then, I am not in your line of fire. PS: What is RAGU?

If I may make so bold (as a man...), I think one point being made in the original post is in line with the thinking that 5'6" and 140lbs is actually quite reasonable, 4'6" and 140lbs would be another story... This was one of many points, I'm not surprised that you got a bit confused... I think the original post concludes that you don't qualify as FAT, and I think I would agree - hope you can see that is a good thing... Nowadays, 'fat' is a lot to do with perception rather than actual fact and the fact remains that you would be harshly judged if you were considered fat with the statistics you state. Maybe there needs to be a distinction between a body with a little extra on the side (which strictly speaking is made up of fat), and those who are actually FAT. I propose that those with a little extra may be allowed to think of themselves as 'fat' in lower case, reserving the upper-case 'FAT' for those qualifying as clinically obese. No-one should be wearing the clothes they wore in their youth unless they also want to be considered 'odd' or even 'ODD'... Personally I am one of those who could be considered as being as skinny (5'8" and 145lbs) as they come, but even I could not get into the clothes I was wearing 25 years ago (nor would I want to...). Ragu is pasta sauce made from tomatoes....

Thank you live. You explained it better than I could have. I would immediately went off because at 5'6" 140 thinking she is fat kind of proves part of my many points I was making. Great job at explaining.

"Just because it comes in your size DOES NOT give you the right to put in on and wear it in public." Fat people do NOT look good ... they look awful undressed and they look awful dressed. Clothing styles are not made for fat people or for people of unusual proportions. What are we fatties then supposed to do? Are we to stay at home and stay indoors and not let anyone see our fat, ugly selves? I'm really not sure where you're coming from here Cyn.

Ok so maybe that line should be written to say, "Just because it comes in the size you THINK you are does not give you the write to wear it" The point of the whole discussion was people who complain about their weight for no good reason (really skinny girls saying they are fat) and really big girls who think they are one of those skinny girls (Size 24W Sally squeezing her behind into a size 16) irritate me almost as much as stupid people. They make clothes for women of every shape and size, I know because in the past 10 years I have been every size from a 7 to a 24W and now am halfway back to that 7 again. I always picked clothes that would flatter my figure, regardless if my figure was eggplant, hourglass, or just plain round. I never looked like someone had to pour me into my pants or that the seams on my jeans would be blown out with one good fart. It wasn't hard to do, so I don't see why someone else wouldn't do it...dress according to their size, not the size they think they are. And honey, I never said fat was ugly. I was 242 lbs and I was still beautiful and I know plenty of women who are much more than averaged size who are simply gorgeous. But I will tell you that all this big beautiful women that I know and have seen were dressed their size and didn't go out looking like someone stuffed a hippo into a leotard.

Wow you are such an honest person I feel like taking a picture of myself and posting it here so you can tell me how fat I really am. I am and 5 foot 7 so I am just a little bit more than you. In the last few weeks I have dropped a stone and I aint anywhere near finished. I have always been fat. Since my early teenage years and I was always happy with the size I was. Just though in recent months I have decided to lose weight and I am certainly doing it. I know I am fat. But just cos you admit that you are fat makes absolutely no difference. Fat can still be beautiful. I am not saying its the fat that is gorgeous but sometimes fat just doesnt matter and if the person is pretty enough and has a personality that shines outwards then I think they can be beautiful. You are right though there are some people who I think should be chained to a chair with no food for a month not only for the state they look but for what they are doing to their bodies. I personally dont believe that anyone can say they cant shift the weight. Maybe the last 5lbs but not the extra stones they are carrying around. I havent done any more exercise than usual and I have lost 2-3lbs every week with a freak week where I lost 9lbs. I dont eat bread, pasta, choc, crisps, basically anything that has carbs in it and I am very strict with myself and it is wroking. I have structered meal times and I try and eat simple things.

Well as long as you only ever give your opinions when asked for. I don't actually appreciate people that lie to me about the way I look. Sometimes I have put on an outfit and been told it looks great by one person only to be told by someone else that you can see where the waistband is pinching me at the back.

You rock. This is exactly what I think. I seriously hate it when people say they're "big boned" because...If it were their bones that were big, then their skin wouldn't have rolls! And I cannot stand it either when I walk into the grocery store and some 350 pound woman is wearing diasy dukes and midriff halter top. What could posess her to do such a thing? I had an ex-roommate who was fat and she was pregnant (although she didn't find out until she was 6 months pregnant) and she tried to blame her weight on her pregnancy! SHe was fat BEFORE she got pregnant?!

She didn't know she was pregnant for 6 months BECAUSE she was fat, not she was fat because she was pregnant. I would have been the first to point this out to her. I guess some people are either dying for attention whether it is negative or not.

This is so blunt and so stinking funny lol. I have to say that I am not fat but I have places where I could improve things. I am 5'4 and I weigh 104 lbs. After having kids my body doesnt look the same as it did before. I'm pretty much to lazy to exercise so while I am thin I am not fit. I think because I am small when I see a little flab to my stomach that is more obvious in certain pants or shirts it bothers me where as if someone is fat they are going to look fat no matter what they wear really. It makes me sick to see someone who is big squeezed into skin tight clothes and then their fat just hangs over the top. Just because you can get your self squeezed into a size 2 doesnt mean you are in fact a size 2. A size 2 is a little bit on me but I usually choose to wear it and have my clothes to big then have them be so skin tight that I look ridiculous!

hi at first I was angry as I read what you said then I reread it and I agree whole heartedly with you some twit whining thatsomething makes her look fat and she is just an inch from being anorexic. I am fat and am trying hard to lose and get more control over my blood glucose. and I would never wear stuff that would make me look like the fat lady in a circus side show. yes fat is fat and being that way is only asking to become diabetic or have a heart attack. thinking fat people are working on becoming unfat people and the unthinking ones are going to be in such health trouble you cannot believe. thanks for being refreshingly true.

I admire anyone who can admit they are overweight and they are doing something about it besides sitting around complaining or ignoring the fact they are the way they are. You also make a very good point about all the health issues that surround people who are significantly overweight. Large women who dress for their body shape and size are all right in my book. And skinny little bony butts whining about fat that no one else on them can see should be taken out and force fed cream filled donuts until their size 0 pants don't button. Come on...how can ZERO be a size now!
