Do you hate mosquitoes? |
| |
| Hands up - who hates mosquitoes? I raised 4 myself. Ok I cheated... 2 hands and 2 legs. Oops, I just fell on my back. :P Unless you are Buddha reincarnated, I doubt you would say you love mosquitoes. I will dial for the asylum if you saw you enjoy getting your blood sucked out by those pests. So you hate them. But how do you defend against them? I was at the supermarket just that day and I saw some sonic wave thingies being sold. Just plug them in and they are supposed to emit irritating sounds that will keep mosquitoes away from you. I almost bought one if I had been utterly convinced that it works. Now I am in my aircon room and getting all bitten. I half regret not buying one of those. What tricks do you have against this mortal enemy? That sonic thingy? Some plants? Mosquito coil? Mosquito net? Blood trap? Brood of lizards? Do share and save poor wizzy! =P | | Do you hate mosquitoes? | | | | |

| | LOL my Lord. I don't necessarily hate them, but I would prefer that they leave me alone hehehehe We're lucky in here in that all windows have screens so there aren't many mosquitoes coming in, but when I go camping I could go on a raging massacre of them mosquitoes LOL I mean all living things have a right to leave but not using my blood :) I had one of those sonic wave thingies in my site when we had our trailer. I wasn't too impressed, but maybe it was only me. SInce I don't really have mosquitoes inside that much, my counterstrike plans are usually citronella candles that seem to work even better than the sonic thing. Now for indoors I'm not really sure. Although the lizzards seem like a good idea if one can stand them. I remembered when we lived in Brazil there were some on the walls and ceiling and they were see trough. They used to eat most mosquitoes though but I didn't like the thought of going to sleep with those things loose in my room. Maybe if the lizards can be caged? Maybe not too good for lizard's rights, but sure a peace of mind for me LOL | | | | | | |

| | Exactly! Don't mosquitoes know the policy of "Live and let live"? :P I had a lizard poking around in my room the day I wrote this discussion. Its presence can only mean one thing - it has found prey! And indeed I got bitten. I need to dock its pay. | | | |

| | If you take a vitamin B complex you wont get bitten anymore. I've been taking this now for 10 years or better. Ever since I read up on the B complex, the mosquitos, hate the smell of it..try it you'll see no bites...Lori | | | | | | |

| | You know, I always have this impression that Singapore is free of those pestering mosquitoes.:P Mosquitoes are a no-no to me. They are one of the sources that triggered my allergy. I have screens installed on my windows and doors. I also make sure that my house is always squeaky clean. I don't find that sonic thingy you mentioned effective in repelling the mosquitoes. A friend suggested using a perfumed incense sticks. You can choose the citronella or citrus scent and my friend swore by its effectiveness in driving away mosquitoes. | | | | | | |

| | You are actually quite wrong. In fact, we have a "species" of mosquitoes called "commando mosquitoes". This is the informal term we army guys give it. All of us have our basic training in an island off Singapore called Pulau Tekong. You know the army fatigue we wear, the material is quite tough. Yet despite our clothings providing such a strong "shield", we still get bitten. That's why we call those mosquitoes informally "commando mosquitoes". I doubt mosquitoes and cleanliness have any connection, do they? | | | |

| | No actually they have nothing in common at all.. Mosquitos are in damp places they love the humidity & the water. They have to have water to multiply.. You can get this book from the library it has any & all you ever wanted to know about the mosquito, including eradication,etc..Lori This NEW AMCA bulletin contains 20 chapters on popolation dynamics, semiochemicals, molecular genetics, transgenic technologies, methoprene, modeling, recombinant technology, and federal, state and international regulations governing the use of biorational control agents. | | That was what I thought. If there is no water lying around, mosquitoes don't particularly favor dirty places. | | | |

| | *raising and waving both hands franticly* I hate mosquitos!! I am not convinced about those sonic thingies either which is why i have not bought any What I use is real easy to get ahold of and it works Either an Avon product called skin so soft (comes in a pump spray bottle just spray on and go) or a product by the OFF company called Off Skintastic Both work great AND the make your skin really soft | | | | | | |

| | But I really wouldn't want to spray anything on myself. If I am camping, that is arguably acceptable since it is part of the experience (lol) but if I am at home, I would want to remain clean - meaning, free of any helpful sprays too.:P | | | |

| | I really, really, really dislike mosquitos (I would say hate, but my husband hates it when I use the word hate ;P ) Those things eat me alive. We some out now and we are not sure where they are coming from because our neighbor has actually kept her pool clean this winter. I usually just rub anti-itch cream on after I get bit. I have used those cinterlla (sp) candles - they're okay. I heard that the B complex works extremely well, but I am not very good at taking pills. I also heard if you eat a lot of garlic they will leave you alone, but every one else will probably leave you alone too! | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I hate mosquitoes and fortunately it isn't the time for them here, still too cold.. But I did have a lot of home remedies I use, you can pick or choose which works best.. 1. eat a lot of garlic, mosquitoes hate garlic in their blood..lol 2. Avons skin so soft, both lotion and oil repels mosquitoes 3. Used fabric softener sheets. Just tie one around your belt loop or any other place you can tie one 4. for the outdoors, if you can. start a fire, they hate smoke and if you can stand it, get the smoky smell on you, they don't like it.. | | | | | | |

| | Haha... everybody's answer to this will be "I Hate Them Toooo"... If mosquito was a pet animal... oops pet insect, then the chances were more that ppl loved it. LoL I hate them too. but luckily no mosquitoes in my house... A clean house u know ;) But during summer, sometimes there are mosquitoes. We use the mosquito net or the spray to get rid of them :) | | | | | | |

| | Hey i was just kidding! I know what your discussion meant. Good post! Well, it did grab my attention towards the topic ;) Well as i said earlier, in case there are mosquitoes during summer, then i use the mosquito net, or sometimes we use the spray to chase them away. Well, the humming sound that they do close to the ear is the worst thing! I hate them!!! | | | |

| | I loathe mosquitoes. The best way I find to repel them, (bearing in mind we only have little ones in my country), is to burn citronella candles. They will deter them. To keep them off your actual body, prepare your own herbal repellent, which you can rub on your skin, by mixing together 2 ounces witch hazel extract and 60 drops citronella essential for a 5% dilution, or 2 ounces witch hazel extract and 120 drops citronella for a 10% dilution. I guess the stronger one would be better for you. Brightest Blessings. | | | | | | |
