Cotton Yarn?

If you work with cotton yarn, where do you get yours?
WalMart has a very limited choice of colors in the larger cones, and it's not worth buying the small balls because you'd have to buy several to make much of anything.
I've looked online and the price isn't much better and the shipping fees are atrocious.
I don't know how much of a selection my local Jo-Ann and Hobby Lobby have, but I have coupons so was going to check it out. Just wondering if it's worth the trip to town if they don't have many color choices.

No, I don't work with cotton yarn. I do know though that Hobby Lobby has aisles upon asiles of different types of yarns. If I would suggest anything, I would suggest checking with them. And since you said, you have coupons for there anyways, if they don't have what you looking for, you can make a good deal on something else.

Yea, I might go have a look.
I've got coupons for 40% off any one regular priced item, so I could get one for a decent price if I find a color I like.
Problem is I have this in my head and want to get my 'fix' NOW ...

You've probably already been there and spent your coupons by now, but Hobby Lobby is an addicts worst temptation. I got a kit to antique lamps and stuff there which I used on my bicycle. WOW! It looked like I was riding some fabulous snake. Yeah, I agree with Chey, it's not likely you'll come out of there empty handed!

I use cotton yarn for dishcloths, hand towels for the kitchen and facecloths. Unless you buy a specialty yarn, most cotton yarn is very limited in colors - white or off white for the most part. Sugar'n'Cream has the variegated colors, but as you said, having to buy so many balls makes is rather expensive. Lion's Brand yarn has some cotton with a couple more solid colors, but none of it's cheap. Have you thought about dying your own?

I have thought about dying my own! Maybe the stuff I made my scarves out of was not cotton yarn? I could have been looking for cotton since I don't like using anything with polyester. I could have given up and just got something else.
I haven't been doing much crocheting lately. I am working on a project with handmade dolls. I've been improving on the pattern for awhile now and the material is pretty expensive to then be unhappy with the pattern, so I decided to use old white sheets and dye them with onion skins which is a beautiful creamy tan color, like old lace.
Do you knit your hand towels or crochet them? Are you talking about making the whole towel or just crocheting little frills on them? I'm having a hard time picturing a knitted hand towel, or even a crocheted one!

I have not had to purchase yarn for many years now. A few of the moms and grandmothers of our girls in our girl scout troop donated their left overs. It was amazing how much was donated when we told people we were needing some yarn. The girls have used a great deal of the yarn over the past 10 years for their crafts. Every time we start to get low on our supply, another mom donates some more.

I gave away a lot of smaller bits of yarn too, and now I wish I hadn't. I'm making little balls for the kitties to play with and that would sure use up all those little scraps!

Hi ya!
I recently went to A.C. Moore for the first time for me. It is not that near, but closer than any Walmart would be (which I've never been to; too far away).
And I loved it. Great prices, and big variety. I bought cotton baby yarn, since that's waht i am working on now (a baby blanket).
Otherwise, I have gone to Jo-Ann's and Michael's, which have plenty of yarn. My last choice, but the only very nearby place is a local in-town general Ben Franklin's store. Everything is about $2 more for a skein than it is in any of the previously mentioned rolls. But since I ran out of pink, I may just go there soon to get one more roll.

I'm going to check out Hobby Lobby as I'm told they have a pretty good selection.
I printed off a coupon last week for 50% off any one item, but it was only good for that week. This week's coupon is for frames, and I don't need any of that.
I think they have that coupon often so I'm going to keep looking and time my trip to town for that same time.

I had crocheted a bunch of neck scarves with hoods for my female family members one year. I couldn't find a pattern so I 'tried' to make one up. The yarn I got was cotton yarn and I think it was from Walmart. Either that or Jo-Ann or something. I made the scarves WAY too long (which I had to buy tons of yarn to do!), I didn't get the pattern right because there was a point on top that looked ridiculous. They were heavy, bulky, scratchy, and an absolute flop.
I think I'll do some research on yarn, I seem to remember some company that was bragging about the natural methods they used for dying their yarn and I remember really liking the colors, and the yarn was very fine. If I come up with anything I guess I'll come back here and post it.
Anyway, both Jo-Ann and Hobby Lobby are pretty well-stocked. I was working with the remainder of a bolt of very unusual green satin fabric and matched it with thread EXACTLY at Jo-Ann.

I accompanied my hubby's aunt to A.C. Moore and Michaels yesterday. They got a lot of stock of yarns but I don't know if they got what you wanted. I was more interested in the painting books though, that's way I wasn't paying attention. DO you have that stores there?

No, not where I'm living now. I used to frequent Michael's, but when I lived elsewhere, though.
We do have Jo Ann's and Hobby Lobby. I've been trying to come up with a reason to go to town today so that I could go there, but I really can't justify it.
It's snowing now and we're going to get 6-12 inches by tomorrow evening, so I'm just going to sit tight for a few days.
