I'm playing in a concert tomorrow night! |
|
Hi Friends, Just wanted to let you know that I am playing in a symphony orchestra tomorrow night. Very big hall, which fits a few thousand. And it is a very challenging, but great program. We also have a very talented piano soloist performing in one of the pieces (Tchaikovsky concerto).
I play violin, and am playing in the Violin 1 section. It should be great, but it's knocking me out a bit still. This week with 3 three hour rehearsals (including tomorrow!), and then the concert in the evening.
Any of you go to classical concerts?:o)

Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Thanks Nancy! I just got back from morning rehearsal. You definitely have to go to some concerts, but you have to research to see what orchestras are really good, and what pieces you are moved by.
I could go to 100 cocnerts that bore me away. But lots I could just sit and listen to, rewind (if it was possible) and hear again and again.:o)

tarheelnancy (1334) | 2 years ago | Just checking in to see how your concert went. I hope you had a wonderful time and the audience loved you!

|
Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Hi Nance hun, Yes, it went wonderfully. I posted about it already. I think it was titled something like, "Concert spectacular" At least it had those two words in it. Enjoy. Thanks for asking. I hope your throat feels fresh and proud with the smoke free burrows!:o)

2. joyce959 (1279) | 2 years ago | Wow! You are talented, to be part of an orchestra. I have not yet been to classical concerts, but hope someday I can go and watch. But I like listening to classical music sometimes on CD. I had watched a female violinist who was featured in a tv show or news, she's the lead performer in an orchestra and I was amazed on how she played the violin with much vigor and emotion.
Anyway congratulations to you and goodluck on your concert.
| |
| |
|
|
Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Thanks, Joyce! To be in an orchestra, you don't have to be talented. I have a friend, who is the mother of a professional violist. She started the violin a couple years ago and loves it. She joined an orchestra. I know, also as she asked me to coach her quartet (all members in the orchestra) who are mediocre level. But it is an orchestra for people their level.
I am in a more advanced level violin. But I also sometimes take off seasons of if I do not like the pieces are performing.;o)
You have to make sure you don't go to a concert where the music is boring, of you'll be turned off from classical. If you go to a great one, you'll love it. That's why it is too stereotyped.:o)
Thanks for your warm words.

3. wolfie34 (13885) | 2 years ago | I just wanted to drop by to wish you the very best of luck, and I am deep in admiration for you, wow! that is impressive. I wish I could play a musical instrument but I just don't have the acumen, guess it stems from being hopeless and tone deaf. I am a philistine when it comes to the art, I love going to see the Nutcracker my absolute favourite but not a classical concert, out of my league xxx
| |
| |
|
|
Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Hey Honey Bunches of Oats, Thanks so much for your kind words. Oh, how cute that you go to the Nutcracker regularly. Nostalgia! I was so happy to hear from you too. Thanks.
Like I noted above, classical cocnerts, too many people are turned away from it, only because classical music is too stereotyped. It's actually like "Oldies, New, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, etc. etc. etc.". That much in variations of the types of music that are performed. So, when you go to your first cocnert, go to the one that you know the type of music, so you are moved by it.
Hugs!

4. Sissygrl (5760) | 2 years ago | I have never been but good luck to you loen;) I can't imagine being able to play a violin, it looks very hard and i bet it took you a lot of years to learn to paly well enough to be in a conerto!! Best wishes and good luck again!! Let us know how it goes;)
| |
| |
|
|
Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Thanks Siss! Yes, I started the violin when I was 4 years old! (But we actually have a video of me, and it's pathetically, and really cute and ditsy, of me giving a little concert, and I loosen my bow intil it falls apart. My mum runs onto stage to help out).
Thank you, and yes, I'll let you go.:o)

5. carolbee (6756) | 2 years ago | Congratulations and good luck. How exciting for you to play violin in a concert. We don't and haven't gone to any classical concerts. It's strange because my dad played the bass fiddle for many years and someone would like I'd like the music. My dad played in the symphony in our big city for a few years and with a band. He was great but unfortunately I didn't pick up the talent or the drive to learn. Classical music is beautiful. My husband is not the kind of man who would spend his free time at a concert.
Again, much success and hope it goes well tonight, carolbee

Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Hi hun! Thanks. And that's great that your past generations played music. Music makes up so much of our lives.
I just had a random thought pop into my head (hee hee). I wonder, assuming already there are many otherliving creatttttures, I wonder what kind of music they listen to!
Back to the subject...;o) ... You should go to at least one or two classical concerts, but ones that move you.
We have a friend who didn't listen to classical music before, whose looking fwd to come and listen tonight!:o) Thank you.

carolbee (6756) | 2 years ago | I would go listen to a classical conert but my husband has no interest. He'd rather go watch a sporting event. I come from a very musical family but somehow it got away from me and I excelled in sports. Both my parents were in show business. My brother and I neither had any interest in music although I love to listen to it.

Loen210 (574) | 7 months ago | Hi ya Carolbee! I was just peeking at my old started postings (not many!). Have you gone to any classical concerts since your posting a year ago? I sure hope so. Don't depend on hubby to wang to go. I'm sure your parents would also be happy for you to go. It's often harder to get men to want to go, esp. if they're sports addicts. Just go by yourself. My mother has gone to more and more on her own and loves it. You have to go to several also. Some you might hate, others love.:o)
I don't know if you'll be notified I posted an nother response to this, but we'll see. I don't know if there's a way to make it so they tell me if you respond again. I can't figure it out, because I don't get notices when it's a second reply, when I wish it did!

|
carolbee (6756) | 7 months ago | Good to hear from you again. Nope, I haven't gone to any concerts this past year. You should get a notification for this response as long as your email notification is clicked. I get them for each and every response to my discussions.

|
Loen210 (574) | 7 months ago | Hiya Carolbee, See, again, I didn't receive notice about your reply. I've been so busy, barely got to come on MyLot until now, but decided to check my old postings. And I made sure I had settings marked as you noted. But I have always had every single box checked: subscribe to myLot digest email me when someone responds to my discussions email me when someone comments on my response email me when someone sends me a friend request email me when I receive a new referral email me when myLot sends me an alert email me when I am awarded a best response email me when someone accepts my friendship request email me when I receive a private message
But as always, I didn't receive notification/email that you reposted. I only get notice on the first response you posted to me.
Thanks! Looking fwd to catching up a bit with you this summer.:o)

carolbee (6756) | 7 months ago | Hi Loen,
You should be receiving all email notifications if you have the box checked. Try rebooting your computer. If that doesn't work, you might contact myLot. Not sure what to tell you.
Take care, carolbee

Have a great time!!

Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Oh Dragon, Thank you. I did have a great, but tiring night! I will have to update you guys in a discussion. It went spectacularly.
Aww, I hope you can overcome the anxiety. Stage fright can be worked on. I have had students who've had stage fright, but gradually improved steadily.:o)

9. KarenO52 (2547) | 2 years ago | I love classical concerts, and I've been to several. That is so cool that you play violin, and in an orchestra. Violin and cello are my favorite orchestra instruments. It's been a while since I've been to a classical concert, and your discussion reminded me of how much I'd love to go again, It's long overdue. I'll have to look around and see what's coming up around here.

Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Oh how nice to hear!:o) I hope you attend a wonderful one that keeps up your love for them. They vary so much. Can go to one that I love, and then another that I think was not good at all, which would turn me off. That's why for thsoe who say they don't like classical music, I know and bet they haven't experienced enough or the right kinds.
Thanks for replying, Karen

Loen210 (574) | 7 months ago | Heya Karen, I was just rechecking my old old posting. I've played in many concerts since. And so...have you gone to any since you replied noting that you are going to finally go to one?:o)

|
|
KarenO52 (2547) | 7 months ago | I haven't had a chance to go to a classical concert, but I've been to a few rock concerts. This weekend I'll be going to Columbus Ohio for Comfest, which is a free community event in a park. There will be stages set up all over the park with different kinds of music playing at the different stages throughout the weekend. I'm sure there will be some classical presentations that I'll finally be able to catch.
