Would You Read A Book In Digital Format?  

Over 90% of what I read is digital. I read on my Palm PDA and love it. I always have 20 or 30 books to choose from and they slip right into my pocket. I don't need another bookcase or space to buy more books and boxes to pack them up when I move.

It is better for the ecology...I see no reason to stay with paper books

I'd rather read a real book. There is nothing I like better that turning the pages of a good book. Plus, if I read online for too long, I get a headache.

I would probably print it out and then read it. I like to read on the couch with my blankie or in the bed with my hubby. I even read in the tub! I like to light a nice smelling candle in there and fix myself a nice glass of wine and settle in for a soak with a good book. Ha now I want to go take a bath! LOL

oh i love the physical reality of reading a book but also have read e.books, i think they are a positive step forward

I was thinking about you today. I haven't seen a post from you for a few days, and here you are. I am not a fan of e books. I much prefer the real thing. I have also never seen an e book that told me concisely what it is that I want to find out. Most of them seem to be additional sales materiel for something else. But perhaps I am jaundiced because almost all the big internet sales scams that I have ever seem to revolve around paying $40 for something that isn't worth the paper that you bought that printed it. Having written all that I suspect that you are really talking about proper books. Amazon have produced something called the Kindle that allows you to download your books and read them on screen. A sort of literary iPod. Personally, whilst I like the idea of having every book in the Universe in my pocket; I still prefer to have the real thing. Sorry about the diatribe earlier.

E-books are the future, unfortunately for the nostalgic ones...

We will tell our grandchildren about the pleasure of reading a paper book, and we will take out a dusty thing from the cabinet and show it to them...and they would just not understand how such a blunt thing could be made and why this waste of material instead of 10Mb of words packed digitally and very handy.

We have to adapt...it's not that bad, provided you have a good screen to read on, with no negeative effects on your sight...

I would never like to read my favourite book on a laptop or pc screen. I find it very tiring and I don't enjoy reading like that. If it's something to do with my work and I have no choise I can bare with it but I print everythig I can to read it on the paper.

I love reading, and while I will get my news and information from the computer, when I want to read a few pages before going to sleep, I don't want to lug a laptop into the bedroom. Not to mention that when the power goes out, I want to still be able to have reading to fall back on, but with something that has to be plugged up or charged, I would only have a limited amount of time to be able to read. I think that too many people still prefer to have hardcopies of books for them to go completely digital, at least anytime soon.

I will read the digital books, but I prefer the book itself. I am like you I like to cozy up with my hot drink and flip the pages with my fingers.

Hi there gtargirl, by no means would I want to read a book on the computer. I have a lamp that overlooks my bed and I love curling up on my bed and reading myself to sleep. I can spend hours reading this way. I have a push button switch affixed to my bed so that when I want to read I just push the button..and push it again when I am ready to go to sleep. I love to read a real book.
