When I was just a kid, say like 7 years old..I was watching a telethon for muscular dystrophy, I believe..anyway the number they wanted you to call was 435-3221..They would sing it instead of saying it...It went like this..435-3221, 435-3221, won't you please call that number, 435-3221...Does anyone remember that number or any number for a telethon? It was a pretty catchy tune, and it has stuck with me all these years..
Do you watch telethons and do you donate to any?

My TV's been on-the-blink, so I haven't watched much of anything except when I happen to be somewhere around a TV. But I do watch telethons. Not everyone everytime, but some here and there.
And I do give.
It's great being out during Labor Day Weekend and putting money for Jerry's Kids in the boot of a firefighter.
When it comes to phone numbers, I remember different ones belonging to a few friends, relatives, and boyfriends
One of the most interesting belonged to Aunt Ruby when Markleville was still on the crank the phone for the operator, and she will ring the number for you system.
The number was "five, nine, ring six."
That was what you would ask for.
And Markleville used to be long-distance from Anderson.
My paternal grandparents got their phone service through Bowling Green, KY even though they lived closer to Richardsville, KY.
In the area, people could simply dial them and they could dial people back.
But my folks gave me a sheet of paper with instructions on it so I could make phone calls down there all by myself--under their supervision, of course, as it was a long-distance call.
When the operator answered, I would say:
"I want to talk to Bowling Green, Kentucky to the Chester Phillips residence. Their number is Victor two oh five five nine. Our number is six, four, two, two, nine, six, two."
Before the 6 4 prefix was added (for people living in or around Anderson, Indiana), our phone number had five digits: 2, 2, 9, 6, 2
Aunt Kate and Uncle Don had four digits: 7, 5, 2, 0, so they had 6 4 4 added when the number became larger.
Then, area codes were added. Ours was 317.
It's now 765 with only Indianapolis and some of its surrounding area keeping 317.
Phone numbers are interesting!

I remember watching the telethons and even donating to them. My mother watched them too. She loved calling and even got to speak to one of the celebrities. That was cool.

Telethons are a big thing in New Zealand and are done for worthy charity causes. We would always donate even if it was a small contribution.

There is a telethon yearly here in Saskatchewan. It's called Telemiracle - its been going on 33 years. The money raised goes to help a wide vareity of people in need within Saskatchewan. Its used to help individuals access health care and equipment not normally covered under the health care system...eases financial burden on families who have to travel out of province to receive the care..hospitals to obtain new lifts and other equipment.
I not only donate money to the cause but i donate time. I have for years. I also know people that this cause has helped out. This year in march the telethon raised $ 3,802,308. Telemiracle is a 20 hour live television telethon (has national stars that come to perform as well as local to saskatchewan talent) and it takes approximately 1200 Kinsmen & Kinettes and 150 production volunteers to make Telemiracle run. A couple years ago Telemiracle raised 5.6 million in the 20 hours.
