You Have Been Bought A Box Of Gorgeous & Expensive Chocolates, Would You......

A) Share them with your family? Or
B) Hide them and keep them to yourself?
The reason I ask this is because I was bought a gorgeous box of chocolates that were expensive, I am from England and they were £20.00! Which in dollars I think is roughly $30 or so dollars or more, not too sure on currency. Now I had every intention of sharing these as I am not selfish ever, but when I looked at these chocolates and then thought about my husband who bless him cannot just have one, but has to have 3 or 4 in one go, and then my 4 kids who would have to have at least 2 at a time and then they would spit them out because they didnt like them, because they are very rich, I thought no these chocolates are to be savoured and enjoyed. So I put them right to the back of the fridge, and everyone has forgotten about them, and when everyone goes to bed or out of the house I have one and I enjoy it so much because its just a little bit selfish and naughty and they taste all that much better! So, what would you do?

I would probably share just a little & then stash them away...maybe you could get your hubby & kids different chocolate instead?

Yes I did today! So I now have no reasons to feel guilty, not that I did, really!

I don't mind sharing. I am good at setting boundaries too. Perhaps you should let your husband pick one or two (or hand them to him) and do the same with your children and then hide them very stategically.

Usually I'm a sharer... but when it comes to chocolate, I can be kind of selfish! I would definitely give my husband one, but probably not more than that. He doesn't really appreciate the difference between fine chocolate and the cheap stuff anyway, so it would just be wasted on him!
I would try to make them last a bit, and sneak one every once in a while.

See now I feel a bit better,I was feeling a little guilty! Everyone is in bed in my house as I am in Uk and it is 23.53pm and so I have just sneaked one and it was sooo nice and these are fine chocolates, the kind you have to sit and take notice of, not just wolf it down. My husband would just eat them like you would eat a bag of crisps!

No question. I would hide them and keep them for myself. Because the box would go quickly if I shared them and the people in my family would definitely not just have one. So late at night when people are asleep I would go down and get just one out of the box and take my time eating it. Savoring the taste and loving it.

This is exactly what I have done! I wait until they all go to bed and have just one to enjoy, just hope it does not pile up on my waistline.

WOW If I got a $20 box of chocolates I would definitely let my husband have a taste but then they would be all mine!!! He just would not appreciate the quality!

Well maybe I should let him have one, but I will have to pick it for him, because he would just eat loads, he is terrible like that, I get really annoyed with him at times because he cannot just have one of anything he always has to have the most!

If you asked me this question 5 years ago, then my aswer is to keep it to myself. But now, having matured a bit, theres nothing more satisfying than seeing someone you love, maybe your niece or your daughter or younger brothers or sisters gorge on something that might be expensive but ultimately delicious. For me, nothing compares to seeing those dirty but happy faces smile at you.

Heck Rose, no I would not share them with anybody, not even my son. OK maybe after I have had my fill of them and a few are left, I may ask my son for a look and a piece but that’s all. I don’t even feel like sharing an ordinary bar with him on most occasions and a bag of the expensive ones! No way! It would put the greedy, selfish, foodie in me to shame. And believe me darling, being naughty and selfish and sly can be very enjoyable at times. And just when you take one out and savour it slowly in complete peace and abandonment, doesn’t a satisfied smile come to your lips? Same happens tome too and I laugh to myself. Its my own little secret. .

You are on the same wavelength as me, I love it!! I was just thinking that there are a few of them that I dont like, I might let them have them! Oh it is so much bliss to know you are enjoying something and no one else knows about it, yes the satisfied smile was there, and it was very enjoyable.

Just for your information, £20 is around $39-$40, my friend. They were expensive chocolates, so I think in this case, I would have restricted my family to one chocolate each, and kept the rest to myself. Children don't appreciate good chocolates anyway... it's not what they're used to!
Ok... maybe let hubby have two, but I don't think you're selfish wanting to keep them for yourself. After all, they were a gift to you, weren't they?
Brightest Blessings and happy munching!

I have had some great responses to this, most are on my side but there were one or two who think I am mean and selfish
Thanks for the heads up on the currency thing I am not very good with anything like that and so I knew I would be wrong.

I would hide the chocolates since they are expensive and well take them out in the amount of the people who are there if it is a special event. So if there are four people including myself, I will bring out four chocolates, and if one cannot eat chocolates, I will sneak the left over one back to the hiding place. I love chocolates and I have to have someone put that left over away, though because I would eat it. And if I am the only one in charge of the chocolates, and I will say to myself "you will get fat if you eat it."
I have to make sure there is a good hiding place. But I am getting better. I have not touched those squares I made for Christmas yet.

Yes that sounds very sensible to me, and yes I keep thinking now about the fact that I am going to put weight on if I eat them all to myself, which I guess would be punishment for being selfish. So if I were to share them sensibly as you would do then that limits the amount of calories I would eat. I think I am going to have to think a bit more carefully about this!

Well since I did buy them for me, I might just keep it that way LOL but then again my son and hubby would sniff out any chocolate or sweets in our house and it wouldn't even last half a day in the fridge :)

Yes I think I will be able to enjoy them with or without them! They wont get left out though I will let the kids play with the box after! No Im only joking, I bought them all packs of their favourite sweets today so they would rather have them than chocolates that they wont like anyway!

Ooh ooh, I am happy and proud for you to keep the chocolates to yourself for a special treat. I bet you deserve it too. Yes, now and then you deserve a treat like that. Especially with such a big family, just sharing a little bit would have your whoel gift taken away. The guilt is okay.
Sharing is always nice, but hey, when your hubby treats himself to a milkshake, or beter, a manly sweater, or a sturdy hammer, does he share them with you??
Have your children treated themselves to a fun kids' treat candy, or whole new dress or tuxedo/suit, and shared it with you? I don't think so! Hee hee. Enjoy!

I would share them with my family but I am like your husband as far as I could not eat just one. I would tell my kids that they might not like the chocolates so if they eat one and dont like it too bad they still have to eat it anyway.

I would love to hide them and eat them all myself.I know though that I would share them with my husband or the guilt would make them taste bad.I would wait until the kids were in bed though and make it our special treat.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea, I would not feel guilty for not sharing them, I am always buying him his favourite little treats so he does not get left out, same as the kids they are always getting treats.

I'd share them. I would expect them to do the same and I'm sure they would. Expensive choclates are something so rare to us that I'd just have to share. I'd feel too guilty doing otherwise. Also I'm not much of a sweets person. I am not saying that you are wrong....Im just saying what I would do.

I totally respect your opinion, thats why I asked the question, I just wanted to know what everyone would do. There are lots of things that I could not do without sharing with my lot, I too would feel guilty, I guess with this one I may just be feeling a bit rebellious for a change!

I wouldn't feel guilty you did try to share in the first place!
Well if it was me, I'm actually allergic to dairy so I can't eat most chocolate so I wold have to share without having any!
However if someone bought me expensive dairy-free chocolates, I wold be greedy and eat them all just on the excuse that I don't get to eat chocolate normally! :)

Thats really terrible I would hate it if I was allergic to dairy products. Can you get dairy free chocs then? Are they any good?
