Will you go to work sick. |
| |
| Ok here is a question, I have to wonder if I am the only one who feels like they have to work sick. I had to work sick today, man do I feel iky. I hate when I have to do this, but with my job, there just is no one to take my place when I get sick. We have a real skeleton crew at the Pub. You can sometimes find someone to cover the night shifts, but it is next to impossible to cover the day shift. Of course I work day shifts, they are not too busy. but still I hate that I have no choices. So off to work I went, feeling better then yesterday, but as the day went on, I just felt worse and worse. Do you have to work sick? If you do, is more because of needing the money, or is it because like me there just is not the staff to cover your shift? | | | | | |

| | For more than 22 years I worked from my home for AOL. I never took a sick day in all that time. Most of the time I was merely blah sick, but on several occasions that I can recell, I was REALLY sick with the flu. If you've had the flu, you know the ache-all-over feeling. I never called in sick mainly because the work would still be there when I returned, which would make me sicker. So, I continued to produce. Definitely not as well as I would have had on a day when I wasn't sick, but I managed to pare my workload down some. Memo to self: Take a pill. A big one! (C) 2008 RJScott | | | | | | |

| | I worked at a pub until I injured my leg so badly, I just can't stand for seven hours any more. However, if I was "sick" sick, then the Landlord and Landlady would cover me, if they couldn't get staff in. Neither they, nor the customers will thank you if they catch your bug. So, in that light, I would stay off. Nothing to do with the money, just my health and the health of those that I serve. Get well soon... Brightest Blessings. | | | | | | |

| | I know what you mean Darkwing, but the owners here do not work, in house. They do the catering, but would never cover a server or cook shift. they will let you work sick and not batt a eye. My only hope is that I am past the contagiouse part. I hate working knowing I could be spreading the germ around. I do wash my hands often, so I can only hope that was enough. | | | |

| | Well,I work for myself,so I suppose its different as I can schedule work accordingly. I would not go to work sick if I thought there was a chance that others could get sick because of my being at work. I think there are levels of sickness.I worked some days last year with a bllod clot, and taking Warfarin which made me feel rotten | | | | | | |

| | Well if it had been yesterday, I do not think I could of done it, I was that sick. But last nite, I was able to keep some food down, felt abit better, thought I would be ok. But as the day went on, I just kept feeling ikier. I would of liked to call someone in, but sadly there just is no one. In fact they asked me to work a double shift, knowing I was sick and not feeling good. I declined of course, and that was because they forgot to cover a shift that this fellow asked off over 3 months ago. Sorry you had to work feeling rotten, no fun at all. | | | |

| | The answer is YES. I have went to the office wrapped up like a mummy from head to toe from a motorcycle accident. I have worked from my laptop while on a morphine drip in the hospital because they brought me a laptop from work and begged me to try and work. I have worked when I've had the flu so bad I could hardly sit up. I'm so glad I finally quit that job and decided to be a stay at home Mom and answer discussions on MyLot with a broken finger instead. LOL | | | | | | |

| | I have worked a lot while beeing ill. I did it because too many people depended on me. It worked well for a long time but then all of a sudden it was impossible and I ended up housebound with M.E. That was no fun at all. Hope you'll feel better tomorrow | | | | | | |

| | I think everyone has at one time or another, in my work I am in close contact w/ my clients so I tell them if I have a cold and let them make the choice, if I'm real sick there is not a chance, I call and cancel | | | | | | |

| | When I worked at the nursing home, I never went there sick, and at most of my other jobs, there was at leaste someone I could call to come in, or the boss would send me home and find someone. This is really the 1st place where I felt I had no option but to go in. | | | |

| | My reasons for working while sick were: #1 the money #1 the people who would be covering for me would not be doing my work the way I do my work (Control Freak Factor) Of my two #1 reasons, CFF was probably the true one for working when absolutely not feeling up to it. I tell myself I won't be doing this in any future job, but the odds are high that I will do the same. | | | | | | |

| | Well for me it is not the CFF, when I was younger I suffered from that more lol. here is is just the way it is. Of course I do not like to loose the money, but if I am really sick. To heck with the money. | | | |

| | Maybe I am workoholic, but I wouldn't work when I am sick. I can work 24/7 when I feel well, but no one can make me working when sick. I think that your body really need rest when sick to recover. Forcing yourself to work can make it worst in the long run. | | | | | | |

| | Well I wish I felt free enough to take the time off, because of course you are right, I worry that I could be spreading the germ around. Also that I am sure if I stayed home I may very well feel better then I do right now, having worked all day. *sigh* I suppose I better get to bed soon, so I do not feel aweful tomorrow as well. | | | |

| | I agree shakeroo. When I first started working many moons ago, you were expected to show up when sick. These days it's not appreciated by your co-workers. And I know I don't like it when I am waited on, or checked out by someone sniffling, hacking or hewing. | | | |

| | To answer your question. Its both. I have to work because I need the money and there is no one to cover my shift, which is second because no one likes to work second shift! I hate it! Try working at a nursing home. :-p | | | | | | |

| | I have worked in a nursing home, did for almost 20 years, I liked the second shift, except when my kids got older I had to change to get with their schedule. but since they use temp pool workers out here, I never worreid about calling in sick, I never did then, didn't want to get the seniors sick. But in the line fo work I am in now, they do not have pool workers, well I think there is some sort of temp service like that, but I know my boss would not use that. | | | |
