What are WE GOING TO DO WITH OUR VHS TAPES?

We have lots of VHS tapes, DV tapes, Slides and old films that we are all going to transfer to DVDs. The tapes that holds old memories are too valuable not to take care of.

I must be one of the lucky one's.
I only have two VHS tapes, there is one I would like to transfer to a dvd.
Most likely will never get it done though, as I do not have a clue of how to do it.

Old VHS tape is great for stringing around the garden to keep out the deer.

Eventually I want to get a VCR/DVD recorder. I would like to transfer my home movies over to the DVD's. I think we will still be able to buy VCR's for awhile yet. I still have 8 track tapes(remember them). I have a factory installed 8 track player in my car and still listen to the tapes, hehe.

do we know HOW long DVDs are going to hold up? My roomie has VHS tapes over 20 yrs old, will a DVD hold up that long?

I suggest you consider keeping them, in a cool dry place....

You can either keep your VHS, and purchase a DVD to go with it, or you can get your VHS transferred to DVD. But, in the stores there are more DVD movies and tapes.

Yes, I can see that everything is going to be more and more DVD. We have hundreds of VHS tapes ... most are movies and a lot of them are TV shows we recorded that we loved to watch. Since we have a VHS recorder and player I suspect that we will be watching these VHS tapes and recording on them for a long time. Every tape I purchase now is a DVD. The only VHS tapes I really see for sale is maybe on ebay. I don't think I will transfer my VHS tapes to DVD. The cost to do this would be too much. I have gradually been replacing our favorite VHS movies with DVD. Believe it or not I still have hundreds of Beta tapes too! We still have our Beta player and recorder. I have not seen a Beta tape for years and years. I have not played them for years and I don't even know if they are still playable!

I sold most of mine on eBay...just a few that were not in condition to be sold, I still have. I do have a VHS/DVD combo, but I never use the tape side.

We have a lot of VHS, but most of them are home movies, not "movie-movies," and we haven't watched them in ages, so I don't think there's a crisis at hand. Although, I was disappointed when we purchased a new television that our old VCR was no longer compatible. I love VHS. In fact, I think I only own two DVDs. (What can I say, I'm not a movie person!:D)

I hate that things go out of style so quickly. It's DVDs now, but soon it'll be Blu-Ray.:D Personally, I'll still be clinging to my VCR and VHS.

I have a few VHS tapes but not many. I rent tapes when I want to watch them. I live in a small house and there isn't a lot of room for extra things. So I just go to the video place and rent and return when I am done watching. So I don't have that problem of what to do with my VHS tapes.
