Shopping for CHRISTMAS gifts in MARCH  |

 I know it sounds crazy. Christmas is still 9 months away. It is still winter here and you might think... "what the heck is she talking about Christmas this early? The fruit cake in the ref has not been touched yet!" LOL.
Well, it's normal to me. I start shopping for Christmas gifts as early as "after New Year's Day". Yup, when people are all taking their time out of shopping. When people are still unwrapping their gifts and some are still receiving gifts.
Why? Because...
1. There are lots of sale all over the place and we are not talking about 50% off... it is always 75% or more on almost all items. I saves me a lot of money.
2. There are less people shopping. I hate crowd that is why it is more convenient to me.
3. There is no line in the cashier. Again, it is more convenient. I hate waiting.
4. It saves me a lot of worries when Christmas comes. Now I only forcus on the food and other stuff for the stockings.
5. I get to relax on Christmas season, when all the people are frantic and crazy and panicking, I am enjoying a day in a Spa. LOL
Well, it sounds really crazy but I do it anyway, and I love it. What do you think? Am I crazy?

2.  luvstochat (6679) | 2 years ago |  I don't do my Christmas shopping until closer to Christmas. I know alot of people start shopping early and some people even have their shopping done by August. Right now I am thinking about mothers day I can't start thinking about Christmas yet.

| oneandonemakesix (24038) | 2 years ago | A lot of people are like you, they thrive on the rush and the crowds, I did almost all of my shopping online for Christmas, my kids sprang on me fairly large gifts this year but somehow I survived....
it was easier to shop when my kid were younger to shop ahead of Christmas, now I don't know what they will like or want at that time.
I think that next year if I can I might swing a Nintendo Wii or a large gift like this for them.....I'm still thinking about it.

I will also shop now for birthdays and such. As for the Christmas shopping I have learned a hard lesson. While I normally shop and put aside gifts. Others wait to the last minute and can't get anything for the people who matter most. it's the holiday about giving. Most people only care about receiving.

The only worry I would have is getting the merchandise early and hiding it from myself. Storing it away and forgetting where!

I usually start with the rest of the family first, and then about August time I find out what the kids are hoping for and start getting their presents too. I have to be careful about getting them too soon as my lot are nosey and would probably find them.

It was about June I think, and it was like 75% off, so I bought it and thought it would make a nice Christmas present, from that point on each time I came across something at a good price I bought it and when Christmas season came I was done, only last minute gifts that came up was all I had to get. It was nice watching the rest rush around trying to find something.Now I think this year when I buy the gift I will also wrap it and it will all be done and I can have a peaceful christmas for once. A lot easier when you can look and pick at good prices than to wait until a month before when they jack the price up on everything.

I don't like to shop when it starts to get that close to Christmas because even though it is close to Christmas people are so rude. So I make sure my Christmas shopping is done before that time of year rolls around. Why enjoy your day in the spa why everyone else is running around trying to buy Christmas presents.---lol

If I had the money and the hiding space I would be shopping for Christmas gifts now as well, only thing is that I really can't afford to do so, while I am earning money from mylot and other sights yes I am saving money and it will be there for Christmas or other things as well if need be, but my main goal is to save for a DSLR....
I did spend 14.00 on 2 movies that we wanted today but other than that I haven't spent the money for much exciting......
Having a goal is a good thing and maybe if I don't see a camera happening by the middle of next year, I might try to get some Christmas shopping done or put money towards a bill or new cell phones or something...

| bdugas (2477) | 2 years ago | Yes money is an issue as we live on a fixed income and so I am always looking for things on markdown or a real bargain. Once in awhile I might see something that i will have to give up getting an extra few dollars of gas and stay home a day or two to get it. As for hiding spaces, my hubby is not one to go looking in sacks or things i put in the closet. My children are grown, last year around november i started wrapping the presents that I had and put them in a clothes basket on the ironing board up out of the way, they nearly drove my grand kids nuts wanting to know who they was for. I had 3 I think at that time for my youngest grand daughter and she looked and said well granny I think you have more shopping to do don't you! I got my son and his g/f a recharable broom that was marked down at K-Mart, a martha stewart item for $20. that sold for $69.95 in other stores, so if you keep and eye out there are some good buys all through the year. | |

| 10. lingli_78 (10206) | 2 years ago |  i don't think that you are crazy at all... i think you are smart... all the reasons that you list above are very valid and i totally agree with you... i mean, you can get the same item for 75% cheaper than original price... why not??? and like you say, you can avoid the crowd and do the shopping in a relax manner... so it saves time and money... i did the same thing like you as well... i bought christmas light for this year in january 2008 when all the lights are on discounts and they are so cheap... well done...

Gives you a chance to get some a little nicer. Last year while i was browsing in a Goodwill store I came across 4 rather large rolls of ribbon and it was 29 cents a roll, I used it this year and have enough for a lot of wrapping next christmas. i am always looking for a bargain. | |
