Do you want your homemade food to look homemade or store bought |
|
My Mom & Aunt went to a St Patrick's parade last weekend and caught a ton of veggies (I am sure this is just a New Orleans thing). We went up with more carrots, onions and potatoes then 3 people could ever eat as well as one cabbage (they actually caught 20). We do not eat cabbage cooked at all, so I made cole slaw to go with our burgers. I know the first thing my hubby is going to say is that the cabbage is thinly sliced, not all chopped up like it would be if you had it from a restaurant. Personally, I live the sliced look because it looks home made.
Do you like your foo d to look like it came out of a pack even if it is home made?

1. lilybug (15200) | 2 years ago | I like my food to look nice, but tt does not need to look like it came from a store pre-made for me. What is more important to me is how the food tastes. I personally do not like most store bought cole slaw. It never has enough flavor for me.

2. enchantedleppard (1338) | 2 years ago | If its homemade then I am all about the taste!! I think taste is more important than appearance and I think theres something special about having something home made versus store bought. I think the catching veggie thing is very New Orleans-- I had never heard of it until this discussion. How fun!

sedel1027 (12402) | 2 years ago | Parade around here are always throwing weird thing LOL I believe fr St Joseph's day they have food parades as well as the ones where the "club" (ie people that hang out and drink) walk down the street and hand out flowers. Looks like they have a lot of fun, but I don't like being kissed by drunk guys.

4. carmelanirel (6313) | 2 years ago | As long as it taste good, it doesn't matter if it looks home made or not to me.. I am sure it was good and making me hungry, I haven't had home made coleslaw in a long time..

sedel1027 (12402) | 2 years ago | We don't eat coleslaw very often because of all the mayo that goes into it. Since we don't eat cabbage, we don't keep it in the house.

5. desertdarlene (5842) | 2 years ago | I like the "homemade" look. But, as like other people have said above me, I really just like to have the food look presentable and taste good. It doesn't matter if it looks different than a restaurant meal to me.

6. jennybianca (5860) | 2 years ago | How do you "catch" veges? I try to get the homemade look with foods. I rarely buy packaged food anyway. I would slice my cabbage finely.

sedel1027 (12402) | 2 years ago | Oh, at the parades they throw veggies off of the floats like they would throw beads & trinkets at Mardi Gras.

7. cblackink (801) | 2 years ago | I think the taste is more important than the appearance, but looking homemade sometimes is better, because it looks fresher and more appealing. And I really don't like the way store bought coleslaw looks anyway, all diced into these tiny pieces. I prefer it shredded in a food processor and I like to be able to taste the individual ingredients, like if you add carrot, I don't want it minced up so small I can't tell it's carrot. Does that make sense? Presentation is important to some degree, but taste and nutrition are more important.

8. oneandonemakesix (24068) | 2 years ago | I woudl prefer that my food looked home made and not pre made, and what a great thing to throw instead of candies, vegetales,
I'm sure the kids didn't love it as much....
I've had stuffed cabbage before, and it turned out really really good....
Alton brown just recently done a segment on cabbage on his Good Eats show,
And while it may be fun to try to fool people about home made looking store bought, I like my food to look home made.

sedel1027 (12402) | 2 years ago | The kids just like having stuff to catch. The vast majority of what they throw is veggies, but they do throw bags of chips and more kid friendly items.
I just can not bring myself to eat a meal of any type of cooked cabbage. The texture doesn't work for me. I always try it though, but I don't like it.

sedel1027 (12402) | 2 years ago | Between the two of us, my husband is a better cook, but I do the vast majority of the cooking. He never complains really, more comments on whatever he thinks is an issue, but he still eats the food. Last night he didn't say much about the coleslaw except that is was really good and he wanted me to make more. Good thing I have a half a cabbage left. LOL
I can't say that when I have ever moved away that I missed New Orleans. I think it is a great place to visit, but I am ready to move away at any time.
