I think most of us have watches. Assuming you have not relegated the role of timekeeper to your mobile phone, you would likely be wearing a watch when you are out of the house.

What is your favorite type of watch? A digital one showing LED digital numbers? Or an analog one that shows an "old-fashioned" clock face?

For me, I prefer the analog one. Maybe I am just an antique myself lol. What about you?

I like a digital watch, although I do not actually use a watch anymore, I usually go off the clocks in the shops I go in or failing that there is not one I use my mobile phone.

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

At least in Singapore, I seldom see clocks anywhere outside!

Lol... definitely they don't display them at shops - they would NOT want you to remember the time and leave! rasp

same here... I still have a casio watch (analogue) from long back. Dun see the use of it as I seldom look at time.

Miaoping (8)   ranked 31,722 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

I also have a Casio watch.I see watch not just for timing, but also a good-looking "jewellery".

The value of Casio has dropped somewhat...

Hi there Wizard, good to see you again.

I own several watches, not one digital though. I find it much easier to read an analog watch, I can make out the hands on the watch face very easily whereas with a digital watch face it always seems hard to make out the figures. I do have a couple of digital clocks in the house but nothing beats the look of my favourite watch. Then again, I'm probably an antique too (hug)

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

Thanks hun. I have been very busy of late. In fact I shouldn't even be here now but I am so fed up with what I was doing so I decided to just abandon it for myLot (for a while rasp).

Perhaps you are more used to the traditional clock face like me. thumbup

Definitely analog watch, I think I'm an 'oldie' too! Not sure about calling yourself an antique (not yet, any way!!!)

I have tried the LED ones, they are not bad but I prefer the 'face' of the analog ones, you can get so many different styles. I even used to have a watch in the shape of a guitar! I used to love having different ones for different occasions. Do you remember the Swatch watches that used to have different colours to go around the face, you had different straps too!

I use my mobile too nowadays, especially when I'm on the beach. My lovely watch would disappear too quickly and I would be heart broken, now the phone, you can always buy another one!

myLot reputation of 98/100. patgalca (6610)   ranked 151 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

Cheaper to buy a new watch than a new phone, I would think.

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

How about antique in the making LOL. rasp

Oh yes, I note too that all those real expensive watches are also the analog type. I don't think those "time pieces" include the digital kind!

Indeed as patgalca pointed out, you can get a watch at a much lower price than a phone (assuming you don't mind going for those dirt cheap kind lol).

Yet then again, why would your watch disappear more easily than the phone? I thought it should be the other way since you would like me wearing the watch. As for the phone, it would just be in your pocket and might just drop out.

I don't wear a watch, I suppose I never really did.

I always felt like they were too confining, too scratchy on my wrist, too annoying to be strapped to time like that..

now i pretty much just use my cell phone for things and keeping track of time. it is easier for me that way :)

i think it is good if you wear a watch to use the analog ones - pretty soon we're all going to forget how to read regular clocks because we've become so dependent on the digital ones!

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

No, no, I feel it is awesome to wear a watch. If you get one you like, you will enjoy wearing it. Makes you look "better" too, hehe! lol

Irritated by the material? Perhaps you can consider watches of materials that you are not sensitive too.

If you however just feel that wearing a watch is restrictive, well, I guess it is your own preference. happy

7. myLot reputation of 95/100. heart143 (635)   ranked 1,890 out of 32,957 in life   4 years ago

It would depend on what clothes I am wearing. If I'm on my jeans and shirt or any rugged attire, I like a digital watch but if I'm on dress or a formal attire I would definitely want an analog watch.

In the house, I still prefer analog clocks but I like my alarm clocks digital because it's easier to see and the ringing alarms are interesting.

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

Attire matching, hehe.

I am a guy so I think it will suffice (unless you are rich) to get a good time piece and hang on to it. lol

I have to wear an analog watch. If I read a digital time I pretty much have to work out in my head what that looks like on a clock face. I don't think it's because we are "antiques", I think it is a matter of what we grew up with and adapting to change. It's like celsius and farenheit, inches and centimeters. Though I learned those in grade school I have adapted to celsius better than metric measures and weights. I still weigh myself in pounds; wouldn't have a clue what the metric conversion would be. Of course having all cars and road signs reading in kilometers, I've had to adapt to that and haven't had difficulty with it.

I think if we are forced to change (like with the speed limits) we can adapt, but when we still have options (analog vs. digital) we choose what we know best. There are more digital clocks around my house than analog (microwave, vehicle, stove, VCR, computer) and am becoming better at "knowing" the time when I see it in digital, I prefer to see it in analog. And, all numbers have to be on the watch (1,2,3,4,5,6...) and no roman numerals either. I don't want to have to study my watch to see what time it is. I should be able to tell with just a glance.

myLot reputation of 98/100. saigonwarrior (779)   ranked 1,129 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

Oh yes, I completely agree. No Roman numerals for
me either, I would have to count out the numbers every
time I looked at my watch. I suppose you would become accustomed to it eventually.

I am the same as you. I was raised in the States and don't ask me what a meter is..lol
I have friends in Europe that say oh, it is so many degrees Celsius here..YIKES! Convert please..lol

I normally just ask my kids.

myLot reputation of 98/100. patgalca (6610)   ranked 151 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

I was raised and live in Canada. We were taught conversion in early grade school so I should be well trained by now. I guess I just never got the hang of it. I am always pulling out my ruler when something is given to me in centimeters to figure it out in inches. With the temperature I am now more familiar with the celsius but only because I can guesstimate what it is in farenheit.

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

Hey hey, I hope you are not suggesting that we are not adaptive to change. I refuse to concur, ha! rasp

I weigh myself in kg since that's what we use here. I find it troublesome when I am asked to give in pounds lol. Just like how I measure my height in meters.

@saigonwarrior: Because we aren't Romans, ha! rasp

myLot reputation of 98/100. patgalca (6610)   ranked 151 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

It's hard to weight myself in kgs. when all our scales here are in pounds still. You'd think they would have changed that. They've changed the odometers in cars, why haven't they changed scales yet? Hmmm...

Thanks for the best response mark!happy

Yes, analog for me.
We have a clock in every room and except for the bedroom (which are digital alarm clocks) all of our clocks are analog. I think if you stop using analog altogether, as you become older you may forget how and they are also nice if you have children at home so they will know how to use analog clocks/watches, also.
Both of my children use analog watches also, their preference not mine.
Also, the clock should not tick! That is why we have digital electric in the bedrooms!

myLot reputation of 98/100. patgalca (6610)   ranked 151 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

My children at 11 and 14 use digital watches and clock radios. They were taught in school at a very early age how to "work it out".

myLot reputation of 96/100. lordwarwizard (10625)   ranked 372 out of 32,957 in life  4 years ago

In fact, for my house, we have both analog and digital ones everywhere. I have 2 digital ones in my room alone, not including the phone's.

But for my watch, I still prefer the analog version. Somehow, seeing the clock face and where the hour hand is seems to give me a better idea of time LOL.

I happen to think analog ones are cooler too, hehe. lol
