How many of you read to your children?  

I read to my children every night. My children love it. I read them each 4-5 books a day. I believe reading is good and encourages them to want to read. My oldest daughter is only 4 and she will try to "read" she can read some words but nothing major.

I read to my girls every night even thoughthe younger one is only 13 months she still acts like she is listening,and I rather not have my children love tv or games more than books,I prefer they play outside and use the imagination,then play a silly video game anyday.Video games are not allowed in my house and never will be,I have seen my nephews get addicted to them and they never go outside and play because of them.My sister never read to her kids either,but I guess to each person has there own way of parenting their kids and who is anyone to judge them as it is a free country.

When they were little I read to them alot starting from when they were newborns actually...i havent in years though but they're too old for that now (both teens)

We read to our kids every night too. My youngest daughter doesn't really sit still yet and listen, but she's only 3. She's usually in the room though when I am reading to her sister. My 5 year old loves to be read to. She is in preschool now and they are starting to learn a few words. I have a feeling when she learns to read she'll read everything she can get her hands on. I think you are right, more parents should read to their kids.

I occassionally read to my child. She is very young at the moment but enjoys it when we read out to her.

i haven't married yet, so i am not a parent. but i think i still can say something about this. my parents never read any book to me when i was a child. i hope they did. :) i will do it when i have children. but fortunately my dad loves reading, and he sets me a good example. now i am very interested in reading. i love it.

yes i use to read to my girls they are now 15 an 13 an they read alot now on thier own but some times like when the happry ptter serries can out we read it aloud to each other an when we were done reading it we would talk about what we thought was going to be in the next book we also read the american girl serries together if anyone out there has daughters I recommends these books an yes even though they are the american girls serries boys can read them to

I may miss a night or two when she is tired but I try to read to my daughter often. When she was a little younger she wouldnt really pay attention but she is at the age now she is constantly bringing me books. I am a firm believer in education starts at an early age so if I can teach her the value of books now then you bet I am going to do so. I wish I knew somewhere I could get some more books for a good price though. I cannot afford to buy them new. I am waiting for the library to do its annual sale. I have found a few at local garage sales though and I jump right on those.

Yes, I have read to all of my daughters and I read to my grandsons when I get the chance. I was told by a teacher that reading to your children at a young age has proven to not only make them have the desire to read but also generally makes them a better student. I believe this, all of my daughters were good students and I have one grandson in the TAG program, one is an honor student, and another is in the top 90% of his class! I am very proud of them!
