 While I'd want to start the free-for-all I had to post this discussion about a recent problem other members have been getting.
Some members are getting downrated because of their opinions or because a small group has nothing but star vandalism on the brain. To experienced members, this is nothing new, and no concrete answers are provided.
Other members have been seeing downratings too, and from the looks of it, "just because".
There are also other members that have gone around helping fellow members with problems (computers, life, cooking, chores, etc)... and some of them have also seen star rating problems.
Long story short, something is going on and it cannot be ignored.
No one can claim the star sham isn't broken.
No one can claim the star sham "reflects 'quality'"
No one can claim the star sham can't be abused
Other claims
Its a giant popularity contest. You make the most "rate-able" posts you'll get more ratings. You post short things and nonsense you'll get more ratings.
Anything to add, just add it.

I think there is a group here who HATES myLot & will do any & everything they can to get people to QUIT myLOt. Newbies & oldies alike IF you like it here don't let the trolls SCARE you out of here. It will soon settle down as it always does after a few dozen cases are deleted. DON'T LET THE TROLLS WIN.STICK IT OUT WITH MYLOT IT'S WORTH IT!!! I think anyway.>Lori

i couldn't have said it any better than what you did! whoo hoo! go away trolls! we are here at Mylot forever and a day, or until Mylot decides to shut it's door's forever...that would be ashame if that ever happens. i am coming up close to my one year anniversary here at Mylot, i think that it is in June sometime. whoo hoo! i love it here at Mylot! there are so many good quality discussions to respond to. and i would sure like to see the newbies stick around a little bit longer here at Mylot so that they could see how fun that Mylot really is. and Mylot does pay their members here when they reach their payout amount.

 oneandonemakesix (24154) | 6 months ago |  I have to say right now that its not just the new users that are getting slammed, its a lot of seasoned users, I can't let the star drama get me down anymore, I spent an extra 2-3 hours yesterday trying to gain lost ground with the posts.
But you know I happen to really see this happen every few months when people get banned and suddenly this happens.
Back around the first of april, someone got banned and said they were seeking revenge on mylot, and since then I have seen stars drops, ratings lost, and in large numbers....
you are right mylot is worth it, but will people stick it out?

I'm one of the new users who have been "abused" by this negative rating as well out of nowhere and all of a sudden. I get very encouraged and feel better now that a lot of friends here just "go with the flow" and don't care about what is going on with the "evil" side. I think all newbies like me and the other veteran users should stick it out in mylot and let's make the most positive out of all these experiences. Good discussion here and definitely good comments from friends. I am truly inspired as a new user..

2.  recycledgoth (6160) | 6 months ago |  Ratings go up and down like a yoyo on here and I feel that too much importance is placed on them. Just lately there have been a lot of cases where people have had discussions deleted, ratings have dropped and people are getting wound up.
For what it's worth I think I have only even negative rated a handful since I joined here over a year ago.

i totally agree with you on what you said in this discussion about quality responses versus a "one liner" response. and then people want to know why that their star rating has fell down so much over night like that? duh. when i respond to a discussion here at Mylot, i always try my best to give my best honest opinion about whatever that the discussion may be about. you know? and btw, is the the free-for-all-discussion for the weekend? or not? got confused about that by what you said at the first of your post.

I'm on a fourth ascension but good grief its a slow grind. I have to say right now that somehow I've so far survived teh star rating bashing, however I have to say I haven't survived the post deletions,
But you are right with your assestment of the star rating, but its too bad mylot doesn't see this as Crash said many times in his first discussion that the star system was not and is not broken.
But everything he says is put into place to not have what is happening has not been excercised, and put to use,
People leave with grudges and come back and take it out on us, whether stars or working to get postings deleted.

Even if we did a non-negative bar system or a "stock market" system... it may still be abused but then people could CLEARLY see that it is being abused (as some members would have abundant amount of bars or ridiculously high stock).
And some people do have their grudges on here (and off) but it can only do so much. It seems like there could be something more to the whole thing. | |

Please, newcomers, don't take it to heart, it's just some infantile trolls who think they're really hurting us. I'm now looking at it this way - the time these trolls spend going through all of someone's posts to negate them, no matter what their reason is for doing so, is wasting time they could be using to increase their own points and earnings. I'm not here for the money, not by a long shot, but what are these trolls here for? To "hurt" someone they don't even actually know by knocking their star rating down? Give me a freakin' break!

I'm rendered speechless too Annie. I should have extended more of a hand to new members in this discussion (and older ones). Low Star Rating is a venting area though designed for the issue we know all too well. I do see how the low stars can discourage newer members. Other members with lower stars aren't trusted as much by newer members (been there plenty of times...) | |

I do know that many people on here take their ratings seriously and it is very sad that people can go around and rate someone negative just because they feel like rating that way that day. I don't know for sure what makes the star rating go down but do feel that if it is because others get to rate our discussions there should be a way to monitor those that are rating negative more than just once or twice. Most discussions on mylot would not deserve a negative rating so if someone were rating that way real often I would have to look into them or have them suspended.

The only other thing that bothers me personally about the stars is that its still not admitted the system is broken. Not quitting though as there's plenty to stay for. | |
