Wesley Snipes received 3 years for his crime of tax evasion. He was charged with other crimes, but those charges were dropped. Is 3 years, which was the max, too much for the crime? I'm think he should received some jail time, but I think three years was a bit much. I think making him pay a fine in addition to repaying the taxes would have been more suitable.

Maybe but you've got to think about how much money he must earn, and so quite how much money he must have been cheating the government of! And in turn he's cheating the citizens of his country - of public services etc. Also, (though I'm not condoning this) the fact that he's famous will mean that his case an be used as a threat, or warning sign, to others doing the same thing. His high priority bringing to light the seriousness of the crime for everyone. I'm not saying I agree necessarily, I'm not really decided - just playing devil's advocate. Do you think he'll actually do 3 years? People tend to only do about half of their initial sentence don't they. And especially with his high profile and the amount of money he can spend on lawyers for appeals etc!

His lawyer has already said he'll appeal. I thinkt he judge is trying to send a message tot he rich and famous. You make a good point about cheating the people of this country.

i cant understand why people think they could run from the IRS. no matter what the issue is the IRS will work with you for you to pay off what you owe. i think that was a stupid move to make you cant be greedy it only leads to destruction. now he has time to think while he's serving his 3 year sentence.

Why didn't he just pay the taxes and be done with it. He wouldn't be going to jail at all if he would have just done what he was supposed to do. I am sure he had the money. As for his sentence? Well if everyone did what he did our country would fold. They might be making an example out of him so others will think twice before the try to evade taxes. Even us poor folk pay what we have to! I am no judge so I would have to rely on the judgement of the one in charge of the case and since the other charges were dropped maybe it was a way of making sure he actually did do his time for his crimes.
