I want to Hear Your Birth Stories! | | Hi all. I am 7 1/2 months pregnant with my first child. I was marveling the other day at church when I spent 45 minutes listening to a group of women each tell me their different childbirth stories. Some were fascinating, others gruesome, but I found them all precious and exceedingly intersting. So, what I want to know is, what's your story? I'd love to hear.

| | | | | | | | 1. mrsfrodotata (1394) | 2 years ago | Wow well here ya go. With my first child I was in labor for 2 days, went in was dialated 7 got the epideral, and another and another, I acctually had three striaght shots of epideral, It still didn't work though, I felt everything. I was pushing and pushing and it was the hardest thing ever, I blacked out about my 5th or sixth push into it and don't remember much, I came to with everyone telling me I had to give it everything I got cause she was stuck, My mom said that everytime I pushed she would start to pop out but go right back in, Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and twisted. She was bright plum purple. A doctor acctually got ontop of me and pushed on my stomache to help push her out cause I just didn't have enough strength left to give a good enough push. But they got her out and got her freed up and her color came back quickly and all was fine. With my other two they were so quick and easy. They were so easy that the doctor even called the time they would be born and she nailed it right on the nose.

| | 2. kezabelle (2671) | 2 years ago | Well I have two children so this might take some time lol!
My first baby I was pretty ill by the end with pre eclampsia so they induced me on her due date and nothing happened, the following morning they started the process again and at about 3.45 I got my first contraction and it was awful so so painful I was examined and was allready 7 cms, so they left me while they got a wheelchair and all my things together by then it was about 4pm and they wheeled me up to the delivery suite I was there about 2 minutes and had to start pushing I spent two hours pushing they had to give me an episiotomy as she was back to back with me but then she turned and was finally born, that was easy compared to what came next in that my daughter was so shocked from the uick labour she wasnt breathing and was rushed to NICU where she spent the first few days of her life before finally coming home.
My second daughter it was even quicker, I was induced two weeks early and soon as labour kicked in I was taken to the delivery suite due to such a quick labour last time and was given some pethidine and the gas and air I started pushing 4.50pm and she was born at 5.05 really quick and easy few stitches but while she also wasnt breathing she came round with some oxygen.
I think I had really easy births compared to some but I enjoyed the second more it was low lights and very quiet just as I wanted with her delivered straight to my tummy infact I pulled her up, I didnt with my first and as such waited nearly 24 hours for a cuddle because I asked for her to be cleaned and she was so poorly she was rushed off. Good luck with your birth and baby xxxx

| | 3. MooPile (1304) | 2 years ago | I've got 3 kids and I had c-sections with all of my children. I didn't want to go through labor plus I am too small.
My c-sections were uneventful. I was awake, but numb. During my last one, my surgeon kept making me laugh (not a good thing when he's got a knife close to your innards) when he told the whole OR a story about a skunk getting him twice as a child. My husband was in the room with me. Our kids were with his mom (their meemaw).
I stayed in the hospital 3 days with each of the c-sections and with my kids. We were discharged on the same day together.
Good luck with your new baby!

| | 4. foxyfire33 (5796) | 2 years ago | I have had 6 babies so I'll try to make them each as brief as possible!
#1- I was 3 days over due. Labor started at 2:45am. We drove to the hospital as the sun came up. It was a relatively easy labor although I was over medicated and don't remember much of it. I pushed for awhile...kept falling asleep in between pushes because of the medication, but then she was born. SIx pounds 6 ounces, 19 inches long. I had no tears so didn't need stitches.
#2- I was 5 days over due. Labor started at 8:05am. My husband rushed home to get me. I again had some medication that made be very sleepy for about 2 hours but when it wore off I didn't want anymore. The labor was manageable so I did the last two hours and the delivery drug-free. He was born at 4:06pm and weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. No tears or stitches this time either.
#3- I was 6 days early but just "knew" it was time. I even went for a walk around the neighborhood while in labor. I waited awhile to go to the hospital and was settling in my room at around 7:30pm. I was talking and feeling fine even at 9:30pm. At 10:00 my nurse checked me and said I'd probably be ready to push in about 1/2 hour and then spend anoth 15-20 minutes pushing. Well at that point my contractions were coming every 2 minutes and just before she checked me she had given me one dose of medication but it hadn't really started working yet. She left and I had another contraction but my doctor walked in at the tail end of it and heard the "head compression" over the monitor...that's a sign the baby's head iscrowning or close to it. S she got her scrubs on and started for get set up when the final contraction hit at 10:04. I pushed and my youngest daughter was officially born at 10:05pm weighingh 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 inces long. Again no tears or stitches!
#4- This one was my only difficult labor. Labor started at 9 pm so I was already tired and hungry (we would eat dinner right after school, then a snack before bed, so I was used to eating again between 9-10pm) but I was under strict orders not to eat once labor started because then I wouldn't be able to have an epidural. Well this labor was slow but painful and we finally went to the hospital at 3:30am. Things just didn't go right from then on...the nurses insisted I wasn't in labor because they couldn't get the contractions to show up on the monitor so they wouldn't call my doctor and were just waiting for her to do her rounds at 8am. I was sick to my stomach and needing to use the bathroom frequently... By the time my doctor arrived the contractions were so bad I couldn't get out of bed yet they still were not showing up on the monitor, I had been awake for almost 26 hours and I was thirsty and weak from not having any food or drink in over 12 hours. She decide to start pitocin but then refused my promised epidural because she thought the pitocin would make me deliver right away...well 5 hours later I was finally ready to push. The baby was not though and had his head turned into my hip so after 20 minutes of painful and unproductive pushing she finall put the vacuum suction on his head and pulled him out. He was fine, 8 pounds 8 ounces 19 1/2 inches long. I was badly bruised inside but nothing torn.
#5- I was 10 days over due because I refused to be induced with pitocin again! This labor was fairly easy up until the last two or three hours. I had been promised an epidural again but the nurse said I wasn't dialated enough and gave me something else instead. When that wore off I knew I was dialated enough and told her I wanted my epidural...she gave me a second dose of the IV meds while I was having a contraction and couldn't stop her. That never really worked but she refused to call in the people to do the epidural until that wore off. And when it did wear off she said she'd have to call my doctor in first...ugh! By the time my doctor got there I was ready to deliver anyway and three pushes later my son was born weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long!
#6- This one was long but extremely easy. I spent the first 17 hours of it at home. Ate and drank as I felt like it. Finally left for the hospital but made him drive slow and make a couple stops so that was another hour. Once we got to the hospital things got a little harder because I was more comfortable sitting up or standing but they would not listen and made me get in bed. It still wasn't horrible though. I never got any medication and just about an hour after arriving my son was born without actively pushing... (I had the need to but my doctor said no because she wasn't ready, he came out anyway!) He was 7 pounds 5 ounces and 18 inches long.
Good luck with your little one!

| | 5. edgyk8inmomma (1230) | 2 years ago | I have four kids, and each birth was extremely different than the last. My first child was breech, with her feet folded up. Shehad dropped with her bum entering the birthing canal. This was my first and I really wanted it to be natural, so I opted to try an external inversion. DO NOT be fooled by the name of this procedure, it is not completely external. Docs had their hands up there and on my belly trying to turn her around. Well, things got complicated and they had to send us to the OR for emergency c-section. This was a very odd experience, being completely numb from my shoulders to my toes. The whole time, the surgeo is talking about his recent fishing trip. As he pulled my daughter from me, he says, "Yup she;s a keeper." My second birth started funny. I was in the hospital with my daughter(she had an asthma attack and was admitted). I was a day past my due date, and when the nurses came in to check on my daughter at 2 am, they bumped my cot. I woke up in a puddle, so they wheeled my down the haul to the maternity ward. I was in labor for 14 hours, 2 1/2 of those consited of pushing. I thought it would never end. I also woke up in the middle of the night, to realize my son was coming. My husband worked the night shift, and had borrowed his boss's cell phone so I could get ahold of him. I went to church and had a normal day, with mild contractions that had been going on for about a week. I woke up at 2 am, to go potty. When I stood up out of bed, my water broke. I tried calling my husband, but got no answer. I had both of the girls with me at home,, and no car. So I called my sister who lived about 20 minutes away. SHe came and got me and the girls and dropped them off with her husband. She got me to the hosptial where we proceeded to try to get ahold of my husband. The hospital was also having trouble tracking down my doctor. I was progressing rather quickly and having a lot of back labor. My husband finally showed up at about 6:30 am...maybe a little closer to 7. At this time we were notified that my doctor's car would not start. It was the end of January in Minnesota. Apparently the battery had frozen. SO I was left with the intern at the hospital. At about 7:30 I was instructed to push. I wanted to, but my body wouldn't participate. I gave it all I could two times, then the doc grabbed his head and pulled him out. He was born at 7:47. My last birth was the most beautiful. My husband was no longer in the picture, I was with a new man who is awesome! He was by my side the entire time. Rubbing me and coaching me. He was so supportive. I was 2 weeks past my due date. We had to drive an hour and some to get to the hospital, where we had scheduled to have the labor induced. They started the petocin at about 7:30 am, broke the water around 9, she was born shortly before 11.

| | 7. patriciaqualls (4604) | 2 years ago | Hi Joann, My first daughter was so easy. I felt a little different that morning at 6 A.M. Had a little bit of cramping but not bad. I called my doctor and he said well I am inducing your labor tomorrow so come on in and we will take a look. I got to the hospital and I was 8 centimeters dialated. I was too late for the epederal. But I didn't really need anything for the pain with her. So she was really easy. My second daughter on the other hand I had an induced labor. That was painful but I got the epideral. When I got to the dr's office and in the room I had asked for the epideral. When the doctor was done with that the nurse said it would be 4 more hours before the baby was due. My ex husband (husband at the time) went downstairs to have a cigarrette and before he could light the cigarrette she was going to be born. It was so fast he almost missed it. Good luck on your newborn!!! And Congradulations!!!

| | 9. everlasting (9961) | 2 years ago | I gave birth thru CS and both have its peculiarity. During my 1st born, my water broke and my son had a fetal distress and since I am not dilating, the ob gyne decided to have a cs on me. My son was separated from other kids because they want to make sure he didn't have any ailment because of that fetal distress.
On my second child, I have a high blood pressure and my daughter went home ahead of me because my blood pressure can not be contained. I stayed a day longer in the hospital and my baby was taken cared of my sister.

| | | 10. AMANDASROSS (4) | 2 years ago | well i was 18 when i had my first and only child. i was at home alone and started hurting and then i started to time my contractions. so then i called a neighbor and asked him if he would run me to the hospital. well when i got there i was already dialated to 7, so they told me i couldn't have the epidural since i was already at 7. well the pain got worser and worser, but luckily i was in labor for only 4 hours. so it was pretty awesome especially when the birthing was over. i got to enjoy a miracle. i look at having children a god given miracle because it's amazing how we can create these human beings so tiny and that are the most loving gifts we will ever recieve. i hope everything is wonderful for you.
