I hate baby talk!

I have this co-worker that talks baby talk a lot. It sends chills up my spine. She is a grown adult talking to adults what could possibly be cute talking baby talk. Once you hit 3 years old baby talk should be banished forever. It isn't cute. It isn't cute when people talk baby talk to babies either. It isn't even acceptable to do it to a pet. Am I alone on this one?

I sometimes coo a little baby talk to my cats, but not much, only when they are either being really really bad or really really cute.

Well, I don't care for babies and most I don't think are that cute. Good thing there are plenty of people that think otherwise because if there were more like me, we'd have a sudden population crash.

You are not alone, I don't see the cuteness in baby humans. Show me a baby animal of almost any kind and I'll think they are cute and adorable.

I've never understood it myself! Never was much of a one for baby talk! Maybe a little! I tell our ole dog she's a "good ole dog" but I don't actually baby talk to her.. and the cat! I try to talk cat, with the cat.. "are you goin' out already?" or "is it snowin' out there?" all in a good kitty tone of voice.. she answers me of course..

In part of my cat's 'going outside' ritual (besides her "are you coming?" look) is that she reeaches up to the door knob, softly swipes the side of it and meows like she's saying "I just can't quite reach it.." - she's so cute!

Won't you be surprised the day your cat actually turns the knob and goes out without you?

rotflmao I had to laugh at seeing this post Whywiki, I can assume this would be as bad as fingernails across a chalkboard. I do give leave way to talking to babies and animals, but if you are an adult talking to an adult, I am sure at first I would laugh and it would not be long untill I had to ask for you to talk to me as an adult. Yes I would just say it. It is very hard to take someone seriously when they are speaking as such.

It is like nails down a chalkboard! I will even give leeway on pets. Some days I am really close to saying something. I am sure it won't be long...

That sort of behavior causes me to instantly do an eyeroll and have the sudden urge to hurl on the babytalker's lap! It's sooo stupid. The other thing I cannot stand is whining. I know men that whine like little children and I get instantly turned off and want to kick them. Ugh!

I do the eye roll at it too. I can't agree more about whining! When you get the whining and the baby talk together I start thinking homicide type thoughts.

I haven't been around an adult doing this to adults. Why is she doing this! She has problems, I'm sure. I couldn't be around her. Now I do occasionally call my dog a baby name and I do use a different voice when talking to babies, but I use English, not that baby talk language - we do want our babies to learn to talk decently.

I have to admit on occasion I have said cutesy stuff to my cats but never in public!

I am with you on baby talk. its not cute or funny talking that way to babies or even dogs and certainly not from one supposed adult to another adult. Some children actually suffer from having heard baby talk as they incorporate those sounds into their speech pattern and have to actually be taught how to speak correctly. I just wish people would not do that.

I can see how a baby would get screwed up on language when people don't talk to them with proper language while they are soaking info into their sponge like brains.

Good to know that I am not alone and your kids didn't have to suffer through listening to it!

Does she have a baby at home? She could just forget that she isn't at home and talking to her child. I know I catch myself sometimes talking to someone like I was still talking to a child even though I know I'm not, it just happens. But does she always talk that way to everyone or just sometimes, like when she wants something?
