Have You Found Your Little Piece Of Heaven? | | | | Well, it rained last night and again this morning, and although the forecast had changed a little, and we had hazy sunshine today, there were no buses through the village, so Hastings Jack In The Green Fest was out. Perhaps next year!Instead, I decided to go, with my Son's family, to Heaven Farm, which isn't nearly as far, and for which we didn't need to leave so early. So, I was picked up and off we went... it was beautiful there today, and I found my little piece of Heaven for the afternoon. Famous for its' nature trail, magnificent spring display of bluebells and its foxgloves which stand tall above a carpet of lush green in the summer, this unique farm is well documented back to the year 1387. It is said that “time stood still” here and walking around the now one-hundred-and-eighty-year-old farm buildings, you can understand why. You can imagine the Saxon pig-drovers and the Iron Age people, whilst treading the trail of hammer ponds an undulating countryside. Ashdown Forest is a section of the original St. Leonard’s Forest - the great forest of Andereswald - which lay between the North and South Downs and stretched east to west for a hundred miles, inhabited by deer, wolves, wild boar, and, of course, man. St. Leonard’s Forest has seen Saxon pig drovers, iron smelters, Romans, Tudors and smugglers through its years; the area now being known as The Weald of Sussex - no longer a giant forest but a patchwork of woodlands and heath, interspersed with areas of farmland and intersected by a series of streams… a place of much folklore and legend. We took the Nature trail which takes in a woodland park and waterside walk around the farm, with its abundance of beautiful white wood anemones and rich, blue carpet of bluebells in spring or in summer, it’s rich, green glades of foxgloves, attracting the bees. Further along the trail, we encountered an ancient Bloomery, which is thought to have survived since Roman times, the Millennium Water Wheel, an old pack horse bridge, a three-hundred-year old dam, and many badger sets and foxes’ earths bored into the undergrowth. On the final part of the trail, as you come back towards the Farmhouse, you can see a pen with wallabies and their joeys hopping around, or merely lazing in the afternoon sun. Many a sunny afternoon could be whiled away in the cool woodland and beside the water, on a wooden bench. After that, we spent a little time taking in the view across the open countryside of Sussex, before returning to my Son's Kentucky Chicken which I had with salad. We sat in the garden after eating, and chatted awhile, enjoying the evening air. | | My little piece of heaven would be off of the island I live on. It would be at one of the monuments in Washington D.C. They really are peaceful and there's a lot of things to learn from, unlike this island. Besides, there is so much to do in Washington D.C. especially shopping, which puts me at a weird ease. I'm weird, I know. =] And "A Little Piece of Heaven" is a song too. =] | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Is it really a song? Wow... I'm going to have to look that up now! There's nothing weird about enjoying shopping and monuments. If that's what you like, and what gives you your little piece of heaven, then sobeit. Thank you for your contribution my friend, and Brightest Blessings. x | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Oh wow... how wonderful that sounds, my friend. I love to sit under the night sky too, even alone, and feel the power of silence. I love to contemplate the Moon and stars. I even named a star after my little grandson, who passed away, some years ago. Thank you for sharing... you just completed a wonderful day for me. | | My piece of heaven comes where I find it. I crave the water and the beach, but there are so many that are not picture perfect, so I have to close my eyes and feel the sand and the water and put my self where I need to be. I love the sound of birds and bees, so I'll sit on my back porch and pray a hummingbird comes for a chat. I take a walk in the neighborhood, and look for tiny yellow flowers to pick for my Kate, two of the them, because she likes one for each hand.l | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Yes, I find that closing my eyes takes me off to far lands of mystery and mystique. A good way to find your little piece of heaven, my friend. You like to be at one with nature, like me too... we don't have humming birds here, more's the pity, but I can imagine the awe they inspire. As for your little Kate, awwwwwww, how lovely she likes particularly yellow flowers, and one for each hand. Like the energy the bright Sun, yellow brings clarity and awareness, and symbolises wisdom, joy and happiness. A great colour for your daughter to choose. Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. xx | | | | | | | Life Insurance Agencies Find Life Insurance Agents & yellowpages.com | add comment | | | |

| | I love to go to the lakes nearby. We have nothing here with that much known history. I have looked at some historical places about, and one or two hysterical (funny) places. I would say though that a place called Lake Kanopolis, would be the most heavenly place nearby for me. I used to feel that way about my grandparents farm, when they were living. We could walk a little ways away, and wade in a creek and dig in a sandbar. I would see woodland plants, and somewhere, deep inside me, I would know their names, without ever having looked them up to my knowledge. I also find it very heavenly to sit on my own front porch, with all the trees grown up to shield me from the street and sidewalk. I like to watch the various birds that visit, and the squirrels chase each other. Once my husband even picked a baby possum from our cherry tree. | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Firstly, thank you my friend, for a very descriptive and enjoyable contribution. I think we all like to escape into a little dream world of our own every so often, and that becomes our little piece of heaven. Water is especially soothing, and often chosen as a place where one can dream. Awww, how sweet the baby possum must have been! Brightest Blessings, my dear friend, and thank you again. xx | | | | | | | Insurance Services Find Insurance Services Near You. See Actual Customer Reviews! Local.com | add comment | | | |

| | It's so nice to enjoy such kind of scenery. I used to live in a village surrounded by mountains and brooks. I spent my happy childhood there. I love the peace of nature. But now I live in a big city surrounded by buildings and noisy streets. I miss the green color in my memory. But it's almost a dream for me to go back there. That's maybe my little piece of heaven. | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | I'm sad to say I don't have one yet. In the form of a place or a person, or anything really. I suppose I used to have one back when I lived on our farm, it was the bridge that went over our creek, in the spring when the honeysuckle and lilacs bloomed. The trees created a little mini-atmosphere which was so pleasant and cool, and if you sat still enough the birds would sing again (we had red-wing blackbirds, gold finches, along with more common birds like wrens, swallows, and such). It was just so peaceful, and it smelled heavenly to me. I used to go out there and read all the time. | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Oh wow! That sure sounds like heaven to me. I have honeysuckle and lilac in my garden... lots of it, and I love to sit out there with the birds, and read my book. Most of the birds you mention are in my garden too, plus my robin friend, who sits on the fence and sings to me. He's always here... year after year. I love the mock orange blossom in June too... the scent from that is wonderful and fills the whole garden with a sweet perfume. Brightest Blessings, and thank you for your contribution, my friend. You had me daydreaming there, for a moment. x | | | | | | | Get Life Insurance Quotes Save up to 75%. Compare 12 Lowest Life Insurance Quotes Instantly. www.term-life-online.com | add comment | | | |

| | I found a lovely country park near to where I live in Hampshire. It used to be the estate of a big country house which has been demolished. There is an ornamental lake and remains of a terrace with a shell grotto. There are paths leading through the woodlands and across meadows, where you can see deer feeding and buzzards gliding overhead. I am looking forward to spending some quiet days there this summer. | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | Wow... that sounds beautiful, my friend. I can see three country parks in your area and each of them sounds equally pleasant. It's lovely to escape into the countryside once in a while, and be at one with nature, isn't it? I was up one of the country lanes about a week ago, in the village, and spotted a mother deer with three babies crossing the road between a farm and the woods, and we have a badger which visits our garden every night to take bread that my downstairs neighbour leaves on her window ledge. I love all that! Brightest Blessings, and I hope you get to find your little piece of heaven regularly this summer. | | | | paid2write (4119)

| | Wow Darkwing, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful day with us, so expressive - I could see it all in front of me. It isn't a surprise that there were no buses on a bank holiday - it is the day when all public transport stops running - you just have to have a car to go anywhere. Government encourages us to go and visit places but we can't get there, incredible! Such a shame you couldn't get to Hastings..:( I love the old woodlands, it is just such a shame that there are so few of them left and only patches, rather than those wonderful places, miles and miles long. Those carpets of flowers are just so beautiful in the spring time - you can see the spirits and faeries buzzing around the place. I'm not so sure about seeing Kangaroos though! Not really the right sort of place for them, but heh they are mother nature's creatures and if they are happy in the UK with the cold weather then so be it. Such a shame that we have lost some of our origingal species, like the wolf, wild boars etc. Fantastic to see history in that setting, with the fields, streams, flowers and woodland... and even better still, sharing it with your family. Wonderful. My piece of heaven - now that is a good question. I would to say that funnily enough it would be places like this in the UK but as I'm not there I find peace and quiet first thing in the morning. Sometimes we get up around 6am and BF goes snorkling and I walk along the beach. I love to watch the sun come up and play with the clouds, peaking in and out and creating such a wonderful assortment of colours and patterns. If the sea is as flat as a mill pond (as it was the other day) then it is absolutely awe inspiring. And you are alone which I like too. I have added a picture of the sunrise for you to share with me. Thanks for sharing this day and your thoughts with us. | sunrise over the caribbean sea

| | Thank you my dear friend. There were some buses running where there's normally a Sunday service, but there's no Sunday service in the village, so no buses, I'm afraid. Never mind. I've learned that I either have to go to Bath for a couple of nights, or to Hastings, next year, and in the meantime, maybe I can get down to Eastbourne for the Lammas festival. There's lots of places here that have wallabies. Tilgate Park has them in its animal area, Leonardslee Gardens, and Heaven Farm, and that's in a tight area of Sussex. There are also a couple of Llama Parks, and one place, I can't remember where, but fairly closeby, with a whole penned in field full of Wallabies. You're right... I like wolves... not sure about wild boars but they're historic and interesting. But then again, badgers are lovely animals and I adore owls. Thank you for the lovely picture and your description of your little piece of Heaven in the Dominican Republic. | | Sounds like a beautiful place - you seem to have some really nice places to visit by you and I thought I lived in a particularly nice part of the world! My little piece of heaven is in my mind, when I'm feeling content and when the sun is shining like it is today! When everything is good in the world and I've sorted out my problems, that my idea of a piece of heaven! Blessed be! x | | | | | | | Darkwing (7548)

| | You do live in a beautiful place, my friend. I love to visit that part of the country and am on a near-promise from my friend, to visit with him, sometime soon. I've only been onto Dartmoor the once in a car, and not stopped, but there's a feeling about the area, and I would love him to show me around a place he knows well. I want to exploor Dartmoor and maybe even Bodmin Moor someday. I love the seaside and the country places in your neck of the woods, and they are indeed, comparable to mine. I think our little pieces of Heaven are in all our minds my friend, but you get the feeling when you're in some places, that this is a place you could spend an awful lot of time, in contentment and peace. | | That sounds a lovely, relaxing place to be my friend. It sounds similar to our Tilgate Park. I'll have to take you visually around there, sometime, if I haven't already. The grandchildren love going over there because in addition to play areas and a large lake, they have an animal and bird enclosure. The animals are mainly farm and pet animals, with exception to the wallabies, but they love going round there. I'm sure Chey had a brilliant time. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my dear friend. xx | | | | Lakota12 (23195)
