What are you hoping your children will give you for Mother's day / Father's day?  email this discussion to a friend?

As many of the MyLot people know, I have had problems with my daughter (she's my only child--thankfully!!) and so I don't hold out too much hope for anything for mother's day. I would be happy with just a card but I know that won't happen. I think the best gift that my daughter, son in law,and two grand daughters could give me is that they have gotten their lives together and have started working towards becoming the responsible people that they should be. I'm not holding my breath on that wish either, after my son in law was arrested for DUI, child endangerment and wrecking the vehicle that they had purchased a month and a half earlier. Two of the felony charges were dropped and the third was reduced to a misdemeanor, but still it was sooo irresponsible of him to drive like he did. It turned out that he wasn't drunk but still as my daughter put her foot down and told him no more drinking outside of the house, and then she is even limiting the amount of alcohol in the house. (while they were staying with me my son in law and his uncle were getting drunk almost nightly!)But, as I say, I just want them to start heading their lives in a direction that sets a good example for the grand daughters and getting themselves to a point that they are the responsible adults they should be. I would add one more wish, and that is that they learn not to be so selfish and learn to give to others in need rather than working so hard at accumulating so much meaningless "stuff" for themselves.

What is your greatest desire for your children to give you for Mother's or Father's day?

My son is a bit of a problem child also. The best gift I could get would be for him to help me out this weekend cuz we are getting new furniture. I don't expect to get a card or a gift. That is a rare occurence. I will be sad if I don't see him, if I have to I'll probably go see him. He is an only child also. Please meditate on him coming here.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up with the problems that our children are that we forget that other people have problems with their children too. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in the "problem child" boat.

I'm sure that you go through the "Christmas Letter" thing at Christmas time. You get letters from friends with children that are too good to be true. Their kids excel at everything and don't cause problems or have any problems. I would get my nose rubbed in that kind of fact when I was growing up, and finally my parents got the hint that the kids that are written up in Christmas letters aren't the super over achievers that the parents make them out to be. When I took writing courses in college last year I did my own Christmas letters, the instructors still use them for examples as the letters I wrote were absolute riots and the instructors would laugh themselves silly over some of the stuff I came up with.

I really hope your son will come and help you out, and even maybe will remember that it is Mother's day coming up and at least give you a hug and tell you that he does love you. Right now I am trying to sell a junker truck that my son in law bought for $600 (the seller saw him coming!!! LOL) and since the kids moved out I have little contact with them. I need the title to the truck to sell it and they are dragging their feet on finding it in their stuff. I can't really sell the truck without the title, sooo I may have wasted the money on the advertisement. My kids don't even have the gumption to search for an important paper so that they will have money in their pocket. I could go on and on about the kids wanting everything given to them, but it wouldn't do much good. I just get really irked about their way of living.

If it helps any, happy Mother's Day from one mom to another.

Toni

yeah, Thanks. I hope he loves me, it's hard to tell sometimes. He apparently thinks it's a chore to talk or viist. He's only 19 though, hopefully he will grow up some.
That's the only thing i can hope for. he was such a sweet child that's why his behavior is so disconcerting.
