Did you ever use seeds from something besides seed packets and have it work?

I used pop corn from a regular bag of popcorn one time. They came up great! I had lots of popcorn ears. I took a break from regular corn because it had blue mold.
I saw a package of 7 bean soup. I just bought it. I wonder if I plant those beans if they will come up. I also have lentils in my house, I don't know it they will come up or if they're like split peas and have been altered too much to work.
The best thing I've done is dry green pepper seeds. They came up before from just the dried seeds from green peppers I really liked.
So what have been your successes or failures with trying seeds that were not from seed packets?

About four years ago my mother-in-law bought some peaches, she saved three or four pits, and planted them. Believe it or not, within three years they bore peaches, or something that looked like a peach, they never matured but I have never seen anything like it.
My husband noticed it first, I told him it wasn't possible because the plants were only a few years old. But sure enough it had some green fuzzy round things on it the size of a golf ball.
Of course they eventually all fell off. But I think it was peaches.

That's interesting, I guess peaches don't normally grow where you live or aren't usually started from store bought peaches? Up here they would have to survive 3 years with weeks of sub-zero, they would never make it. So we would be extremely surprised. I would think even where they belong 3 years would be quite early. Must be your season isn't long enough, I'm guessing?

My most successful was fresh pepper and watermelon seeds. In fact, I should have planted the red pepper seeds already, it is probably too late now..

Springs have been getting longer in coming and falls too, so who knows, you may or may not have time. I have a container garden for things that I may have to bring in, in the fall. So if you really want it, and the price of food now, give it a shot, GO FOR IT!

I think it was just a generic brand. It was years ago. It was fun and different because you dry the corn before you use it. You have to clearly mark it. You can't grow other corn near it or it won't pop and the other corn will break your teeth. So if you try it be careful. Take care and thanks for thinking that's cool!

I haven't really tried. I've tried peach pits, but they never work. I'd like to have some fruit trees, apples, pears, peaches, though I'm uncertain if they would actually grow or not. For the peaches I had understood you need to cut in to the casing of the pit so that water will get to the part that is supposed to grow, though I'm not how factual that is. I would like plant strawberries this year, however I'm having a hard time finding seeds for them. I wonder if i could just plop a couple of stawberries in to the ground and have them grow?

Dear friend,
I had only pop corn from its seed packet. But those as indicated you I will have try that. Hope dry green pepper seeds could take more time. Anyhow I might have to try it. I do hope there might be other seeds too which could be used well. Hope I would have to experiment most of them.

My mum had a big thing for growing from seed, when we were young she used to grow all of the pips!!the lemon and orange pips, and the avocado stones. They grew and in actual fact made attractive plants, but they never bore any friut. She still has a yearning to plant a twig or a leaf, but she is very green fingered and is quite lucky at this, very often a few months later someting that she has planted will spring out of the ground and start to look lovely.
