Exercise machines at home....... email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 89/100. gabrielle47 (613)   ranked 61 out of 1,413 in health2 months ago

Hi to all friends and myLotters! A lot of home TV shopping networks and shows have promoted in the last years a variety of things including exercise machines and contraption. I remember my cousin years back buying a stomach cruncher but smiling now as she is not using that anymore and she has gotten fat. Whenever I go to some friend's house, I see exercise machines but ask them whether they are using it and most often, the answer is no.
I am also guilty of that as my mom's exercise bike and my ball is just stored at one corner and we are getting fat. Did you ever bought an exercise machine? For what purpose did you buy it? Are you still using it? Thanks and hope we again use it for the reason we bought it.

I bought a treadmill once and used it maybe 3 times I ended up sellingit. My husband bought a weight bench and weight set it is sitting in the back room collecting dust. I go to my local YMCA to workout now.

I love the new treadmills that are programable as far as time, length of walk, type of terrain, type of walking, etc. Plus they have a heart montior built in etc. Great but costly.

Well it seems that working out in a group or with other people is better than doing it on your own at home.

I agree with you with you grandpa bob as if its taking you to miles of walking and getting the chance to vary your work out. I also loved those programmable treadmills but really expensive.

I have a junk old time stationary bike that we have never used other than as a clothes rack next to our dryer. I am looking to buy a treadmill as when I stay overnight at the casinos I use their exercise rooms and love the treadmills. They are a tad costly so a new TV first, then a new camera, then the treadmill hopefully.

Hello gabrielle,

seeing you after along time. Yes i have bought a exercise machine before. It is meant for the stomach and back. But i have hardly used it and it is just lying there. I am thinking of buying a cycle as i want to reduce my thighs and butt:(

myLot reputation of 89/100. gabrielle47 (613)   ranked 61 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

Yeah Pinks. I have been busy and just dropping by myLot once in a while. Also, there were times I was not in the mood to post and I don't know why.

Anyway, I hope your bicycle wont have the same fate as your exercise machine for your stomach. Lollol

I bought and exercise bike in the 1970's and hardly every used it. I learned my lesson from that, I don't buy any more of that stuff, they all claim they do wonders and people who use them all the time do not find that they do any more than just plain dieting.

myLot reputation of 89/100. gabrielle47 (613)   ranked 61 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

Well I guess it takes a lot of commitment and combined with dieting to get the results that the companies are telling in promoting their product. I also a bit learned my lesson. I need to have more commitment in using them to lose weight.

I have a treadmill here in my room and I really like it. I still use it. Although I haven't used it in a while because I've been busy but when I do use it I run for like an hour to an hour and a half. I bought it so that I could lose weight and get myself healthy anf fit. I really like running but there are times when I just really don't have the time and when I am so tired that I can't even get up.

myLot reputation of 94/100. OreoCookie3 (11854)   ranked 3 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

It's good to know you use yours for so long, because most people get bored with them really fast. I like going outside to walk. I like to reel the breeze and sunshine on my face.

myLot reputation of 89/100. gabrielle47 (613)   ranked 61 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

Yeah Oreo is right in saying its good that you are still using your treadmill. I know the feeling of not being able to stand due to tiredness. At least you had a good deal in using your treadmill and get to loose weight.

I dont have a treadmill and I use to go to the gym but like Oreo, I also like breathing the air outside for a walk.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ayumitakashi (1907)   ranked 546 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

Yeah thanks guys. And yeah I would like to go outside and walk. But where I live it's very dangerous to even walk outside. It's gotten even more dangerous in the past few years. Cops are almost outside everday. You see fights between little kids and stuff. So I have to resort to my treadmill and to looking out the window and watch the birds. LOL.

I think most everyone buys an exercise machine for the same purpose.. to tone up, slim down, or firm up.. but the thing is it takes discipline.. and most people fade out after a period of time and then the machine becomes a clothes wrack to throw clothes and boxes on.

myLot reputation of 89/100. gabrielle47 (613)   ranked 61 out of 1,413 in health  2 months ago

yeah I agree with you Oreo. It takes some discipline to use it and be constant with your weight loss or just getting fit. Well from the looks of it most machines end up in a corner to accumulate dusts. Sad to say.

Over the years I have also bought exercise things to use in the home. It starts out being used and then some where down along the way it gets stored. I have no idea why I buy these things when ever the first few I bought are now gathering dust. And I have gained weight. I also have the use of a fitness room right across the street from my house and it doesn't cost a dime to use it. I did make use of it for quite a while and then winter struck and you guessed it. I stopped going over there. Excuse used: It's too cold to get out and go do that. Than I will be all sweaty and I will end up getting sick. A person can come up with a excuse for anything if they try hard enough. I do need to lose some weight but as I have heard the hardest part of a exercise program is starting back again.

OMG, my husband use to be famous for getting every piece of exercise equipment he could from yard sales. I had 2 cardio glides one time, a ski type machine, 3 treadmills, a stationery bike, that tony little machine, I could go on and on. I have sold all of them except 1 treadmill. Its electric, and let me tell you what, it makes a wonderful hanger for clothes. I have it sitting in the basement. I have tried to sell it, but just can't seem to get rid of the thing.
I won't buy anymore, it's a waste of money. If I can't do it on my own, then I 'll turn to Billy Blanks. He'll work it off of me!! hahaha

I actually bought myself a rowing machine just recently, and am still using it on a regular basis as I'm sick of not feeling fit lol. I'm trying to watch what I eat, and eat healthier foods in an attempt to shed a little bit of weight.

I have a friend who bought an Ab Lounge, but she used it maybe 5 times before she gave up because she wasn't seeing results. I told her she had to stick at it for a while before she got consistent results, but she wouldn't listen. Just last week, she told me she was thinking about applying to go onto "The Biggest Loser." I couldn't help but laugh.
