what would you do? Would you disclipline them right then and there...or would you wait till you all got home?

When and if my kids do that I give them the double whamy...they get it at the store...which usually involves a serious talking to..and then when they get home..grounding, tv/nintendo taken away...stuff like that....they say that they hate it, but they still continue to do it. I will never understand why.

i usualy dont hit them unless they have done something like brake something or something to that degree, i usually look at them and start to count if thier not by my side by three they get two weeks with no tv. and if i have to pop them in public they get a month with nothing no tv no playstation, no frineds coming over and no after school ativites, i dont realy like poping my kids in the street thier will always be that one person that will tell you dont hit your kids, boy does that piss me, its not like im killing them..

What I used to do with my kids when they'd act up in public was to bend down to their level, whisper in their ear that if they continued we were going to leave. When you whisper to a loud, or crying child, they almost always stop so that they can listen. Then if they continued, I'd follow up on my promise and immediately leave. Even if I wasn't done shopping yet, or if we only had half of our happy meal finished, we'd leave. If my husband was with us, he'd continue the shopping or whatever, and I and the misbehaving child would return to the car. Once they know that all the fun stops, and you will live up to your promise, they usually don't keep repeating the same behaviours. This tactic worked well for me, and for other mom's that were friends. And when you leave, you don't take their half-finished happy meal (or whatever) with you, you throw it away and just leave with them firmly in hand. I know it's frustrating! Every child will try it, but it works pretty well. Taking away stuff is good too, but not just for the evening or whatever. Once they're older it needs to be a grounding of privileges for a week or whatever...and Mom and Dad not giving in.

I don't see a point in waiting until they get home - i guess depending on the age - they probably wouldn't even remember what it was they did wrong.

I usually tell my daughter off & then try & put her attention on to something that she's ok to be doing.

I can only guess your kids are older but you might just be better off not taking them with you, if the current options aren't working. Some kids will crack it because they want to go & that might encourage them not to misbehave but i guess every kid is different.

It's hard because my daughter is only young & she's pretty good when we go places anyway coz i will take things with us that will keep her amused while we're busy doing whatever it is we're doing!
