Huckabee's SICK NRA Joke |
|
Mike Huckabee captured many hearts during his campaign for the GOP nomination this past year, heck even I had to admit I liked him at times, but today he really crossed the line and then some. http://blogs.abcnews.com/... This is what Huckabee had to say when during his speech a loud bang was heard backstage: "That was Barack Obama. He Just tripped off a chair. He was getting ready to speak. Somebody aimed a gun at him and he…he dove for the floor." Excuse me while I roflmao - NOT!! I have a sense of humor, nobody can say I don't and I'll laugh at myself and even laugh at political jokes aimed at those I support but this is way beyond poor taste. Making a joke about an implied assassination attempt against any candidate or elected official is just plain wrong, even sick! Sorry, Mike, you crossed the line big time this time. What do the rest of you think? Should we just laugh about it - or not - and forget it? I don't think so! Annie

1. danishcanadian (12933) | 3 months ago | That was definitely a sik joke. I can't believe the nerve of some politicians. Though not likely to ever want to be in the same room with Hickabee, were I there, I would have gotten up and left. What a dumb thing to say.

2. Latrivia (707) | 3 months ago | Well, I will admit is was far from funny and borderline tasteless - but I honestly don't feel bothered by it. Then again, I'm not surprised. This was MIKE HUCKABEE at an NRA get together, after all.

4. OreoCookie3 (12354) | 3 months ago | Sure it is poor taste, but if the same thing was said about Bush everyone would wish it was true. Sorry I couldn't help that one Annie. No, it isn't funny at all.. I find it as almost a threat.. hoping someone gets brave enough to make it come true.

jormins (841) | 3 months ago | I have to disagree, then Darth Vader Cheney would become President. Nobody wants that.

|
|
anniepa (5187) | 3 months ago | I wouldn't think it was funny or wish it were true no matter who it was said about, Oreo, but I'm sure there are more who would say that here on myLot about Obama than would say it about Bush. Chris Matthews, when the story was first reported on Hardball, at first seemed to try to avoid talking about it saying that all kinds of "nuts" watch everything on TV. Annie

5. jormins (841) | 3 months ago | As bad as this joke was, and it was bad I saw a clip live on the news. I do forgive Huckabee as I remember he was the only Republican candidate to honor Martin Luther King's birthday by going to King's church. Out of all the Republican Presidential candidates I felt like he was the most sincere and least prejudiced of them all. I don't think he meant to say what he said, he was trying to take something spur of the moment and make it funny. Unfortunately it did come out terribly considering our historical past. I'm pretty sure Huck will apologize though, he's not a bad guy from my take on him.

anniepa (5187) | 3 months ago | You're right, Jormins, Huckabee is the last one of the GOP candidates that I'd ever suspect of being prejudiced or anything like that, I guess that's why it made news. Yes, I'm sure you've heard by now, he did apologize. It's the nutty fringe types we have to worry about when something like that is said. Annie

6. rjscott (1750) | 3 months ago | No, Annie, we don't just laugh about it. We have enough nuts out there just waiting to have their button pressed into action at schools, hospitals, universities and the like. From a would-be leader, a crude "joke" like that only serves to bring the nuts of the world out and give them a sort of license to attempt to do just that sort of thing. Yes, he crossed the line ... he went well over it.

7. MSV1313 (1243) | 3 months ago | Republican here, and that "joke" is not funny and it's definitely not cool. I didn't follow the link, but you gave us the gist of it and I'm really glad Huckabee is no longer running. My Mother-In-Law likes Obama but fears he would be assassinated in office. I am no Obama fan, but jokes about assassination simply aren't cool. Many Americans are still hurt over the JFK assassination.

anniepa (5187) | 3 months ago | You're so right, I was only 11 when JFK was assassinated but I remember it very well, I mostly remember my mom crying literally for days and my dad, who didn't cry often, even shed a few tears. I remember Robert Kennedy's death really well, I was almost 16 by then and my friends and I were really getting into politics and he was our hero, although we weren't old enough to vote. It's an unspoken fear I think many of us have with many of our political leaders and certainly never a laughing matter. Annie

MSV1313 (1243) | 3 months ago | I was ten, I think, when Reagan got shot. I remember the horror I felt. for some reason they brought TV into the classroom so we could watch the President for some reason. We saw it happen on live TV. They sent us home early after that. He survived, but some believe he was never quite the same afterward. And James Brady is still paralyzed. Assassination is no laughing matter. My parents mourned JFK, I grew up looking at a memorial portrait of him in my house.

9. skinnychick (2920) | 3 months ago | I have been out of touch with my politics lately. I didn't have cable or the internet for awhile. How did I miss this though? I don't find anything funny in the death of anyone. It's appalling that a political official would even speak those words, joking or not. Someone needs to slap him down. Even if he made those comments about McCain (who we all know I don't like) he should be very ashamed of himself. Jokes like that just aren't funny.

10. rodney850 (430) | 3 months ago | Of course Barack hasn't said anything that came out wrong this whole primary season! Give me a break! Oh, I'm sorry, maybe I'm just bitter and clinging to my religion and guns!

| |
|
|
anniepa (5187) | 3 months ago | Now, Rodney, you're better than this; you know everyone has their misquotes and gaffes that we can discuss and debate over but this is a bit above and beyond the usual flub no matter who is saying it and who they're saying it about. Joking about someone pointing a gun at someone is not funny during a Presidential campaign, not that it would ever be funny. Annie
