Give it some more time, you had some serious surgery. Take time during the day to take some cat naps, that way you are still getting your rest..The more rest you get, the easier it is for your body to heal.

Sweetie try rubbing a bit of Lavender Oil on your Forehead and also a couple of Drops on your Pillow, but I can not promise it will work as it is the Pain that is waking you up
I hope it gets better soon I really do

I'm sorry I missed this discussion, Terry. I wasn't able to get online hardly at all, the last couple of days. I hate to hear that you're in so much pain.
The worst pain I've ever been in, was after I'd dislocated my left patella, many years ago. I have a problem with both knees, where my patellas can dislocate, without warning. The pain is excruciating, and I was in a cast for six weeks that time. I'm sure it's nowhere near what you're enduring though. Anyway, I'd take my pain medication, which didn't work well at all, as I'd lay awake in pain. The only thing that would soothe things a bit was, I'd put headphones in, and listen to some calming music, until I finally drifted off for a 'little sleep.' Sorry, I have no other suggestions. xxx

take your pain meds just before going to bed then again
if you wake up in pain. that is what I had to do and I
also did not sleep more than four hours at a time.also
I did try the old saw about warm milk, ugh I hate thetaste,
but it did help.also sometimes I take a benadryl with my pain med and that lets me sleep longer as I also have an allergy and benadryl makes me sleepy.

You poor thing! I understand where you are coming from Terry - a few years ago I tore the ligament in my knee and had to have an operation. The after-pain was horrendous, I felt like chopping off my leg to get rid of the pain. I would wake up every couple of hours during the night. I just lived off painkillers, nothing else I tried helped; I just kept telling myself that each night was progress, and that the pain would die away eventually, which it die of course, but it was a nightmare while it lasted.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful on how to manage the pain - except to try and keep a positive mind and keep telling yourself that the pain is not as bad as it was yesterday, and that it wont last forever.
I will keep you in my prayers. Big hugs.

Not sure if it would work in your case but have you tried Advil PM? It's a combo pain reliever and sleep aid in one. I use that whenever my back acts up so I can sleep at night. I can't remember what I took when I had surgery on my back. Don't think I took anything for it, to be honest. I was so relieved of the pain I had b4 surgery that the pain afterwards was nothing. As you heal, you'll find the pain will ease up till it stops completely. Lots of hugs and more prayers sent you way, my friend.

Take your meds and give it time. This too will pass. After my sholder surgery I thought I was never going to get more than 4 hours of sleep, but it finally happened.
After my reduction surgery, I thought I would never have a normal night's sleep again, but it happened.

I wish there was something to help you Terry but unfortunetly it's the pain that's waking you. You really should consult with your doctor on this in hopes he'll give you something else to take at night to help you sleep better. Something that will take care of the pain much longer than the one you're taking now. Another thing too, they say the third day after surgery is the hardest and most painful, after that it's basically an up hill battle. Good luck to you my friend!

Oh hun, it's never good when you don't get enough sleep. I have been using lavender oil and chamomile too. I have a spray pf mixed lavender and chamomile which I spray onto the pillow just before I go to bed, it normally helps. (hugs)

I really understand how you feel, Hon, because I suffer from a lot of pain that often wakes me up at night and I may be facing similar surgery to what you had so I "feel your pain" on more than one level. Now, first let me say I'm not one to like to "pop pills" so I'm also not one to go around recommending various meds for every ailment but there are times when you really need something. My doctor prescribed AmbienCR for me which I've researched a great deal and learned it's safe to take if you're also taking pain medication. I'm not sure what you're taking for pain so I'd certainly check to make sure yours would be safe but I take Vicoden, or the generic form of it, and it's safe with that. I don't take it all the time but when I really need help going to staying asleep I take one. Make sure if you ask your doctor about it to ask for the "CR" - "Controlled Release" - because the regular Ambien has been know to have some silly side effects such as sleep walking, driving or eating but with the controlled release that doesn't happen. I sure hope you get back to feeling well very soon! HUGS!

Hello dear TerryZ. I am so sorry that you cannot not sleep well because of the surgery. But I think that it is normal for one who has had an surgery like the case you have.My father used to have an operation on appendicitis and could not sleep well because of the pain from the operation. As time goes on, he has improved and is always enjoying a good sleep. So it is only a matter of time and you will soon be able to enjoy your sound sleep every night once the pain is gone. Take care, my dear friend.

I know how you feel. I broke my big toe almost three weeks ago and the pain hasn't lessened much at all. I have trouble sleeping at night time because the pain can be so bad it wakes me up, especially if I knock it or anything, on my other foot or the blanket. It still throbs and there is nothing I can do about it. I have been to the doctor and he says I just have to let it heal on it's own and that it could take up to 3 months to heal. I broke it right at the knuckle part of it and then I have the misfortune of banging it the same day as I broke it and made the break even worse. I take advil for the pain but it doesn't really help much as I still have trouble sleeping. I hope now that three months have passed since you posted this discussion that you are feeling better and sleeping better.
