Because of a Security Breach at Hannafords.....

A short time ago Hannafords supermarket had a security breach which led the exposure of some 4.2 million credit cards. At first I thought that there was nothing to worry about. My bank even mailed me a new card and I felt at ease. That was until today when I checked my account online to find 2 charges from a McDonald's that is 1 1/2 hours north of where I live. The charges were on 5/5/08 for $12.61 and 5/12/08 for $4.21. Guess they had small appetites, but it still took a bite out of my wallet. I have to call the bank tomorrow to report this activity.
One of my coworkers experienced the same problem in her account when she noticed charges from McDonald's in the same town. She doesn't travel to that town either. Hopefully the banks can nip this one in the bud.

It looks like someone working in MC Donalds is doing big fraud. Call the number on the card without waiting.
Somehow person working in MC Donalds get customers numbers.
He or she can charge your card and take cash paid by someone else. This way deposit is accurate.
I finished fraud prevention program and this is very common fraud people are doing. It is possible that someone from your bank is giving away the numbers.
Most people don't check their credit card statements as long as charges are small.
Make sure to ask bank for new card. Don't let them mail it to you. Go and pick it up when ready directly from the bank.

they should be able to reimburse you what those peopl/person falsely charged on your account. that seems to be every where no and days a few motnhs ago i got a letter from my insurance carrier stating that an employee who had access to or social security numbers had been terminated and somehow hacked in to the companies database. this is insane you just cant be sfe nowhere..

That really stinks. I would think that they will take care of the problem when you report it. I am surprised that they did not use it for something of more value. Maybe they thought you would not notice small transactions. I hope they catch the people.

That's scary. I am wondering why the bank didn't tell you that you should close out that card immediately or flag it so it couln't be used. That is the way it's usally done. I hope the bank takes care of the issue, but if I were you I would cancel that particular card and get a new one. Under the circumstances the bank should do that for free. Keep watching that statements though. I'm very sorry this happened to you. Creeps that pull stunts like identity theft should be punished to the full extent of the law. I hope all goes well for you in getting this mess straitened out. Blessings.

I'll bet it's a good thing that you both got nailed at the same McD's from the same town because it means that someone has to work there that is using the info, otherwise how would a typical customer at McD's just say "oh, I don't have the card but here's the numbers"? While the charges may be small sometimes my bank account runs down to the penny so I understand when you say it's still having an impact. Good luck with catching them. I think it's a good sign that you have other people getting charges at the same area!

It is very lucky that it was only a small meal, but it is still money that is yours and not someone elses to spend. If it is not your fault, I wonder if you will get it back, if the supermarket is responsible then surely it is down to them to reimburse anyone who has had money taken from them.
Hopefully with you having a new card you will not have anymore problems, but you should keep a close eye on your account for a while.

I am afraid they may be starting small so that they can see if they get away with it. Hope there is some way to get it stopped before a larger problem comes along.
