| | Summer parties are a good time for cookouts. Grilling hamburgers and hotdogs and serving with the picnicky sort of items like coleslaw, baked beans and fresh fruit salad is what comes to my mind. Then there is always the old standby, order takeout pizza. These suggestions are for informal sorts of birthday parties. If you are planning more formal parties you might want to go with catering. That way the choices are almost endless. | | | | | | | Remmie7 (127)

| | Humm, Sounds pretty good, but I can't afford a caterer. I'm more of the do it yourself kind of person. I was looking for some ideas that I ordinarily wouldn't think of or have cooked. Ain't I picky? (laugh) You know what you just did, don't ya? You're making me want to go and start the grill. I want bar-b-que now. I can just taste that FFFFLLLLOOOORRRR! | | | | clrumfelt (1908)

| | A lot of cook books have sections for party foods. If you have already worn out that section in yours maybe you should try a different cook book with some new ideas. I don't do much entertaining myself. With the kids' parties we usually take them out on the town for movies or bowling and dinner, or we order pizza for at home. | | | | clrumfelt (1908)

| | I really like to go to www.Allrecipes.com and find foods I have never had before. Everyone has different tastes so I like a variety. I do a lot of dips and spreads because people seem to love those. Do you have a certain theme in mind or what? If you give me an idea of the kind of party you want to do than maybe I can give you some ideas. I always like do ahead foods so I don't get all wound up trying to get everything done at the last minute. | | | | | | | Remmie7 (127)

| | Ruthep, Its going to be my birthday party, Yehboy! I never thought about a theme, I was only thinking about the MEAT-N-POTATOES (laugh). I need meat, that I know. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of gal. I never thought about going on the internet, now ain't that something? I got a computer with access and didn't think about internet. Girl, stuff me in a barrel and roll me down the hill, (laugh)! Thank You for your input I really do appreciate it, and anything else you can think of. I will toast a toast to you and some other people at my party. Thanks | | | | mommyboo (4304)

| | I would think about some gourmet burgers - some ideas would be using ground sirloin and mixing in dry onion soup mix, crushed garlic, spices, worcestershire sauce, and crumbled cheese of your choice, make into large flat patties, store between waxed paper in a covered container. You can then pop them on the grill and the cheese cooks thru the patties nicely. If you just want slices, stick the slices on the burgers when they are nearly done, and slice and grill up some onions to go on the burgers, and mushrooms if you like those as well. Serve with fresh sliced tomatoes, fresh lettuce, pickles, and I love homemade guac or sliced avocado and soft onion buns. I have an easy baked potato recipe I got from the food network and you can do these in your oven as well. Use large baking potatoes, slice thinly but not all the way down to the bottom, so the potato appears to be sliced but held together. Melt a little butter, drizzle butter over potato, making sure you get it inside the sliced sections (fanning it out a little makes it easy). Season well, salt, pepper, thyme, garlic, etc. I like mine spicy. Slice a few onions thinly into small rings/strips. Top the seasoned buttered potato with a few slices/rings of onion, top with a sprig or two of fresh rosemary. Wrap up the potato in foil but loosely so heat can circulate. Pop on grill for about 45 min or in the oven at 400 for about an hour. These potatoes come out so tender and flavorful, and you end up with carmelized onions too! | | | | | | | 3 Veggies to a Flat Belly Unusual article shows unique veggies that burn abdominal fat TruthAboutAbs.com/fat-burning | add comment | | | |

| | You're right, I forgot my bad! Since I will be doing the cooking myself, I don't expect to spend a arm and a leg. Although that potluck do sound good, but some people will come with presents for me so I could at least feed them, huh. I don't live in a palace and space is not a problem. Hopefully if the whether is nice and not rainy we will have indoors and outdoors to party. I do know that the grill will be fired up. Thanks for your input. | | | | lordwarwizard (10625)

| | Since you are cooking, then it would depend on what you cook... I wouldn't suggest trying out new recipes for the first time since it is your "big day". Just one time, always make sure you have plenty of drinks. They can starve but never let them thirst. | | | | | | | Dads Tacos Catering serving a fifty mile redius from Fontana CA buffet style ty www.dadstacosandburritos.com | add comment | | | |

| | Hmmm, difficult because you haven't told us allot about yourself, your budget or your guests. But here's my ideas .... As it's a summer event a barbeque would go down well. Make lots of salads, jacket potatoes, bread etc and I'm sure you'll find a guest willing to give you a hand at the grill. Or a buffet style do would be easy for you once the party gets going. Just lay it out and leave folk to it. It can be as complicated or as easy as you see fit. But if you only have a few guests, theme it up and have a sit down supper with menu, decor and dress to match. It's summer, so how about a tropical theme? I'm sure your imagination can come up with something! | | | | | | | Remmie7 (127)

| | Another example of the differences between British and American English! Jacket potatoes are potatoes cooked in their jackets, or skins. Baked potatoes I expect you know them as? | | | | | | | Local Catering Services Get Free Quotes from Up to 4 Local Professional Caterers for any Event CateringServices.Respond.com | add comment | | | |

| | I suppose it depends on the type of theme for your party, how large your guest list is going to be, and the type of menu you like! When we do summer parties, we tend to do a cookout or bbq and serve things such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs, steaks, grilled fish, grilled shrimp, grilled veggies, potatoes baked or cooked on the grill, etc. I also make or pick up potato salad, pasta salad, include fresh fruit and raw veggies and dip, chips, salsa and guacamole, etc. If I'm expecting anybody who enjoys cooking and has a 'signature dish' of some sort, sometimes I'll ask them if they can bring it, like my best friend makes a really yummy fresh cucumber salad with tomatoes, italian dressing, and grated parmesan. I also usually will do a quick yet fun dessert, like fruit and angel food cake with a glaze and whipped cream, or a fresh lemon or orange cake with cream cheese icing, served warm with fruit or ice cream. I like to include a variety of drinks, bottled water, regular and diet soda, juice or juice boxes for kids, and beer and wine or mixer ingreds or bottled coolers. Just plan your menu around some of your favorite foods and look for easy recipes that use 5 ingreds or less and take short amounts of time to prep and cook. Decorating is easy, party stores usually carry inexpensive plastic table covers or cloths, if the party is taking place in the afternoon/evening you can use white christmas lights and turn them on as it gets late. Fresh flowers add a little jazz, as do candles. My suggestion would be to do most of your prep the day before so there isn't a lot of work the day of, and definitely use paper or at least disposable place settings, platters, etc to cut down on your cleanup work afterwards. Enjoy and happy birthday! | | | | | | | Remmie7 (127)
