I've noticed a real difference in my gas consumption!

I thought I'd try some techniques of hypermiling--not the dangerous or inconsiderate ones, but coasting whenever I can and taking my foot off the gas when I see a light turn red way up ahead.
It took a lot of self discipline at first but I changed my habits and I've save a LOT of gas this week! If you're not already doing this, you should give it a try.

We are trying to this more. The real problem is the heavy traffic makes this very hard in Southern California. I think the only thing that has made a major difference is driving less. I'm glad its working for you now.

Oh man we can all relate I am sure. Gas is now $3.89 here in spots in Minnesota. Anyhow, I find myself driving a whole lot less. I plan driving trips on weekends to do the various stores we go to all in one trip to save fuel. I also have slowed down a lot and caost a lot to lights and train tracks etc. On the highways I have even drafted semis like a professional NASCAR driver to save fuel. I do not visit friends as much due to this as well.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRNADPA BOB !!~

I rarely have passengers, I live alone and the only time I really see anyone is when my mom visits during Florida's hurricane season. That's another reason I've cut my trips drastically, it's just me so I can plan my trips better without having to take anyone else into account. But it really would make a nicer ride for passengers without all the usual hard accelerating and stopping!

It's sad how everyone is having to change their driving habits because the cost of gas is so high. I don't drive, but my fiance does. We hardly go anywhere because of it. We really do need a long list of things that will help us save more gas... especially for people with vehicles that are really bad on gas mileage. My Fiance's is, although we could try getting it fully inspected and cleaned, that still costs money.
When is the gas ever going to go down.

It will never go down. Why should it? They're making money.
I'm glad that everyone is thinking more about the resources we've been wasting but there are so many people like you that have had their lives seriously affected--not just a matter of making less trips but changing their lifestyles and not enjoying life as much. Lord knows we need to go out and have a good time every once in awhile, but even that's off limits to most of us now that gas is so expensive.
Gas might stabilize but I doubt it'll go down without an armed revolution or something else drastic. Too bad we can't all just quit buying it but it would ruin us while the oil companies would simply wait till we were forced to buy it again.

I think that it will make a bit of an effect if we found people to carpool with us to work, and if we tried to conserve the gas as much as possible. I know that it seems easier said then done, but if people could work together and car pool together it would at least make a little difference.. if not for the world, at least for everyone else.

It would work great for you! Just remember that the faster you go, the more gas you use. Going 55 instead of 65 saves about 10% of your gas! Let off the gas pedal just a bit before you reach the crest of a hill then coast down it. If there's a stop sign or red light coming up, coast to it. You have to stop anyway, so why use gas getting there? The idea is to keep moving, use your brakes as little as possible and try to use the car's momentum instead of the gas pedal.
There's a lot of hypermiling websites that can give you more tips that I can't think of right now. Use some common sense--some hypermilers will take exit ramps at freeway speeds so they don't have to use the gas pedal--don't do things like that, it's not safe!
