This dish DOSA is very popular throughout India. It is the traditional breakfast in many South Indian households and never loses its novelty value.India is very famous for the diversity in taste and the different kinds of preparation each state has.
This food, rich in carbohydrates and proteins, is a typical South Indian food taken as breakfast or dinner. It is first noted in the Sangam Literature of Tamil language dated to the christian era-----

Yes Kala,
We people have an affinity for Dosas and Idlis. Western pancake is usually made of refined flour not like rice and urad dal like our dosa. They are different.
There are lots of varieties of dosas with different flours. Our Maida dosa will be somewhat like pancakes. That's all.
I love Rava Dosa the best that lots of chopped onions sprinkled and fried.
have you sen this video for making dosa.

Hi
Thank you so much for the comment on my photo.Actually this is ART FROM MIZORAM.It does look like Kashmir work. I had posted another one in my response to a discussion 'Crafters'.
That is apparently from Delhi. That was also very beautiful. All this handwork makes me really bow my head in deference to the superior talent, patience and craftsmanship of the person.I tried locating how you came to see the photo and I finally got hold of your profile and am posting this response in some other discussion. I hope you place me .

Kalav
I just love Dosa. Even though I am a bengalee I have a strong craving for Dosas. It's not only nutritious but also very tasty. I love the normal ones, not very crispy but bit soft ones. My mom loves onion dosa, super crispy ones..lol..
The best thing is that it works for all occasions and all meal time.
I am getting hungry now...yum..

Oh! I would love to share this with you. In fact you visit the site I have mentioned and you will see nice pictures and details .This is a very nutritious snack, [not too oily]and is made of Rice and uradh dhal. They are soaked , ground to a paste and allowed to ferment. Then it is made on a pan.--very sumptuous, filling and nutritious.
This is getting popular in many places.People have it with a chutney[ground coconut with chilly], [Onion and mint leaves and chilly ground together]--oh there are a variety of chutneys and also a diluted gravy called sambar[made of dhal]
You must taste it in a good Indian restaurant --see if 'Saravana Bhavan' is available at your place or in some big city when you go there.
