My mom taught both me and my sister how to sew very early. We began making simple doll clothes and then began making things for ourselves. By junior high, we were making most of our own clothes.

I think I was about 10 years old when I learned to sew. I remember the first dress I made. It was a floral print shift that was so popular back then. I sewed all the seams and my Grandma helped me put in the bias seam tape around the armholes and the neck. She put in the zipper. I sewed the hem in by hand. I was really proud of that dress because I made it and I wore the dickens out of it.
I took 3 years of home ec in high school and half the year was sewing and the other half was cooking. I enjoyed the sewing so much more. When I was a senior, I made an outfit or dress a day. I think I did that for about 2 weeks.
Over the years I have made clothing for me and my 2 grown girls. I've made costumes for stage plays at the junior college here and I have made clothing and done alterations for the customers I had at my sewing and alterations shop.
I have several projects that I have bought material for but have not gotten started on them yet. I'm going to have to get my rear in gear and get started on them. :-D

I learned in school. My mom didn't want to teach me because she was worried we would pick up bad habits. I made a lot of scrunchies for myself.

I learned to sew in Home Economics class in school years and years ago. Since my grandmothers both were good at it I assumed that I would be, too, but I was horrible! I made the most hideous outfit in that class and still laugh at the memory when it comes to mind.
