Painting our son's new house, family |
|
Tomorrow we are going to paint the walls of my older son's new house. Well actually my husband will do much of the painting. I am more inclined to paint my hands and feet and my clothes rather than the actual walls. But I will see my granddaughter and hope she is walking by now. She almost was walking on Mother's day and I looked at Facebook where my daughter-in-law has an account, but there were no new pictures yet. The house is not new by any means, but it has been opened up as the original owners have already moved out and my son and daughter-in-law are gradually bringing over the stuff from their quadplex. So have anyone here helped their children when they got a new place or helped them fix their new place up?

1. Polly1 (8473) | 2 years ago | My mom came over and helped me paint when I got my house. Thats just something that moms do. I once helped my daughter wash all the walls when she moved, the walls were all paneled so she didn't have to paint, just scrub. Enjoy visiting with the little one.

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | My mother died when I was fourteen so I missed her and she never was that healthy so we had to do a lot of the work ourselves. It must be nice to have family to help, my family was not that helpful, but most of my husband's family was. Only he married late, and we had to move the stuff into our house ourselves, and when we moved to Winnipeg, all or most of the family was all over Canada and none happened to be in Manitoba, so we still had boxes in the basement.

2. flowerchilde (6827) | 2 years ago | It's exciting to move into a new home.. Also to get to see our grandkids.. our two kids and also our grand daughter live with us! So we've not had the fun of helping them settle into their own place.. I imagine it will happen one of these days though..

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | This will be the first time for me with our son and it would be exciting to see what the place looks like. We only saw it from outside and from the photos on the real estate paper and on the web. It is wonderful that they will be out of that quadruplex of theirs. The house was a bit expensive because Winnipeg is a seller's market, but at least they will have a yard so Katey can play in.

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | I did not do any painting. I tend to get more of it on myself. I spent a lot of time looking over things, putting the paint sheets down, and when my daughter-in=law and Katie came over, we talked a bit and watched Katie trying to get into mischief. She is at the learning to walk stage. We will have to leave the living and kitchen until later as my son and daughter-in-law want to get the wall to match the furniture.

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | We are fixing up our basement. But now that our son is moving to their first house, they decided to change the color in the bedrooms, and I think that they are hoping the next baby is a boy because my husband and my daughter-in-law's stepfather painted the room blue. He is a house contractor and a painter so he knows all about it. and my husband knows a bit about electricity, so he knows that part too. The other bedroom is a lilac color. The living room wall will have to be changed, but my son and daughter-in=law will be buying furniture first and paint the wall to match. I did not do much -more likely to paint myself --but I played with my granddaugher. She has this funny way of getting around almost like a crab.

|
Lakota12 (17080) | 2 years ago | well you will be helping to keep the baby out of the way of the painters and I am sure you like to do that best!

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | When we went down the last time, my daughter-in-law had put locks on all the cupboards and she had one of the pots out in the kitchen floor for the baby to bang on. So I guess she is at that making a lot of noise, but boy my daughter-in-law told me that she was mad when she could not get into the cupboards. She was asleep at the time, and I did not want to disturb going into the baby's room.

suspenseful (17091) | 2 years ago | Us Grandmothers were looking after the baby and seeing that she did not cruise into mischief. We had to keep the door to the hallway closed - they had a sliding door that was handy, and she would go behind the curtains that were in the kitchen and play hide and seek. I did not do that much helping with the painting except helping put down the drop sheet. None of the furniture was over there and my son will be moving it in before the official move in date which will be at the end of this week.

6. newzealtralian (2687) | 1 year ago | Painting? The last time I painted anything, I ended up with more paint on me than the item supposed to be painted. Hence, I've never been asked to paint again! lol.
Hope it all went well, and that the walls got more paint on them than the people doing the painting!

suspenseful (17091) | 1 year ago | That is why I leave the painting to the men. I get paint all over me. I just moved the drop cloth, held the curtain rods, and when they brought Katie over from the old place, us grandmothers looked after her and saw that she did not get into any mischief. Now all that is left is for them to paint the living room. They have already bought the new furniture so it should be done by now. Anyway Tuesday is July First, I do not know what is going on, but I hope we can see them then.

suspenseful (17091) | 1 year ago | My daughter-in-law is allergic to carrots and celery and oregano, parsley and the like. And after the house was painted, we had an open house and a barbeque. I do not like cooking in someone else's kitchen and I am a plain cook, not a fancy one. Then my younger son decided to fix up his house and sell it, because he and his girlfriend are moving into her house - i did not like it that much, I mean I wanted them to be married first - so now tonight we are going to his house and see if it has had any offers on it. They plan to save for a house because hers is just a small one.

chrislotz (6058) | 1 year ago | Wow, I would hate to be allergic to those foods your daughter-in-law is allergic to. I used to have allergies but in the last couple years I have outgrown them, at least that is what my doctor says. I never used to be able to eat very many fruits without breaking out in hives and my throat and gums in my mouth, swell up and bleed. But after all these years I can now eat some of them that I couldn't before without allergy reactions, like apples and oranges. But I still can't eat peaches or cherries.
Now a days people don't get married before living together. In some ways it is good because if they break up they don't have to go through a divorce. My son and his wife, now, lived together for 3 years before they got married. They wanted to make sure it was going to work and since they now want to have kids, they got married first. I am happy about that since the child can now have my son's last name, when they have one. They are working on it and hoping to get pregnant before the year is over.

8. Kaeli72 (975) | 1 year ago | Yup...and I'm the child.
My parents bought a house for me and my children. It was a total fixer-upper but it's in a great neighbourhood. Granted, when I first saw it, I was abit taken back by the holes in the walls, missing light fixtures, no garage door...but I was ok with that. After three months and working on it fulltime, it's a beauty! Every single room in the house has been patched, sanded, painted and stuff. While the house was vacant, some kids came and vandalized it...taking everything but the kitchen sink.
I love my house...but I love the effort everyone in this family is taking to make this house a home.

suspenseful (17091) | 1 year ago | It must look wonderful now. My dad bought a fixer upper and he was not that good at fixing it, health issues- a bad heart, thrombisis, ulcers in his leg and after he did improvements, he bought another house, and finally got a good house in the suburbs, but he died and my stepmother got that one. So it must be wonderful to have parents that will help.

Kaeli72 (975) | 1 year ago | What was really fun, we were going through some old slides from 35 or so years ago from when my parents bought their first house. In those pictures, mom was painting the trims and dad was on a ladder painting the walls. I had taken a picture of him doing the samething 35 years later with my house. It's amazing...they were so young and skinny back then.*lol*
| |
|
|
suspenseful (17091) | 1 year ago | I am far from skinny, and I was normal then, but when I helped to paint the basement and the walls in our house back in British Columbia, I got most of the paint on myself.

9. munhozmib (2643) | 1 year ago | Hello, suspenseful.
Painting the house can be quite pleasant if you enjoy your time spent with your husband. I mean, you can be chatting while painting the house, because it does not require too much concentration. It is an easy task, it only gets harder when you have to do the details, like painting the borders and trying not to paint the roof. I have helped my father painting our house. We worked for a week in here, we painted it inside and outside. It wasn't great to spend time painting the house, except for the fact that I was busy. I mean, sometimes it feels so great to be busy, to have something to do!
Respectfully, Munhozmib.

suspenseful (17091) | 1 year ago | I am not that good at painting. I get most of it on myself, but I am good at looking after my granddaughter and that is what I did. Oh and I helped hold up the curtain rods while my husband unscrewed them from the wall, and straightened out the drop sheet.
