The store I usually shop was out of size 5 diapers, ugh! So, I've decided my son, who is going to be 2 in a month, will now be potty trained. Well, he's not too happy about it. This is his 2nd time on the potty today, and he's done nothing but cry the whole time.
He actually did pee in the potty this morning on our very first try! I clapped and cheered, but I know it will take a few more catches before he gets the concept.
My older 3 were much older when I began potty training them. They were over 3 by the time they were fully potty trained. We started younger, but didn't stay consistant with it.
I do hope I can stay consistant this time, because I still have the baby in diapers. Being down to 1 in diapers would be great!

How old were your kids when you potty trained them? How did you do it? Did you use pull ups, or let them go naked? Tell me your stories.

You have 5 kids???? I am the stay home grampa to just one that we are raising. If I had two or more, I would be a candidate for a rubber room.
I was wondering if my grandson would ever train. He did finally when he was into year three.
He's four now and has been trained for about six months. Thank God for that too!
Now we only have to get past the attitude and we will be really on our way...

I don't know, I think that attitude doesn't go away till mid twenties. That's what I've heard anyways, my oldest is 11. When we get past his attitude I'll let you know.

My daughter is a little over 2 1/2. we are trying. It is a slow process for her. Some kids get it no problem and some are stubborn. we have a stubborn one on our hands. She pees pretty well but she will not poop on the toilet at all!

I had that problem with my twins. Took them a good 6 months to start doing number 2 in the potty. They were older too, we started around 3.
My only advice for the #2 is when she does it, either in the diaper, underwear, or on the floor... pick it up with tissue and place it in the toilet, have her follow you so she sees it's supposed to go in the toilet.
Since my kids were a little older, I actually got to the point where I made them pick up the larger bits themselves to place in the toilet.

My four eldest children wre about 2 1/2- 3 when they were fully potty trained. It really depended on the time of year if it was warm i would let them run around naked at home. I was lucky with my first he was potty trained in a day but then he was that bit older. The others took longer. I did try pull ups but they didn't work for me. It took a couple of weeks for my daughter to suss it out but i rmemeber clearly the day she did. She was so proud of herself that she just could not stop going. In about two hours she went to the potty about ten times and it was full up everytime i just don't know where it all come from.
Now i have the job of potty training my two year old he understands what the potty is for. He also tells me when he is wet or dirty. But prefes to put the potty on his head then sit on it.

That's a bit more than mine is doing. None of my kids ever seemed to mind having wet or dirty diapers. There was one time recently I was really busy with something and never noticed my son's stinky diaper until a rash was starting. He didn't make a fuss or anything, he must have had it on a good half hour or so till that point and didn't care.

Mine is a little younger than yours, but we're trying potty training too just now. I'm enduring many many wet spots on the floor just now, as he prefers making a puddle then grabbing a towel to mop it up than going in the potty!

We're getting the idea though, slowly.

I think the earlier you start, the longer it will take to accomplish.
I know many people start around 18 months or so, and I actually did try it one day when my current toddler was that age. It was probably the day I brought my newborn home from the hospital, I decided I'm not having 2 kids in diapers. Then I decided it would be easier to have 2 kids in diapers than to go through the potty training thing.
The whole reason I waited so long with the others was because I figured they'd understand better if they were older, but my toddler is very smart, so I think he will catch on quick.

I think it depends on the individual child. My eldest for instance was night dry months and months before he was dry in the day.

My youngest definately has the idea. He watches himself go when he's nappyless and quite often clutches at himself and gets the potty when he's not. Unfortunately with layers of clothes and nappy to get through it's hard to manage it in time!

It's summer coming up though, and I reckon we'll get it sorted more then as he can go without his nappy more.

Ugh potty training. I don't miss those days. lol

My middle child was my girl and she potty trained herself. One day at about 2 1/2 she took off her diaper and sat down on the potty. She went right into underwear and only used pullups at night for a while.

The boys were a little more difficult. My oldset absoloutely refused to go on the potty. And if you put pullups or underwear on him he would simply use it like a diaper. By 2 1/2 we could see he was not going to train willingly. We just let him run around naked for a long while each day. He wouldn't go on himself so then he would use the potty. When we needed him to be dressed we used pullups. It took about 3 months to get him so he would go on the potty regularly and wear underwear.

The youngest was a bit easier. He understood the concept because he saw his siblings going. He would go most of the time to the potty but we used pullups for 6 months because he had a lot of accidents.

We are going to start tomorrow. My husband likes to be involved so we work really hard during the weekends when he's home with them together, then during the week I just do it my self. With my 3 year old we sort of introduced the potty chair to him at about a year and half and sat him on it every once in a while so that when the time came he wouldnt be scared of it. We REALLY inforced it after his birthday and was completely out of diapers in like 3 months. I found what worked for us with him was putting him in underwear during the day and nothing else. Take him to the bathroom every 30 minutes or so, and in between when he wet himself make sure the he cleaned up the mess himself (of course always going behind him and recleaning it LOL)and he changed his own underwear.

With our daughter I am hoping that she will be as easy as he was. She is already starting to show signs and asks us to take her potty. And she will sit on the toilet for a while. She will be 2 at the end of July. But we figured since she is already asking to go and telling us when she wants her diapers changed that its about time. LOL

Hope it goes well for you!

You're doing such a good job! I am so proud that you would try to potty train your child at such a young age. It sounds like he has a good head start and a smart mommy and older siblings to learn from. These things always take time. I am sure he will do fine.

Best of luck.
