Memorial Day is hard for some vets

My husband served two tours in Viet Nam and he lost two friends who enlisted with him. He also lost friends he made while over there. When Memorial Day weekend comes around he starts thinking of those guys and all of the others who lost their lives. It makes him sad and does the same thing to some of his current friends who are also vets. Remember to not only honor those who served our country during this special weekend but try to spend some time with a vet if you know one. He may be feeling the same thing.

Please tell your husband Thank you for serving and protecting our country. I have 2 sons (12&13) and everytime i look at them in their beds sleeping peacefully i think of all the men and women ,past and present that have made and are making horrible sacrifices that allowes them that priviledge. We have several family members that are currently in the militery or are vets and my sons and my grandchildren (3&5) have been taught that the men and women in the militery are their guardian angels that have willing made sacrefices for us and our country. Again please tell your husband that we are greatful for all that he and his friends endured for us. My grandsons are still young enough that when they see someone in a militery uniform they get excited because they are seeing one of their guardian angels. My sons are older and although not quite old enough yet to appreciate all that soilders give up they see enough on the news that they pray for them and ask that they get home safely. I can't tell you how greatful i am for the protection the militery gives and how ashamed at the little thanks they get in return.

Thank you for your discussion. I am thankful for the people who serve in the military. It is very distrubing to see people you know get killed and many wars are like an inferno...so I'm always grateful about the people who serve and I give much thanks...thank you all who serve, and thank you for those who have served.

I agree with you callarsel. I was a teenager and young adult during the Viet Nam war and lost some friends over there.

you are so right. we should not forget for a moment
those who did come back and what we owe them. we
should realize that memorial day can be actually
painful for them as they remember friends who
never got to come home and see their families
and do the things we all take forgranted. so pay
some attention to vets at home.

I am sorry for your husband's pain, but oh so grateful for him and soldiers like him who served and continue to serve their country. My brother also served in Vietnam, but he has no memory of it. He also has very few memories of his childhood. It's like he had to block out everything that happened up to the point he came home in order to stay sane. Other than having no memories, he's fine, but many aren't. My heart goes out to all of them.
